Agree Matty, but there is no doubt Vert isn't signing to be our LB as CB cover, its the other way round (not directed at you mate)

He is a CB by trade, and a bloody good one, he'll definitely be first choice alongside Kaboul next season. Caulker will start off third choice I'm sure and that still means plenty of games and if he's doing really well he might edge one out. Healthy competition is exactly what we need.
I know that Mr P, anyway you know my views on this, but I was responding to Dans post about bring 5/6 th choice, which I think is mental!

You could well be right Steve, but I think he'll get even better (think he's 23?)...I like what I see in terms of natural ability.

I think he could be used in a number of positions and I include in behind the striker despite his shy stats in that respect.

Also in a 4-3-3 which Harry has played, just a little ahead of Sandro and Parker, where Modric operated when we played Norwich away. You quite rightly point out that he has tremendous ability in gliding past players, and that can open teams right up. He would of been well useful against Sunderland away recently for example. I've been saying it for ages that we lack real running power from deeper central positions which drags defenders out of position and affects the oppositions shape ie its a way to combat bus parkers.

I think he has enough natural ability to be seriously considered.

We'll see, I have a feeling this may be immaterial. In a 433 without Luka I'd much rather VDV there behind Ade and between the posts than on the right of a 3 as he was at Norwich. Couldn't put Dembele there over VDV if fit.

Ahead of club captain Dawson and Gallas? Not next season IMO.

Yes. Caulker is on a speedy rise. Dawson and Gallas, as mh as I like them are going the other way. And King Ledley seems to be struggling. I don't know how he managed to play so much this year, given how very nasty his injury is. We need 3 top quality CB's who we can rely on fitness wise. Consistency rules when it comes to CB pairings - it must be very disconcerting as a defender if u don't know who u might play with week in week out

Dan, this kid was good enough for our first team this year. He was one of the best centre backs in the premier league last season and I'm not convinced he's not already our best centre back.

No one would know who Caulker was if he wasn't our player on loan. Ask Arsenal or Chelsea fans if they rate him (or know who he is). He looked good, but didn't stand out any more than say Zak Whitbread or Daniel Ayala - and no one would be clamoring for them to be in our side.

In a season where Swansea won many admirers, and produced some great attacking football - Swansea fans rate him as one of their best players.

My Norwich season ticket holder chum has literally laughed at you're the Caulker/Ayala comparison. Caulker has been twice the player this season than both those two.

Performance and ability wise.

Steady on BBLG, Younes was one of the best CBs in the league last year, no way Caulker is close to his level yet.

Reporter: Harry, what do you think of Steven Caulker
Harry: Well I thought he was triffic until I went to Arse-Mania and noticed that they didn't have a thread dedicated to him. So I have to assume he's not as good as I once thought
Reporter: So his future at Tottenham
Harry: He has none. I've talked to Daniel and we're going to sell him and try to get Ignasi Miguel. He's highly regarded on most Arsenal sites.
Reporter: He had some poor games this year when called upon
Harry: Doesn't matter, a poster named goon4life said he was better than Maldini at 19 in October and that's all I need to hear

The only Swansea fan I know rated Ashley Williams higher

Not sure who that says more about, Caulker, Williams or my mate.

If we can sign Vertonghen and Remy in the next coming weeks that would be a great signal of intent in this transfer window.

I would keep Caulker too, with the extra European games I think he'll still get plenty of game time. Preferably alongside the experienced Gallas or King. I'm not sure where Dawson will fit in but we can always rely on him as cover. We could have the deepest talent of centre backs next season.

I wonder if this is one of the "people" who said we're better playing 4-4-2. Crafty bugger influencing our 'Arry like that.

I really can't see Caulker wanting to stay here next season if we sign Vertonghen and keep Gallas and King on the books. Kaboul, Vertonghen, Dawson, Gallas, King - that is a hell of a pecking order to get past.

Cisse scored 36 in 95 for Metz and 37 in 65 for Freiburg. Remy has scored 26 in 68 for Nice, and 28 in 60 for Marseille.
