Further to the Livermore or Spend thread, I wanted a better poll to really see what Spurs fans want.

I really think it would be best to just bring into Holtby early and hold on to the rest we've got. Incidentally it's the most cost effective way of changing the squad, so may be what we actually do!

A midfield three of Dembele/Hotlby/Mvilla could be very good. With Parker/Siggi/Dempsey being rotated in when required.

Do not buy a replacement for Sandro, move Vertonghen to DM, and press on!!

Buying another player to play in Sandro's position only makes problems for next season when he returns. Just rotate Verts and Parker at DM.

As much as I'd love to see Sneijder sign for us, Moutinho is my first choice. If he comes, Holtby can wait 'til summer, and if not, we should sign Holtby immediately.

Vertonghen is a decent enough backup for Parker, but I wouldn't mind us signing Sissoko or M'Vila nonetheless. Those are good players, and we need a long term replacement for Scotty.

Sell no one, buy no one. Siggy, Dempsey haven't been given an extended run in that position Spurs supposedly need to upgrade with. Holtby can't hurt but what's the point if AVB hasn't changed and won't change from his 4-4-2 with Ade/Defoe up front all season? So Spurs aren't winning.. need new players. Spurs in 4th, lost 1 game in 15 or something.. need new players too.

Be warned that if Holtby is brought in he won't get minutes anyway. But if a big signing is brought in, obviously the "new sexy signing" will be shoved in there and things moved around. Which may bring radical change, and change isn't always a good thing.

If Defoe and Adebayor haven't even been second guessed while they've been misfiring the last two months, all of a sudden they'll both get moved out if there are new signings? If so, weak management by AVB.

Well, since Adebayor is away at the ACN it's pretty unlikely that we'll line up in a 4-4-2 the coming matches. To me it would make more sense to play 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 now and that may give Dempsey and/or Sigurdsson an extended run of matches. Having said that, getting Holtby in now makes sense to me.

Holtby looks like a very good player, and from what I've read he's probably also a bit more competent at playing further down the field as opposed to Sigurdsson and to some degree Dempsey. I'd rather start with Holtby than Huddlestone or Livermore. Actually, the more I see of Holtby the more pleased I am that we managed to get him.

Perfect midfield squad changes in January(however extremely unlikely) for me would be;

Livermore, Hudd and Jenas out

1 of M'Vila/Holtby in plus Willian.

Much more balance and quality pushing for a start. Improves squad depth quality and provides another player to craft up some magic when needed

Verts said the reason he picked us over te arse is because they wanted him to play in midfield. I don't think he'd happy there

1st XI
Backup

------------Holtby-----------
---------Sigurdsson---------
Dembele-------------M'Vila
Sissoko--------------Parker

Then move on Parker in the Summer, with Sandro coming back into the 1st XI.

But to be honest, I'd be happy not to sign any midfielder apart from Holtby in January, as long as we sign a bloody striker!

I think Moutinho is the better option, over M'Vila. Players with massive egos are the ones who come in and disrupt the squad and I reckon M'Vila's a bit too full of himself for us, even if he is a good player. Parker can cover that role for now and if we get desperate, we can play Dembele in that role or ask Verts to cover until Parker gets back.
BUT honestly, I'd quite like to play with Dembele and Moutinho, then bring in parker and play him behind the other two, only for the harder games, so I'd rather play like this:

Bale----------------Defoe-------------Lennon
Dempsey / Holtby
Dembele -------Moutinho
or when Bale goes:

Holtby ------ Damiao / Benzema-------Willian
Dembele - Moutinho
Sandro / Parker
To use the Man Utd midfield as an example, which is Cleverly and Carrick - I'm confident Dembele and Moutinho would be better than those two. It would leave us with the more attacking option of playing Dempsey or Holtby in front to link up play and play the forwards in.
The only question will be - how do we upgrade Lennon AND Defoe? Willian would be unbelievable and as Defoe is a poacher, I think he would thrive off Bale, Holtby or Dempsey and Willian's runs and through balls. The reality is though, I reckon Holtby has been brought in as cover for Bale, as he is left footed and can play as a wing forward.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Sandro, but sometimes I think we are too concerned about defence when in fact possession would give us better control of the game (Dembele and a Moutinho type), so Sandro would be great to have back later and if Bale does go, we can try to bring in a Willian to replace Lennon. Sandro can then sit behind Dembele and Moutinho.
We need to remember we could 'soon' have Verts and Kaboul behind the middle two, so we would on paper be as good as Utd (barring RVP of course).. so we don't need to overly protect the CBs like we seem to be doing at the moment and in the summer we could become the best team in the PL if we use the Bale money wisely... Sell Huddlestone (4.5-6m)
Trigger Diame's Release clause (Rumored 3.5m)
Bring Holtby in early (1.6m)

Pretty much come out even, leaving room for a last-ditch effort for a Striker/Winger.

--------------------- Diame ----------------------
--------- Dembele --------- Holtby -------------

Change Diame to M'Vila and I agree. Moutinho would be first choice but it aint gonna happen

If Mouts doesn't happen, I could see this working - just don't want M'Vila

I'm not as high on M'Vila as others. And it's not for the sole reason of his off-the-field stuff.

Diame's PL proven, at Wigan played in a role similar to Dembele and excelled, and at West Ham he's been very good in defense and in distributing.

And yeah, Moutinho won't be happening.

I'd also like to see us make a push for Obiang, but I think that one would make more sense in the Summer. Obiang is a fantastic talent.

Our MF om 1 Feb will be:

Bale Dempsey Lennon
Dembele Parker
With: Livermore, Huddlestone, Carroll and Townsend making up the MF on the bench.
Yes, I am ever the eternal optimist.

Can't help but feel that's the way it'll go down.

I doubt we'll bring in more than 1 player. M'Vila would be nice but as the OP said, Holtby is the smart move to bolster our numbers.
