What like Aston Villa did a few years ago? Until they didn't make the CL and then got saddled with a massive wage bill and subsequently had to sell all their best players and focus on just consolidating. Great idea.

Again in fairness, we're not talking about chucking £60k a week at Agbonlahor and Ashley Young to bloat the squad, Schneiderlin is a player the coach has identified as intricate to his puzzle. He's valued at £20m, we have allegedly offered in the region of £16m-£18m (although even that would astound me), that extra couple of million isn't doing a Leeds (that's doubling Seth Johnson's wages because you think he looks offended rather than shocked when you offer him £20k a week...) or a Villa. It's the old adage of Levy having to come out of every deal with a bigger pair of balls than the person he's up against.

I'm still confident on MS to be honest. It looks like this CB will be Fazio- a lot of journos in Spain seem to think we are going to pay his release clause.

Tbh honest I think I'd rather stick with what we've got now and focus on youth, still ship a few out so we don't have this problem next summer.

I'm dreading deadline day signings of mediocrity out of some kind of compulsion or desperation

We all know we've got the stadium to plan for and are thus somewhat compromised in the interim.

However, why are we pursuing the likes of MS then? Fine if we don't want to, or even can't, meet Southampton's demands but its immensely frustrating to see us pursue these targets when the fact of the matter is its incredibly unlikely we're going to get them.
In others words why are we bothering? If its unrealistic why are we wasting our time? And then we're left with little time to close out deals for alternatives or circumstances have changed that prevent to do so.

MM I can understand is a complex deal and it doesn't surprise me that one has hit the buffers.

If the stadium, which by the way seems to go further into the long grass every year, means we won't spend any money improving the squad then I think the club need to come out and say that. Supporters are spending a fortune on what was last season a mediocre product. They deserve openness either way. As it happens I don't think the stadium has anything to do with it.

Again, sort of the point I was making.

And for it's worth, I think dumping a load of money on a stadium represents more of a risk of doing a 'Leeds'. The football needs to be successful enough to fill it.

Fuck me, some of you lot need to go and have a wash as it sounds like you have got a lot of sand in vaginas!!!

There's still two weeks left in this window and everyone is losing their shit like we are in a relegation fight!! We signed 7 players last year that we haven't seen the best of,clichéd but they can be like new signings this year with the training by a really highly regarded coach.

So, man the fuck up, it's not the end of the world that we MIGHT miss out on two players.

Yes exactly, especially as we have our stadium to pay for.

What is the chance that Dier who was bought for the future might now be seen as the partner for Verts if we can't get MM yet? Then we look for another back up player as we are aiming to sell one or to defenders?

I certainly think we'll see him start more games than previously thought - particularly if Kaboul doesn't rediscover his best form and Dawson isn't in our plans. If his good enough his old enough in my view. I like Vlad so it's not the end of the world if we don't sign an upgrade at cb (and I mean a first 11 starter not a similar level to current) and stick.

I think were at a point with the squad where we need only first 11 additions. We have good depth but a lack of real top quality to support our 3 class players in Lloris, Verts and Eriksen (Lamela isn't there yet imo). It should be a case of add real quality or sit and wait until it becomes available.

Lack of transfer strategy. Because its different when you are buying to improve the squad, and when you are being opportunistic.

And dont forget to buy the new Home, Away,3rd kits, renew your season tickets, purchase official spurs merchandise to support the new stadium!

On one hand I am grateful. We run a tight ship, we are competitive and we have new infrastructure which will allow us to progress to heights where we once were.

On the other?

Were being held back.

If we just conducted ourself with a bit more gusto and aggression, we could actually discover that we are still a massive club.

Some of the best players do want to play for Spurs. I dont think we do enough to make it happen

Or when we do make it happen and have world class players like King, Modric, VDV, Adebayor and Bale in the same side we get a manager who says 4th place is as good as it gets.

We just can't catch a break.

I dont think we can expect any form of new incoming ITK until we see some outgoing ITK surface.. Dawson appeared to off to Hull or wherever.. we start to see ITK about MM...
Rumours of Sandro leaving.. and we get links to MS....
Suddenly it all goes quiet on the outgoing ... as does the incoming ITK..
Wouldnt be surprised if the deals for MM and MS are already agreed in principle, and are pending outgoing sales on our part.. although I would think Villareal and Southampton have given us a deadline to meet to sign them - based on their own needs to bring in replacements if they havent already done so.
Cant see Levy being willing to add to an already "bloated" squad of players until some have left.... if they flat out refuse to go, and are not registered to play.. we are stuck with a player that the coach doesnt rate, paying him "x" thousands a week, with diminishing re-sale value... and no market to sell in until Jan..
Would imagine if there are no takers for some permanently, then Levy may bite the bullet and send them on loan to free up space for the two linked. ..

We've got a stadium to pay for

The stadium that's been 10 years in the making, is that the one you mean?? Or the one we might not see for another 5!

We're has all this stadium itk come from, thought this was done yesterday!

The cynic in me says, to make it look like we're trying in order to placate Managers and fans alike. Let's face it, if it happened once or twice then fair enough but it's every window.

Nothing would drive fans away more like a perceived lack of ambition, by "attempting" these deals it at least looks like we're showing some.

Isnt it still the 21st August?

Ill be all over Levy like a rash if he has blunderfucked it all up again at the close of the window, but to me it just looks like we are just lining up our ducks in a row right now for the final weeks push.

I still believe we will get one or both of MS and MM, and if not other another CB target.

Hopefully the new gaffer gets the best out of what we already have if we are not bringing anybody in, then again there is,always our special relationship with Real to fall back on!

If MM is off the table, which it looks like at this juncture, please make Vlad and Vertonghen our first choice pairing. It could turn out to be a blessing in disguise

But did we just have these two (MM & MS) as our transfer target or do we have plan b signings? Specially in defense!
Getting clubs rejecting bids or players not wanting to come (Even Muller apparently rejected Man U...) or complicated 3rd party is part of this business but at least we should have other options.
