There's a huge double standard going on here. Players routinely go in for - illegal - tackles that threaten other player's careers and get no ban at all even retrospectively. I'd much rather se them punished severely.

I remember when Defoe bit Mascherano, I don't recall a single one of you lot espousing your faux disgust or calling for him to banned for a year.

There is a big difference here. Tackling is part of the game. I would say that most of us on here have played at some level, and I would doubt that those of us who have cannot say that they have got a little bit frustrated, or get a little over passionate and gone in for a tackle a little harder than you should have. I do not want to see career threatening tackles every week, but an over-exuberant tackle is just an extension of the game.

At no point have I ever, in any situation, thought to myself "I'm going to bite him". It is not part of football, and is completely inhumane. To do it once is deplorable. To do it twice is IMO unforgivable. To do it a third time is (after 2 lengthy bans for previous offences) is the end of the road, especially, and this is pure assumption, that looking at the incident he knew exactly what he was doing, he went over too Chiellini with the premeditated aim of biting him.

It has been said that he was frustrated and worried about being eliminated from the competition. How comes he managed to control his cannibalistic tendencies when the title was slipping away from Liverpool?

The whole world should start a campaign to get Chiellini to report him to the Brazilian Police. See how Suarez likes porridge, latin american style.......

Defoe was just a lazy, selfish, amoeba who spent most of his career avoiding physical contact in case it prevented him from being on England's bench.
Why do you never show any respect to players like Dawson, Defoe and Lennon?

It's pathetic really.

And this has relevance to Suarez biting someone, how? That's right, it doesn't

So a bad tackle can be career threatening. Are you saying a bite cannot be career threatening?

You are aware that people have actually died from human bites. Due to the bacteria in the human mouth a bite carries a risk of meningitis or endocarditis. So yeah, call me stupid if you wish, but I'm pretty sure death is fairly career threatening.

I love Suarez. I love his passion for the game. I would have him on my team everyday of the week. I am also aware you can't defend him here.

@Joey7Barton
All things considered I'd rather receive a bite than a leg breaking challenge. Whilst he should be punished, it is not the end of the world.

@Joey7Barton
He's a winner. If that means he occasionally steps over the line between right and wrong, than thats what comes with the territory...

Suarez facing minimum four match ban, to be served only at international level. (AS)

Complete joke if that is any way accurate.

It was an ironic response to someone suggesting Suarez deserved a bigger punishment because he also dives and is a ****. Might help if you had the intellect to grasp the context.

FIFA sources say Suárez' punishment has to reflect reality:"What's the difference between what he did & a head butt, or a deliberate elbow?"

Suárez minimum ban would be as for violent conduct: four matches, though could be more. All to be served with national team.

Much easier to prove that he meant to bite someone than to prove than someone deliberately tried to make a dangerous tackle.

Defoe did it once and it was in response to provocation (a dangerous tackle, in fact).

Suarez has bitten opponents on three occasions, each time unrpovoked.

Doesn't give you the right to bite someone though.

Looks like they're not going to take a tough stance on this.

Can't believe it really (well I can sadly), but how he's going to get away with this again is just horrendous for the game.

Any other walk of life you'd be in serious trouble for doing something like that, and three times. Pathetic.

Never said it did, but that is the one inkblot on Defoe's character and it's mitigated. Suarez has several and all of them unmitigated.

Not so much defending Defoe as I am making clear that Suarez is roughly ten billion, nine hundred and seventy four million, two hundred a fifty four thousnand, six hundred and twenty eight times worse.

In court of law mitigation can reduce a sentence, previous bad character evidence can increase it, repeat offences especially so.

If someone is convicted for assault for a third time, his sentence will be far worse than it was the first time. Let's take a punch that knocks someone out in a pub. FIrst time, a month or two. Second time, a year. Third time, several years.

4 games for national team? Pretty much excusing this behavior. Whats ot gonna take to finally come down on him? A 4th bite? Because you know that its going to happen.
