Well I hope he's right and we do. For what it's worth I did say I thought we'd start slow. But I didn't envisage the mess off the field either.
Who knows this shitty performance will spring us to the best season. Remember chelsea under conte. After having bad performances and losing finally against arse badly and then went on a long winning streak and won the title.

This "knee jerk" debate is nonsense. What matters is what's true. Our play has been turgid and clueless in the league since at least last Christmas, and the points and results in the league corroborate that. I can't even work out what our attacking plan is, other than stick a bunch of forwards on the pitch and see what happens.

I would rather Poch turned this around but this malaise can't go on much longer.

The most concerning thing is our lack of intensity, pressing and movement.

It's been going on since the turn of the year and doesn't look like changing.

If we keep going the way we're going we'll be in the bottom half of the table for most of the season.

Nevermind players settling in, it's the same core of players who look way too lethargic as a collective unit.

That's with Poch to fix. But it's not sustainable.

Those type of managers prefer large transfer and wage budgets. We’ll end up with Eddie Howe ?

I think Ancelotti will make do on our budgets... Napoli don't outspend us. It would be sad if it comes to that but we have to plan for such an eventuality in any case. Whether a bigger team comes calling or Levy pulls the trigger. It will happen sooner rather than later.

I would have liked the stability of him leaving at the end of a season though if it were to come to that.

I think that's entirely different though. Conte was new to the job and finding his best set up. Poch is in his 6th year and should know what it takes to brush aside Newcastle, even if not full strength.

If it had started from this season I'd be totally relaxed about it and suggest it's just a new system. But every single game since February has been a slog.

We beat Palace 2-0 at home when the mood was high but still made hard work of it. Imagine if that was Liverpool? They'd have coasted to a win in that atmosphere.

We beat Huddersfield 4 nil but still had a couple of flights against one of the worst PL teams in history.

Brighton was a slog and it took a brilliant strike from Eriksen to gloss over a crap performance.

Ajax at home was bereft of ideas and a more mature team would not have given us a chance in the away tie.

West Ham home was embarassing.

Whether you like it or not there is a trend at the moment and that is a team who are low on ideas and spark.

Sometimes coaches get ideas in their heads and persist and persist with it, yet despite everyone saying "It's not working" continue to do it until it becomes their demise. Alas Rodgers at Liverpool. That's what worries me with Poch, too clever for his own good.

VY said this could all unfold soon, so I guess we'll have to sit tight, doubt we'll be waiting long to find out what's going on.

If we/Poch dont sort it out sharpish we will finish in sixth or maybe worse because the teams around us have everything that we are currently not demonstrating....therefore DL wont let piss poor performances become a habit, it needs to be dealt with immediately and if not by Poch by someone who can and wants to....

VY, you're sounding like a lot more than just ITK!!

I don’t remember anyone asking those questions when we won in Amsterdam. Call me cynical but I doubt any of this thread would have been said if we won yesterday by a few goals. So bottom line while everyone seems to be reflecting on long periods of disappointment this is nothing other than a knee jerk reaction to a single loss.

None of this would be happening if we had more than 15 points from our last 15 games. None of this would be happening if Poch showed some level of commitment to the club.

We've been hit and miss v Newcastle for years so I'm not overly surprised by the result. I do however think Poch deserves the time to settle Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sessegnon in before the long knives come out. Sissoko and Winks is hardly the stuff of dreams in the engine room.

Even if we accept the CE situation, believe that Jan is injured and what ever else, why the fuck are we playing like we are and struggling at home to Villa and Newcastle??? Let alone the end of last season when we didnt have those excuses....and its time to end this we start slowly bollox....we will never win anything if we find excuses for our failings....

Yes I said it earlier today too many excuses now. We have a top squad and great resources so should not be struggling against so many teams. Before this year you could guarantee we would not lose to a bottom half team but now we struggle to beat any team.

I honestly think Mourinho will come back with a vengeance and whatever club he goes to will reap the rewards. Secondly, Chelsea managed just fine after he left, and have had multiple successes since.

Anyway, all of that is futile at this point cause I just hope Poch can address the slide and get back to 16/17 form and positivity.

I hope so, as I was a huge fan of him up until the wheels fell off at Real. He went from being a positive serial winner, to being a negative paranoid complainer. I just hope he doesn't do it for another PL side!

and for the record i dont want mourinho or anyone else. I want Poch to sort it as im quite sure Levy does too... but we are supposed to be a “big” club, CL finalists, challenging for the title, attracting top talent, stadium etc...so we need to start being like Liverpool and City in terms of playing and if theres a problem we identify it and fix it...but i dont see problems being fixed or lessons being learnt...even with certain players being unavailable we should be playing much better and not losing to Newcastle...City are pissed they dropped points to us but look at their play and attempts on goal, we cant even claim that against Newcastle....760 passes on Sunday and probably 730 sideways and back....

If this thread was made during the summer it would have been laughed at and binned, but after a loss its knee jerk? So stupid.

The most concerning thing isnt even how we are playing and that really is concerning but it is Poch's attitude and demeanour. I think the Verts situation exacerbated matters a bit more.

The players and the way they play etc is a reflection on the manager... is that an overreaction? perhaps but its better to nip it in the bud asap as it can snowball into something seriously bad.

I am sure Poch will change things but for him to do that he needs to look at himself.

I love Poch & all he’s done for us, but as someone mentioned above, yesterday’s performance wasn’t something new, this has been ongoing for a while, I can’t help but think could the squad do with hearing a new voice? Not saying I want MP out, but after 6 years have players become too complacent? Either way win a trophy or not I think this will be Poch’s last season at our club

Yes I agree but I still question his ability to get the creative attacking side going even with them.
The proof though will be in the pudding.
