Gomes: While I loved Robinson and for two years he was great, when I watch back old clips of his first two years the mistakes had already begun. Our defence was better on better form so his deficiencies were not exposed, but we should have seen the signs. I loved Robinson but Gomes for me is a better goalkeeper in almost every aspect of his game.

Corluka: I can't think of having ever seen a top class right back at Spurs before we signed Corluka. Carr, Stalteri, Hutton, all have been good in spurts, but this guy is good or great most of the time and accomplished both defensively and going forward.

King: Hands down the best defender anywhere of the past ten years, when fit.

Judas: Pains me to include him, but he really was a superb centre half when at Spurs. The single best tackler I have ever seen, great in the air, fast, strong as an ox and not bad on the ball either. If only he'd stuck around to play with King, it would have been poetic in it's beauty.

Taricco: I think Ekotto is probably the better left back, an d footballer, but Taricco was a fighter, you could always rely on him. He was not without skill, but the way he relieved us when under pressure, the way he never gave up, and a simply possessed performance in the 5-1 win v Chelsea, I have nothing but wonderful things to say. On top of it all, he went to West Ham, got injured straight away and didn't accept a penny, tearing his contract up. Pure class.

Palacios: No two ways about it, before Palacios I had never seen a true fighter in the Spurs midfield. No soft centre with this man around, his attitude, committment, and determination won us over in his first performances for us. Even off form he is integral to our side and it is impossible not to love this player.

Carrick: A truly class player who we should have tried harder to keep. When he arrived he stayed in his shell, happy to keep us in possession but never really pushing on beyond being just a good anchor man. Then in his second season he seemed to grab himself by the scruff of the mullett and turn on the verve. First touch, positioning, beautiful passing long and short and some great dribbling meant that this man always looked like he had all the time in the world.

Modric: A truly wonderful little player, always fighting for the right to play, and then playing with some applomb. Good dribbler, good passer, always pushing forward, determined and skillful in equal measure, he really does make us tick when he plays.

Lennon: This is his 5th season, and apart from his 3rd season at the club he's always been brilliant, and has always continued improving. He has the beating of any fullback around when he wants, he has become a good crosser of the ball and he has added goals to his game. He lifts the crowd and excites us, a wonderful player and only 800k he cost!

Ginola; As if I was going to leave him out. The best, bar none, player I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing in a Spurs shirt. A gladiatorial presence, lacking in nothing, this wonderful entertainer carried us through our darkest times and played the game the only way it should be played, beautifully.

Berbatov: A truly world class player, strong and skillful, good on the ground and in the air, wonderful touch and dribbling, all the technique in the world. For a while I considered him the best centre forward in Europe, and it is a shame that Ferguson seems unable to use him properly, but regardless of how it ended I will always remember Berbatov as a genius and a player who I went to White Hart Lane to watch.

Gomes
Corluka Campbell King Taricco
Palacios Carrick
Lennon Modric Ginola
Berbatov

Subs
Robinson: Always be Englands number 1 to me.
Woodgate: Won us a league cup final in one of his first games.
Ekotto: A superb full back who is only getting better.
Davids: A huge boost to us getting near glory once more.
Kranjcar: On this form he may well make the first team soon.
Keane: 91 League goals for us, 120 in all competitions.
Defoe: Finally realising his potential, you always expect him to score.
I have to agree with you on this for the reasons you have given. I also like those that you have put on the Subs bench.

lee was known at psv for his attacking not his defending. He was weak, if we had good full backs the year we finished 5th wed of finished 4th. He got bullied alot and was so one footed it was horrible.
I thought our biggest problem in that season was conceding from set pieces. I dont think YP Lee can be blamed for that. He was only 5'9.

I think you'll find that the honest people in this thread, regardless of his act of betrayal and how much we hate him and would never have him back etc etc etc, accept that Campbell was a superb centre back and easily one of the top two we've had in the past decade.
You could go further and say in several decades. Ledders being the other, fact

Here's my worst X1 from last decade

1. Keller
2. Stalteri
3. Atouba
4. Doherty
5. Richards
6. Freund
7. Etherington
8. Brown
9. Postiga
10. Rasiak
11. Ghaly

I would replace Freund with Steed Malbranque :) and would say it's a bit harsh on Keller who didn't do a lot wrong

Yep. I'm completely honest about it. Campbell was a brilliant centre back for us, one of the best. But I hate him and I'm not picking him. Same goes for the incredible sulk.

Best:

Gomes
Tarricco
King
Woodgate
Carr
Lennon
Ginola
Carrick
Modric
Berbatov
Keane

Standard really.

Worst:

Doherty
Bunjevcevic
Jackson
Acimovic
Zokora
Brown
Rasiak
Zamora

To be fair that team isn't actually that shit really. Its a bit better than I would've imagine a worst 11 to be. To be fair since 2004 our squad and first 11 has been pretty strong. A few of them weren't really given that much of a chance either and Zokora is maybe a bit harsh but he's definitely the most frustrating midfielder I've seen play for us. I've also only had my season ticket since 2002 aswell so some of the Graham, early-Hoddle players I haven't included because I can't assess them fairly.

Yes but that half a season still counts, and it would be terribly unfair on the great man to victimize him by leaving him out just because Gearge Graham was a w****r.

Not gonna list my best 11 of the decade as would be very similar to most posted.

But couple of interesting things stand out.....

Like how many went for Anderton/Teddy/Ginola when they were at thier peak during the 90's......

That some Spurs fans seem to have forgiven Campbell and argue he should be included (which he shouldn't)

That some Spurs fans seem to have forgiven Berbatov and argue he should be included (which he should)

How many current players make most peoples sides (surely a great sign)

And finally the large majority who chose Gomes as thier Keeper, proving those of us who supported him throughout his difficult early days (when so many wrote him off particularly on SC) were right. Has won over all those critics through a combination of his performances between the sticks and his slightly crazy personality. Has the potential to go on and be to todays generation of Spurs fans, what Bill Brown & Pat Jennings were to past generations.

I hate Campbell as passionately as ever, I'd spit in his face given the opportunity, hopefully while I had some awful disease which was carried in saliva, but I'm not daft enough to think we've had 2 better centre backs than him.

Fair enough, your hatred of Scumball is no longer in doubt..........

And your right it'd be daft to offer up 2 better CB's in our recent past..

But much like the fantasy of shaggin' your wifes sister, or the time you deliberately walked in on her in the shower, or the time you jerked off in her worn thong the night she stayed over (well you get the gist) it's one of those things which should remain unspoken:wink:

He was a million times better for le arse than for us, he left us far too early. Woodgate has put in some ridiculously good appearances for us. The day we beat chelsea at wembley was one of the best days of my life, so I would put him and King at CB nearly on that day alone! This is the best team we've had in my memory, so many of them get in to my team.

I'm basing mine on performances over a significant period of time during this decade, rather that what they achieved in the previous decade (Ginola, Sheringham) and what they might achieve in future decades (Modric, Gomes, Palacios - all been brilliant, but for a year at most).

Robinson

Carr King Dawson BAE

Lennon Carrick Jenas Steed

Keane Berbatov

Reluctant to put in Steed and Jenas, but they have filled their respective positions for at least a few seasons and generally performed well. BAE has been excellent for the past 1 and a half seasons so did not mind putting him in. I could not put Modric in as he has only excelled in the second half of last season and the first 3.5 games of this season - not long enough to justify a place by my criteria.

I realise that this is by no means our best team in terms of ability. If I was doing a team based on ability rather than performances for Spurs over a significant period of time it would be:

Gomes

Carr King Woodgate BAE

Lennon Carrick Palacios Modric

Keane Berbatov

I think this is worthy of a poll...can someone set one up?

Tough decisions Palacios over Davids. Corluka over Carr and leaving out Carrick and Jenas.
