Re jj's news as we predicted I suppose. Deals don't go this quiet and then happen. We've moved on I suspect.

What like Aston Villa did a few years ago? Until they didn't make the CL and then got saddled with a massive wage bill and subsequently had to sell all their best players and focus on just consolidating. Great idea.

Yes, it will feel much better when our remaining good players demand to leave due to the fact that we didn't even try.

According to Spanish reports, we're close to signing Federico Fazio- a new name linked to us- this is what JJ could have been referring to.

Do you think there will ever be a time when levy thinks fuck it! I said I'll back the new manager 100% and actually do it! And get the players he requested and not listen to the special deals.

People who are always positive don't want to hear anything negative....It kills their buzz, man.

It's not about being positive, it's just being in the happy situation whereby you realise that in the great scheme of things, this doesn't really matter that much.

Spurs are my passion, my team, my club and I've took enough shit over the years supporting them ....... BUT.....

I don't get the needless and frankly ridiculous reactions going on about itk (hypocritical bastard that I am I still hang on every word hoping for the big signing).

We are who we are, we don't dine at the top table, we do fucking incredible business to be honest just to maintain status quo.

I defend Dawson because he puts it on the line for us, gives his all, and yes he isn't the greatest I acknowledge that, but until he goes I back him. If mustachio comes in great, looks an upgrade, brilliant! But if he doesn't come in I'm not going to go out and buy a cat for the express reason that I have something to kick.

Itk is one guy saying "I've heard a rumour". That's it!!!! To then work yourself up Into a frothing at the mouth moron about it is frankly insane!

Anyway sermon over I'll let them all get back to describing this window as "the most depressing ever!"

While we could do with a couple of class signings to really make us challenge I don't quite understand the criticism of DL.
We've been told by the various ITK that MM deal was done on our part but the other two parties had the dispute, also we've been told that we have accepted bids for our deadwood ie Dawson etc but they don't want to leave. So he's doing what we are all wanting?
Anyone can see that while we all want to sign the players having 30'players on the wage bill means we have to shift some before we buy.... Not because we are being stingy with money but because of common sense. We have already been stung with levy backing managers by signing players such as Bentley and ekotto who have totally given up and run their contracts down costing us millions and millions that we could've bought new players with. I'm sure as soon as we shift some players, the bids will be straight in and we'll be scrambling last minute and will pull two signings off.
The whole situation is unfortunately a product of having many managers all having different systems and so coming in and not wanting certain players who other managers rated and so are on long well paid contracts.....

Hopefully not. Not saying he's a bad defender, but i'd put him in the same pace group as Per Mertesacker and Daniel Van Buyten.

Not an ideal partner for Jan.

Mertesacker did very well for Arsenal last season and they also play with a high line- I know nothing about him, I just don't think we should be ruling a transfer out already because of a lack of pace...

Watch Mertesacker without Koscielny, totally different player.

But i'm sure theres a thread elsewhere for this

Both deals are looking more and more distant now and i concur with that goat.
Neither are technically Off but as of today both are not looking likely or that they will happen.
Its been very difficult to get players out of clubs and that includes our ones leaving as well.
Things change quickly blah blah blah but lets hope things do change on this and we are successful.
See what happens when i be positive about deals! I'm much better pooh poohing.

Have a feeling this may still happen. Think Soton may cave last couple of days. Perhaps wishful thinking on my part.

Although it's not sexy and fun, I'd rather us stick than go and panic buy an average CB if we can't pull off the likes of MM.

Depends on one's philosophy on gambling and debt.

I'm risk averse most of the time. So I'm with Levy on most things.
I still think we need to see our current squad given time.
We may need to spend in Jan, so I'd keep my powder dry ATM.

Poch now has to earn his corn.

Fed up and pissed off of the same old shit (n)

As everyone kept saying. The next manager was an essential appointment, something we HAD to get right and stand by in years to come in order to become what we're capable of. Otherwise, we could be on a very slippery slope and things could get very bad.

Thank you Levy, seriously thank you. You make sure that when we sell, we get good money for it, you make sure we're financially solid and without you, who knows where we'd be. However, now we are a solid club and have been for a while, it's time to push on and make the next step. We have a young, hungry manager who we've possibly took a gamble on. It's an essential appointment. This could determine whether in thr next few years we fight for UCL or UEL qualification. We are financially secure and we are a couple additions away from giving it a go. MS and MM want to come and want would make a very good difference. Also, they're choices of Poch. They'll set us back a few quid, but we can afford it and such an investment could prove to reel in more cash with potential UCL!

This year we're not selling our best players so let's get what we need! Poch views MS as essential so back your man! Why didn't we get him early? I'm very confident that if we'd have gone him for him in early July we'd have got him and he'd be bedded in now. Even if we sign him now it'll take him a while.

We're lucky to have Levy but we need to make a plunge and I feel that this is the time to do it. We might not have many more chances. The top 4 of last year are leaving us behind, Everton are dangerous and sooner or later United will be back.

Without the right signings we'll fail again. Our best players will leave, we'll do poor and Poch will be sacked. A very familiar story that will continue until we improve. I will not be happy if this is the case. I almost feel bad for Hugo signing that contract. I do worry about our ambition and whether or not we actually intend to be where the fans want

Quite happy with what we have tbh. More new signings taking X amount of months to bed in is the last thing we need after last season's events.

At CB we are comfortable. I'd expect Verts and Kaboul to be first choice, with Dier and Chiriches as back up. Still see Daws leaving.

And at CM, I'd like to see Holtby playing the 'Schneiderlin' position along side Capoue. He has great energy, good passing and distribution, ability to get forward and get a goal. Imo he'd be perfect there. Don't really see him playing in the Eriksen role.

So all in all, quite happy with what we have and roll on rest of the season.

Good job you didn't have to go through the mid 90s.

What is the chance that Dier who was bought for the future might now be seen as the partner for Verts if we can't get MM yet? Then we look for another back up player as we are aiming to sell one or to defenders?
