storts re sky story we are still negotiating with swansea over ben davies:

I think Davies is solid-ish, a good prospect given his age and experience and obviously home grown. But I can't help feeling that for prices say up to 14 million we could purchase someone who could offer more going forward as well. Under 10 million and Davies is a solid signing though.

If we sign him, you just know that the Spurs TV guy will ask him about that.

Poor guy. I'd almost view that as a downside to coming here from his perspective, as he'd never be able to escape the comparison. Eriksen gets it far less, but he's made multiple comments that he doesn't like being compared to other Danish players such as Laudrup, etc.

I had a thought today.

You know when we all wrote off Aaron Lennon? And we spent a lot of money on David Bentley, an exciting young British player to be his replacement? And it turns out that while Bentley didn't necessarily work out, that the move inspired Aaron Lennon to find form, have his best ever season, and go back to being one of our most impactful, influential players?

I was thinking of this about our proposed signing of Ben Davies. Davies is an exciting young British player. He is coming in on big money to replace a player we've all written off. He may not work out but maybe, just maybe... well, I was just thinking...

We should sell Danny Rose and get in another left back that's actually any fucking good. Just to make sure.

To be fair, although I gave you a 'creative' rating, Rose was one of the better performers at the start of last season and we dod miss the width he gave us when he was first injured - its just that when he came back from injury he looked like a shadow of the player he was at the start. So maybe Poch can do get him back to (or better) than Rose's form at the start of last season whether we buy Davies or ANO LB

Rmember the last welsh LB we bought... ... ...

Last Welsh full back we bought was Chris Gunter wasn't it? I actually had high hopes for him but obviously didn't work out.

Glad to see ITK on Davies - seems like he could be a solid signing.

It's my understanding that to obtain charitable status you must benefit the public at large, whereas the site is only used by Spurs fans. The joys of doing a law degree lol.
Not at all. Lots of 'niche' charities.

IKEA is a charity. Truth.

Indeed. It is possible. Rose is hardly the pariah he's made out to be. He probably is coachable but was getting none of that last season after his return, hence his mediocre displays. Not always the players fault and you could well prove right about Poch being the difference.

On the above post, I am surprised but enjoying the many 'optimistic' ratings for what is, surely evidently, a gag. Can you have an optimistic joke? ...I guess one could be:

Q: Why did Danny Rose cross the road?
A: To get himself a new football club.

Now, THAT's optimistic. ;)

The ITK alludes to Swansea wanting Gylfi also.
Swapping (I would assume both command similar fees) a fringe midfielder for a much needed left back would be an excellent start to the window.

Just read that Liverpool have signed our young goalkeeper Lawrence Vigoroux too.

Hmm...depends if Eriksen is playing in front, cos if so, I want my left back to stay put.
I think anywhere around £8-12m is fair enough and going rate these days.

Given how average Lennon's been for the last 3/4 seasons, if that theory works regarding Rose, I am truly, truly dreading the next half decade.

No he wasn't.

Considering in the first ten games of the season, we had the meanest defence in the Premier League.. I'd say you're wrong.

There's plenty of fans who've never taken to Rose, and regardless of what people seem to think about footballers these days, these kids can't find it easy to perform in the sort of atmosphere that was so evident at the Lane last season.

Time for the 12th man to get their shit together.

I'd say that was more about the extremely defensive, tight manner in which we played than Rose's defensive contribution.

He's not a bad player at all, but nor is he a particularly effective LB IMO

No he wasn't.

Think if you look back at the start of last seasons match rating threads, you will find preety decent marks - and even a MOTM.

Age old problem of performing well at the start of the season and badly in the second - who remembers the first half.

Complete opposite for Eriksen - a bit part player in the first half, with most of his assists and goals in the second half. But many people's player of the season (and rightly).
