Wilfried Zaha and Japhet Tanganga were involved in a fiery encounter after Tanganga brought Zaha down with both arms across the face that sparked a big melee.

Tanganga will learn to walk away in future, he naively held Zaha trying to calm him down even when being punched and that doesn't work.
Always walk away.
Another lesson to learn, never again kick the ball out to let an opposition player get treatment.

It's unfortunate for him that he got a red card but he will learn from it. As you say this is the cycle of development we need to be patient with for our young players.

I keep thinking that Tanganga has everything to develop into our Sergio Ramos who also made his debut for Real as a RB before moving to CB.

Japhet is a quality player. Proper powerhouse too. Storm in tea cup, as you guys say will walk away next time.

Needed someone to have a word with him as he was still carrying it on after the handbags. Hugo or kane should have (I didn't see them do it) tried to make him focus. You could see he'd got a case of the red mist. Zaha knew he'd got to him and carried on chatting to wind him up. (Although Zaha is a firey character anyway).

All part of learning!

Still, what a horrendous day at the office that was. For all of them.

I saw a young man showing some fight and standing up for his team mate yesterday… It was unfortunate that the next tackle earned him a second yellow and a sending off.
I’m sure he will learn from this and has a big future at Spurs. I thought he (along with) Rodon, Emerson & Reggie were coping well with the Palace attack before going down to 10 men.

Very true, really feel we still don't have any real leaders, Lloris and Kane are great players but not leaders i'm suprised PEH didn't calm him down as his the closest we have to a leader. Maybe he didn't want to step on Lloris and Kanes toes.
I really do feel if we had a player like Roy Keane,Mabbut ,Roberts or dare i say Viera we wouldn't of capitulated as bad.

Its not his job to ref the game. Do they really need to kick the ball out of play every time a footballer gets tackled and stays on the floor. It wasn't serious and tanganga decision cost us.

Handbags.

Japhet did exactly the right thing and Wilf responded in exactly the way you’d expect him to!

I think Dier would have stepped in, had he been on the pitch.
Off topic, but I was at a dinner for the 1981 FA cup winning team on Friday and when asked who was the best Spurs' captain, Graham Roberts said Perryman, then himself.

Damned if you do or dont then? Most teams and players will put the ball out, so most decent players will have this in mind in that situation. Some indecent scumbags will think 'f*k it, I'm carrying on. Damned by the other team if you don't, and damned by some of your fans if you do. Be decent and respected by the opposition when someone is obviously hurt I say.

Yes good point mate Dier has leadership qualities along with hojbjerg.

Zaha should have been sent off & given a few game ban, tbh. Took a swing & had his hands on Tanganga’s throat. Not to say Tanganga should have been sent off over that incident too because he should have. But Zaha was able to calm down. Tanganga was not & proceeded to right the refs wrong getting himself sent off like a minute later on a rash challenge. Really could have been his 2nd sending off the year too. He needs to calm down, stop the rash challenges & grow more mature.

Zaha always tries to get players sent off. Japhet isn’t the first and won’t be the last.

Just needs to learn how to play when on a yellow and not dive in, he'll learn and happy to see that most responses have a similar response to the situation rather than laying into him.

All teams should leave it for the ref to officiate - i.e. not kick the ball out when an opponent is injured, but instead play on unless the ref blows. Getting angry with your opponent for the ref not blowing when a player was down...that's misdirected anger.

The foul was worth a second yellow card, so the ruckus that followed only delayed the ref showing the red card rather than causing it.
