For me personally, Rafa VDV edges out Modric. Modric had ability I had never seen at Spurs or in the PL but he loses points for wanting a Chelsea move and allegedly forcing a move away.

Rafa took us to another level and you always felt like we would win the a game where he was in the team. His signing was possibly my favourite as well given that we allegedly outwitted LFC to the transfer.
Rafa just got it. He instinctively knew what it was to be Spurs. The lad loves us and he knows he should have never left.

Hoddle for me, I loved Ardiles, Galvin, Roberts etc but I absolutely worshipped Hoddle like a God when i was a kid.
He was a genuine artist, when he kicked the ball it was exactly like a painter adding a brush stroke or a sculptor chipping away a fragment of stone nothing more or less than was absolutely necessary.

He played during a time of terrible pitches and tackles were still on the industrial side, playing today with the added medical care, diet and fitness and player coddling its just not possible to imagine how good he would be. Multiply De Bruyne by a factor of whatever the f*ck you want, double it and you might be close.

In fact triple it because The Boss always had his shirt hanging out and I give any player extra points for that.

Will never forget an FA Cup away game with Wimbledon back when they were a real handful, spent the first half with the wind behind us desperate to get a goal because we knew full well the second half would be ball after ball pumped into our box with the wind behind them but went in 0-0, second half under the cosh and up steps Hoddle with a freekick...

I fully expect to never ever see another player like him at Spurs for as long as I live.

EDIT: Didn't realise the thread was so old, doubtless I have already been in and said a previous prayer to Hoddle, sorry about that.

You just don't get footballers like him anymore. Cruyff, Hoddle, Gullit... these were the guys in the 80s who played football the way I think football should be.

Based on players that I've literally seen play live in a Spurs shirt and like others there have been so many to name, for me it's got to be Hoddle and Gazza.

Additionally, it made my night last night when my better half revealed outside the ground that she got me advance birthday surprise tickets for the evening with Gazza and Sheringham.

I warmly thanked Gazza for some of the greatest football memories that I'd witnessed in person and probably ever will when shaking his hand when it was my turn for the photo. I was fortunate enough to spend many an afternoon behind the goal in the Paxton Road stand during the warm ups before the games and the connection he had with the crowd was something I've never seen before and probably never will again.

I was then fortunate enough to chuck my job in just before Italia 90 and me an my girlfriend went around Europe backpacking and inter-railing for 6 months on the condition that we bought tickets for all the England games at the World Cup. I was at all the group and knockout games, including that famous night in Turin for the Semis and it will live with me forever, and when Gazza got booked and the tears flowed, it wasn't just him crying, many in the stands were including me both for him and with him as we knew the significance of it. Gazza had a supreme talent, and alongside that he had charisma and passion and an ability that transferred directly to the crowd, in much the same way as Freddie Mercury did at Live Aid, he always made you feel like he was giving you every last drop for every single fan of the team he played for, man woman and child and he did it in a way that also made you feel like he was also one of us on the terraces at the same time . I've seen some great Spurs players in my time but none them match him for having all of those three combined attributes of rockstar and supreme footballing talents and down to earth one of us who really cares qualities all rolled into one.

I was also fortunate to go to every game on the 91 Cup run except Blackpool away in the 3rd round, and witnessed at first hand how he literally dragged us to that final when we were down and out many times, and witnessing that free kick that near sent the roof off with the reaction of us as fans as it flew past David Seamon up the other end is one that will also stay with me forever.

Apologies for making it long and rambling but I couldn't help myself.

Hoddle I saw a couple of times (mid-80's), but I did not see any really standout magic from him in those specific games, but he was my favourite player as a kid by miles.

I never saw Gazza play for us live - one of my big regrets - but in a period when I was playing myself so wasn't going to games.

Ginola in the flesh was a beast - I did not appreciate how big and quick he was, yet so skilful, when watching on telly.

Berbatov was a joy to watch live, such incredible technique.

But during the period I attended games the most (1997 - 2010) I'd have to say Ledley was my favourite (it was a lean period for entertainment though).

It will be hard to look past Kane, especially if he stays with us to break Greaves' record. Home grown, top, top player, just such great technique and finishing.

Overall, Hoddle, King and Kane - three home grown players who were/are world class.
