Would we benefit from selling Modric this summer?

If i had to lose anyone, from our front 5 it would be Rafa.

I'd bring in Dempsey, Dembele and Moses to keep Luka, Azza and Gareth on their toes.

I'd even consider bringing in Kerim Frei if Dembele costs too much money.

All i will say is...

"We could afford to sell Berbatov too"...

In case you haven't noticed though, we still have signed a permanent replacement.

If we sold Modric for 40/45mil that would probably buy ,Vertonghen, 10/12mil
Leandro, 20 mil
Sigurdsson 12mil
And i know what i would sooner have.

I reckon you all need help if you want to sell Modric and replace him with Gylfi bloody Sigurdsson!

This form has really messed with your brains! Luka is the best CM in the Premiership by a mile!

When he's playing on top of his game. Problem is, he clearly doesn't want to be here and he isn't playing on top of his game.

Ok so if we can sell Modric for £30m then, if we were to go as like for like as possible, does anyone have any suggestions?

Kovacic...linked by ITK, right age to be looking for a move, but young enough to seriously entertain us as a destination, similar to Modric (but, apparently, scores goals - though I believe Modric did, too, in the Croatian league).

Hoping Carroll can come through for us, too...for more reasons than one, that would be immense for us.

OK, based upon what?

He is hardly Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Patrick Vieira or Xabi Alonso, now is he?

Yes, he is good. But something isn't right, be it how the manager is using him, whether he wants to play for us or not, or is he just not that good.

We have to ask these questions of every single player, not a single one is immune.

I don't want to lose Modric, but if we do then M'vila, Vidal, Sahin or Asamoah would be a good start.

Sahin, Moutinho, Banega, Cabaye, Honda, Allen.

Or we could just replace him with another defensive player allowing VDV more creativity.

Upgrade on Sandro or spend on other areas of the squad.

Can guarantee that he'd play better against us than he would for us.

Of course, it seems his performance on the pitch is dictated by the pay he is getting. He'd be the worlds best player for City, sitting on their bench collecting £200K p/w.

One thing I don't like about Modric is his complete and utter lack of influence on the rest of the team, mentally vocally whatever. He looks like a ten year old boy, and he gives about as much as a ten year old boy would in terms of standing up when the chips are down, gee'ing up the rest of the team, producing performances in tight and big situations etc. If things aren't in our favour, he gives us nothing, and given that he is meant to be one of our best players, one of our biggest stars, and one of the very best in his position, then that isn't really good enough.

He is one of the very best in the world, in the very specialist position he plays, but for 25m to 30m I'd sell him to any foreign club that offered the money.

Not sure Sigurdsson is the answer though. Form is temporary and class has yet to be proven, imo.

We either buy young like Kovacic, and re jig things for just now ie VDV with better screening behind him OR

We go for the likes of those already mentioned. Maybe Gago who has proved his fitness this year and who Roma haven't actually secured a permanent deal for yet.

Besides, he's more of a CF than a true midfielder, and if anything I see him as more of a VDV-type of player. He couldn't replace Modric because they are different kinds of players. I can't really think of a player that could replace an in-form Modric, but I'm fairly certain it isn't Sigurdsson.

.. Just to clarify, I would obviously much rather have VDV than Sigurdsson too. :)

Based upon the fact that when played centrally, whether it be in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 he rips the arse of every team he's up against. Whether it's United, City, Inter Milan, Barnsley, anyone.

He is not a left sided midfielder (Everton away, United home to name but a few) and he's not a holding midfielder (Norwich home) when we're chasing a game.

Tell me a game and time when he has been played centrally, and he has been shit, and i mean real shit. And you can warrant Sigurdsson over him!? DROP ME THE F*** OUT.

Parker is our Keane/Vieira, Luka is the orchestrator. Let the man have the full run of the midfield and he tears teams to shit. It's like saying Bale's heart isn't in it and he cant be bothered when he's being played on the right wing.

Stick Jenas back in that midfield, and you'll be crawling on your hands and knees to Stamford Bridge or wherever he ends up going and carrying him back on all fours.

Half of you don't understand just how good you've got it. Makes me sick.

His quality is certainly being underrated right now (though with some reason in fairness). No way would I let him go for less than £40m. That is the absolute bare minimum as far as I'm concerned. £50m is what we should be looking at, and I suspect Levy will be. Shouldn't allow ourselves to be bullied into accepting a lesser price based on Luka barely breaking a sweat in the second half of the season.
