if you dont like the notion of 'what if' then football isnt for you mate. football is unpredictable and therefore the what if arguement is always valid. of course there is no sure way of knowing a new striker could break his leg but then again id rather be in the position to see rather than not.

 if I didn't like the notion of what if then life wouldn't be for me!

I have no problem with the general notion. I do have a problem with people trying to base their less than solid arguments on such a notion.

I'm gonna do some ironing before this rumbled on

firstly as someone mentioned berbatov was signed in july

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/4989122.stm

and secondly, do you seriously believe we have any chance in hell in signing torres? I know we badly need a striker but to be so deluded to think we would sign him is ridiculous!

You say i call myself a fan but thats exactly what i am, a massive spurs fan that wishes to see us succeed and progress, and after last seasons highs i would hate to see us take another step backwards.

your correct we arent doing badly BUT how well would we be doing if we actually had a striker that would score? we look so toothless without bale and vdv its ridiculous. If one or both of these got injured do you think we could compete with the top 4 right now?

we struggled to score against several of the lesser teams this year, wasted points that will add up come the end of the season.

thunk you miss understand a little. The point about berbatov wass the sale to utd on the last day and the Torres ref is him to Chelsea likely to be on the last day soothe point is big players are bought at the end on the window not just squad players. If spurs will get anyone is a different story. Personally i cant see any deals coming in and think we'll be hard pushed to cling on to 5th as a result

Firstly, how do you know that we aren't pushing for a slightly more unrealistic Target because those that are "available and realistic" might not be any better than we already have?

Secondly, your "last day" theory is utter garbage....berbatov, VDV, possibly Torres this window.

Lastly, "we are doomed"? When we are still not doing too fekkin badly. You call yourself a fan. Where's your fekkin support!

This!

And this...

Why do people always get in a panic in the transfer window? We are still in the Champions League and have a chance of winning it. We are 5th in the league and still have a chance of getting in the CL next year. We are still in the FA cup and have a good chance of winning it. All this without our strikers performing. Defoe is coming back and may start banging them in and the others for all the moaning are all international strikers with decent records. It will be very difficult to get anyone who is better than them and their clubs will not want to let them go (just as we don't want to let the likes of Modric or Bale go). Harry is doing the right thing and not buying for the sake of buying (as we have done before). If no-one is available, then we should wait for the summer and keep faith in what we have, I don't want to go and spend £25-30m on a player and then learn he can't cut it in the prem and infact Defoe was the better option. Yes we want a striker who will guarantee 20 goals a season, but name me one for less than £30m?

Let's all get some perspective.

Spurs Community accepts no responsibility for any nervous breakdowns suffered between now and our failure to make a signing tomorrow night.

looks like i did. but the funny thing about that deal is we were on the flip side of it and we saw what a shit deal (in footballing terms) we got. yes we got loads more money but only frazier campbell to replace the best forward we have had in years.

this is exactly why other teams will be cautious. the issue is different with torres as he has obviously had his head turned but then again sometimes money talks and if liverpool are willing then more fool them

It wouldn't be Levy's spurs without some action on the final day, I reckon the deadline day news ticker will have a spurs signing in it. Not certain, but when was the last time we didn't sign someone on deadline day? Our chairman loves a bargain, and tomorrow's the day where you can sometimes pick one up.

ok heres a topic for today, if Torres goes to Chelsea who thinks harry will go for Anelka???

No let's not :)

The topic for today and every other day of the window in this thread is ITK. And some leeway for methods of self harm come 11pm Monday night.

Thing i don't get is that if this Carrol bid is true and harry think he is gonna hit the ground running, the only thing Carrol is hitting is the treatment table if rumors are to believed. He is supposed to be out till at least April.

To be honest i am not feeling optimistic about us finishing 4Th spot this year because i have completely lost confidence in our strikers.... I believe we have missed this window of opportunity to really establish our selfs among the big boys as it seems they are all strengthening where they need to

Anelka may being going to Liverpool in part exchange for Torres, so don't think we'll be after him.
