I think Cole has gone backwards in recent times - not sure whether Baines is better than him, it's all subjective, innit?

Baines does hit a great free kick, maybe that sways it now?

Baines over Cole?

Interesting...

Only opinion but I would say Baines is best lb in premiership

Cole and particularly Evra are not the players they were IMHO but both still v good and BAE is gifted but makes too many gaffes

Baines is rock solid, would have him at Spurs just not at the stupid 20m figures quoted etc

Baines is not rock solid, I remember he was awful at WHL this season. He's not as good as people think he is.

I would like to see Fryers and Naughton as backup for Ekotto and Walker next season.

Got a feeling Adam Smith will leap ahead of Naughton in the pecking order soon.

Was talking to a Leeds fan a week or so ago who reckoned Smith looked like he could be better than Walker (stronger defensively and better delivery).

Have you seen Fryers play?

What if he's complete shite?

Fryers made his senior début for Manchester United in the League Cup on 20 September 2011, starting alongside Michael Carrick in central defence in United's third round 3–0 victory over rivals Leeds United.[4] He then played in their 3–0 fourth round win against Aldershot Town on 25 October, appearing as a left back.[5] On 2 November, he was a late substitute for Jonny Evans during a 2–0 win against Oțelul Galați in a Champions League group stage match at Old Trafford. He made his Premier League début in a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, coming on as a substitute for Patrice Evra in the 68th minute; the game finished 4–1.[6] On 26 December 2011, Fryers continued to press for more inclusions as a 46th minute substitute for Jonny Evans in a league match against Wigan Athletic.

So 2 League cup starts (and one from bench) plus 2 sub appearances inPremiership ansd a sub appearance in Champions League - but nothing in 2012 apparantly after refusing contract offer from Man U.

Someone on SC ITK page last night said they saw his debut against Leeds and he looked alright. Doubt if he's complete shit but not sure he would necessarily start off at Spurs as no 1 back up for BAE - but if he played in Europa League games and did well that view might change before the ACN starts

Bit of a trend of United's top youth wanting to leave appearing.

Think Smith looks good - can deliver excellent crosses and speed to burn. Commentators were drooling over his crosses in the televised MK Dons v QPR games. However Naughton is 3 years older and had a good season on loan at Premiership Norwich following 2 seasons of being voted RB in Championship team of the season. Think Smith could get ahead of Naughton but it will take a season for Smith to play enough matches to do that at best.

At the moment I would describe Walker as phenomenal whereas Smith is just 'very good' - lets review that is a season's time but it would require Smith to have a mindblowingly good season or two to overtake Walker. Great if he can do it (and great for Spurs if he does) but........:cautious::unsure:

I've seen him play - I was at Old Trafford last season when he made his PL debut against Wolves. Came on for Patrice Evra if memory serves.

There seemed to be a positive buzz around the Stretford End about this up-and-coming kid in defense who'd already made a couple of minor appearances for them, very well spoken of by the United fans, and looked pretty quick and sharp from where I was sitting too.

By no means a complete LB yet, but certainly very promising. I think coming to us would be a great move for him as he's far more likely to break through at Spurs than United. When he hits the big time they'll no doubt buy him back for £25m anyway.

Oh, and as someone said above, he goes by the name Zeki - at least according to the Man United PA he does.

It sounds like he's a promising player anyway lads! And let's be honest - he can't be any worse than Danny Rose, so that's an upgrade straight away.

He's far better at the LB role than he was on the wing, and has consistently played there on all his recent outings. Deja vu the "Bale's a LB" discussions.

Tricky one.

Rose started out as a left sided midfielder midfielder but although skillful does not have the Bale/Lennon/Townsend speed to be a Spurs winger (same issue with Bentley really in that respect) - although is decent moving forward (as seen in Europa League).

HR moved him to LB - almost certainly because Spurs lacked a good understudy - and think Rose lacks experience as LB, although gives his all (as seen in season before last when he covered for BAE.

Probably needs game time in either role yo show what he can do - arguably a victim of HR's rotation (or lack of)

Fryers ready to quit Manchester United for Tottenham

The 19-year-old's switch to White Hart Lane will be resolved at a tribunal, with the Red Devils losing another youngster following Paul Pogba's switch to Juventus

The 19-year-old has accepted a £20,000-a-week contract offer to move to White Hart Lane after his contract with United expired this summer and he refused to sign a new deal as they would not meet his wage demands.
The Red Devils are entitled to compensation as they brought Fryers through their youth system, but the fee will be decided by an independent tribunal as the Old Trafford club want £6 million for the left-back while Spurs rate him at around £2m.
Fryers is understood to have been told that he will go straight into the Spurs first-team squad under new head coach Andre Villas-Boas as competition for Benoit Assou-Ekotto, with Danny Rose likely to leave the Londoners this summer.
The defender, who broke into Sir Alex Ferguson's first-team squad last season, will join Ravel Morrison and Paul Pogba as the latest promising youth prospect to turn his back on the club.
Sir Alex has already expressed concerns over the full-back’s future, admitting that the club had not been in contact with him during the post-season break.
"We haven't heard anything from Zeki Fryers," said the United boss to MUTV on Monday. "I don't know what's happening there but he's not been in touch with the club. His agent hasn't been in touch with the club and I can only assume he'll be back for training."
Fryers made his debut in the Red Devils’ 3-0 victory over Leeds in last season's League Cup but has not appeared in the Premier League since his side’s Boxing Day defeat to Blackburn.
The move will signal a third high-profile departure of United's brightest young talent in half a year, with Morrison having joined West Ham in January and Pogba moving to Juventus on Tuesday.
Ferguson accused Pogba of showing the Old Trafford club “a lack of respect” following his switch to the Turin giants, with the Frenchman having been locked in a contract dispute with United for a number of months.

Do the wages have an impact on the tribunal fee?

If so, it won't be a cut price deal.
