Fact is LVG has acted swiftly, without the need of training sessions left, right and center. That's the sign of a confident manager.

No, it's the sign of someone who has acted swiftly. Maybe.

Whether it's a wise thing, whether it's a successful thing, and whether acting less swiftly is wise or foolish, or perhaps itself a sign of a confident manager, perhaps even over-confident, or lacking in confidence, or highly appropriate in the circumstances of which we know nothing....or simply not quite true: come on, honestly, who knows?

It is easy to jump to the conclusion that if LVG does something, anything else must be wrong, but I think that's too easy.

Don't think it has much to do with Van Gaal but has everything to do with a Board who watched a catastrophic slump last season. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't blow up in their faces. They could be in for a rough ride for a couple of seasons if Van Gaal doesn't turn out to be the messiah. He's failed before.

Well considering they were trying to buy both of them under Moyes already, it's probably more a case of him not disagreeing with the signings.

So he had the final say so?

If he didn't want them than Man Ure wouldn't buy them. Moyes had gone before both of them were signed leaving LVG to make the final decision. Bloody obvious when you think about it.

van Gaal has always been a coach who works with what he's given.
He's unlikely to have had very much input into the signing of the players (especially since Herrara's been on the cards for more than 12 months) but will quite obviously have no objection to the quality of the players' they've bought.

Your in denial of plain facts.

To suggest that LVG "has always been a coach who works with what he's given" bears no truth whatsoever. Please stop digging that massive hole that your getting yourself into. It belies everyone's intelligence here on SC.

Markovic to Liverpool. FFS! Such a good player.

They're loosing Suarez who scored 31 league goals and assisted 19. That's a total of 50 goals Suarez either scored or created. Bale had direct involvement in 30 goals the season before he left - just as a comparison. They can buy Markovic, Lallana, Lovren, Can, it really doesn't matter. They'll be a lesser team without Suarez and the 50 goals he bought with him last season.

People happy with 6th. Great ambition there then. Do I expect top 4? No. Do I think we should aim for it? Yes. Coming 6th will lead to our top players leaving. I believe this year we will probably hang on to most but Lloris would've been here for 3 years, 3 unsuccessful years. Eriksen would probably want to take the next step too. This has been our cycle. Poor season--->manager sacked--->players leave--->poor season

6th is not good enough and won't solve this!

6th is the best we can hope for and the sooner people get comfortable with it the better. We are not finishing above Chelsea or City. We all know that. Arsenal are close to being a really top side and a couple of shrewd signings like Sanchez will see them out of reach for us. Liverpool will have a tougher season this year i think. More matches, no Suarez……but some good signings. They know where they are going and what Rodgers want and I think will be too good for us. Then we have Utd, the hardest to call. But i seems them bouncing back with a top 4 finish.

So that leaves us and Everton battling for 6th

Difference here is they appear to have a capable manager.

Don't agree.

I see City and Chelsea as out of our reach and one and two. United will have a tough enough time getting back into the top three at the click of a finger to.

I think us Arsenal, United, Liverpool and Everton will all battle it out from 3rd-7th. United and Arsenal rightly favourites for third and fourth.

We can't judge Liverpool on the back of one good season with no European competition and one of the top 5 players in world football. They've done very well and at the moment they look a lot better than us but things can change very quickly and it's far from certain they'll be back in the CL again.

Yeah.

I think Liverpool will struggle in comparison to last season anyway. Losing Suarez is just a massive loss, not to mention the much heavier schedule they'll face.

Or the sign of a deeply concerned manager who holds little belief in the squad of players he has inherited. On the other hand perhaps Pochettino is reasonably satisfied with the players he has inherited and only sees the need for slight fine tuning.

agreed it won't be so easy and obviously suarez is a huge loss. However Rodgers philosophy is part of the club. The players seem to know what he wants and do it with a style we can only hope to emulate one day. They might be paying more for the Lalllana's and Lovren's than we would be comfortable with but they are making good signings with plenty more to come it seems.

I will be surprised if they are not in top 4 and truly staggered if we finished above them

But time will tell i guess. I hope i am wrong

Liverpool buying a lot of players whilst about to sell their star is like us last summer. It may add squad depth, but it may also not click (just like us).

Really? Staggered if we finished above them? I certainly wouldn't be, far from it.

I think this season is going to be tighter than ever. They have a good manager but I'm not blown away by their business if I'm being honest, they're over paying considerably.
