Youth player(s) you had high hopes for?

Just to get our minds off yesterday I thought I'd start a fun little thread. So you are some youth players over the years who really had you excited and expected them to become big first team players but just never did?

My own are Steven Caulker who I had put all my hope into as the next King and was convinced he'd be Spurs captain one day.

Another is Soulymane Coulibaly(spelling?) If anyone remembers him. I remember him being a star in one of the underage world cups scoring for fun and couldn't believe we attracted such a huge talent. The rest is history...

The list could be endless. John Bostock was supposed to the one. I saw him play for Hull on loan and he scored a screamer!

Loads. Andy Turner, Jamie Clapham, Gerard McMahon and Scott Houghton spring to mind. More recently, apart from the obvious ones, Yaser Kasim, Alex Pritchard, Steven Caulker and Ismail Azzaoui.

My #1 for that is Harry Winks for sure. I thought he would be twice the player by now. And yes, also Caulker, but knowing more of his full story now no wonder that didn't work out. Wasn't for lack of ability though.

Pritchard a big one for me I was convinced he was gonna be the next Eriksen.

Also Edwards of course.

Ally Dick, lovely little winger in the early 80's but too lightweight.
David Leworthy, another one from the early 80's. He was a goal machine at youth level and in the reserves, but never made the step up.

Nice article covering his career and injury woes. Massive talent for the period.

Onamah, Pritchard and Edwards all looked pretty special to me. Not too late for the first two to come good tbf, just a shame it won’t be at Spurs.

Great player for Dover Athletic, arguably their best ever

Another obvious one is Taarabt, had all the skill in the world but just never put it to good use.

Anybody remember a very young lad who looked & played like a young Maradona? Wasn’t Marcus Edwards but looked a lot like him.
He had a YouTube video which highlighted his skills, sure I saw it on here
