So your answer to my question is you are only talking about next season then. Even then there are some questionable personnel and position choices in this lineup. But you made it work with 4 new players constraint. The problem is would it work on the field.
Outside of Dele which of those positions are questionable?

Nubel on a pre-contract in January solves a 50M+ problem before it becomes one. We have to take advantage of situations like this.

Then we can sell Lloris while he still has value.

I hope we have learned lessons. You have to replace proactively, not reactively.
Wish I could rate this agree and optimistic at the same time. He is the heir apparent to Neuer. Never mind a pre contract, I would try to sign him in Jan and be proactive as you say. Once he’s on the open market he’s gone...

Any option we could bring Isco? Looks like he's done in RM, barely playing this year

Fits very well in our 4231

Swap deal with Eriksen (+ cash from us) would be excellent, much better for me than spending 80+ on Bruno

I doubt he would come here to sit on the bench here as well.

why would they swap? they can offer eriksen a pre contract in 6 weeks time and get him for nothing.

There is no chance we sign a player of Isco’s calibre just to put him on the bench.

He’ll replace Eriksen in the squad, trading with Dele/Lamela in the line up depending on our opponents. We would have to drop Lamela or Dele to accommodate him.

Not that I think he would come, but if we could get it done he definitely wouldn’t be signed as a squad player.

I hope we don't have to put up with Lamela for another few years - he isn't good enough a few decent games inter mingled with absolute drivel the ultimate motd player.

He has got talent but what does he produce over a season? Overall his decision making is poor he doesn't score enough goals and he disappears up blind alley after blind alley. If it is to be a revolution and it needs to be then Lamela who is likeable and tries hard has to be guillotined
Funny how you'd say that after being one of our only decent players so far this season

Has this post been saved in your drafts since the summer? He was literally one of our best players last night and one of our best this season.

I don't think he gets in our strongest 11 when everyone is fit but he's a vital member of the squad, pops up with the odd goal but always puts in a shift, we need players like him.

Great point. Would add that he does raise everyone'e energy level when he comes on the pitch. Love having him come off the bench

Can't/shouldn't answer that in here. but as far as the transfers that make your lineup here is a quote that I have jsut received in PM about Berge, "Berge looks like an American Fridge Freezer. Oh, dear". You keep bringing this guy up and I keep asking have you seen him play. We might be talking about a Janssen type situation of the PL being a step too far athletically for the lad.

And Bruno's about to play in the europa. Have a look and decide whether a (overrated) shoot-first MF/10 is a nice fit for us at 50-60M. I hope we steer well clear of this guy who will be 26 at the start of next season. There is a reason he's still at Sporting when he was being flogged everywhere this past summer.

I just threw out Berge but we need some sort of DM. My point was I think it takes 4 players to right the ship. I too am concerned about the value of Fernandes.

I'm not sure that's how it works, or should work at least. Players like Kovacic, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Keita etc. weren't signed as squad players, but they have all found themselves on the bench at times due other players performing. That's how it should be.

We really shouldn't replace not having a replacement for Eriksen with not having a replacement for Lo Celso etc.

Exactly. Repeating the same mistakes. And it's funny that folks do it in a wishlist thread as in "I wish to have only 1 player for that position". FFS!

I think the main thing is not to be over reliant on one starter creatively anyhow. The main reason we needed direct cover for Eriksen was the lack of creativity from elsewhere without him.

Hoping Ndombele, a fresher set of full backs and quicker ball movement from GLC, Alli etc, mean we aren't put in that position again.

For this reason, i'm not sure i'd be chasing someone like Fernandes. Frankly I think players like that are becoming a little unfashionable.

Really think Konrad Laimer could be a good target. Works super hard, more adept in a defensive role than a Winks and plays in a team that effectively presses.

100% I agree that healthy competition for starting places is essential to us taking that final step up, but my point still stands. We will not sign a player like Isco to be a squad player.

He will spend some time on the bench that's a given, but we would be signing him to challenge for a starting berth. And I hope all our signings moving forward fit into this category.

However our most pressing issues are both FB positions, CDM and potentially a CB too depending on what Poch decide’s to do with Dier. I really don’t see a glaring need for attacking players, that’s more of a luxury at the moment.

I wonder who we are looking at for DM. Would love for us to get someone in the Ndidi mould, quick and agile yet still strong and aggressive. Dier is fine as a squad player for backup DM/CB and we all know Wanyama is finished sadly. There's bound to be affordable options in Germany/Italy/Spain/France surely.
