Poch repeatedly said that we needed a painful rebuild, literally over seasons he said we needed an overhaul meanwhile people such as yourself said that he should be doing better with the team he had at his disposal. Everytime somebody said that we needed massive changes it was labelled as an excuse but now that the team is still struggling under Jose it's now that Poch allowed the team to get this way. How many times did he need to say he wanted new signings, how many times did he need to say that he wasn't the one who was controlling transfers to make a point to the board.

Now you've decided to come up with this pure conjecture that he didn't want a DM because he kept Winks, which you've concocted because you detest Winks and he hasn't been playing for you to have a moan at so you've decided this new angle of he's to blame because Poch wanted him at DM without any shred of evidence pointing towards that.

Absolutely laughable. The only thing I'll say is that you're right that it's stupid to blame Jose for this because he needs some transfer windows to sort out that mess of a midfield.

We needed new players but he definitely should have been doing better with the players at this disposal. Relegation form with those players.

Are you saying that he wanted to upgrade Winks for another player? Absolute bollocks.

The reason he said we wanted a rebuild is because he lost half the dressing room, they'd stopped playing for him.

Modern football doesn't work like that, you don't rebuild an entire side because the manager's methods are no longer working on them.

Yes we need signings and investment but it isn't an entire rebuild. Thanks to Poch going we have now got our best CB to sign on for another three years. Toby would 100% have left if Poch stayed.

We even heard rumours that Kane wanted out if Poch stayed. The reason we needed a rebuild was because of Poch staying.

Ultimately Poch had this squad for over five years and he decided he wanted Winks as his DM, it is clear as day, he picked him every week in that position and only signed players in other positions.

JM needs time to rectify Poch's mismanagement of the squad, including alienating key players and having blinkered views on players who are clearly not good enough.

If you said to me name the player most at risk from the signing of Ndombele I'd say Winks, the player most at risk of the signing of Lo Celso I'd say Winks again. We tried to get rid of Wanyama for 2 summers and he wouldn't go.

Poch wanted to begin the rebuild when we were still playing well under him 2 seasons before this one, you need to refresh the squad constantly or else the whole ends up not buying into the managers ideas. We decided to barely make any adjustments to the squad and it snowballed into needing a giant overhaul and most of us called that happening 2 summers ago and yet everybody seems to have suffered memory lost when the problems predicted came home to roost.

I think the idea was to pair up Winks with Ndombele. We will never know, but the fact is Winks was an ever present in Poch's team when fit for 18 months.

We sold Dembele, Dier had his appendix explode and Wanyama had no knees. No replacement was signed and we held out so we could sign 2 of the top young talents in world football. 2 signings which this board was universally foaming over at the expense of signing for example Tielemans. Poch didn't exactly have much choice, before Dembele was injured Winks was not a definite starter. The alternative was Skipp.

We needed a DM more than we needed GLC. Poch chose to prioritise signing GLC over a DM so it is his fault we were left with Dier Winks and Sissoko. It’s obvious Poch was happy with his options there, Winks was his golden boy and to say he was only forced to play Winks there is revisionism.

I bet the first big signing Jose makes is a DM. That shows Poch had it wrong, and indicates it wasn’t Levy refusing to sanction the signing.

I hope you're right. The cynical side of me feels like the reason Levy finally pulled the trigger was because he was excited by Jose and his personal desire to prove he doesn't need to spend. We will see, as far as im concerned we need an overhaul and it needs to start in Jan and I hope Jose pushes for that.

Roughly the same amount of times he said exactly the opposite.

we've been truly going from hand to mouth for the last 20 years.. graham, gross et.. getting AVB fucked over, to being shambolic spurs under sherwood..

no matter what else, Poch made us strong enough that teams were afraid to play us and took us into the CL final .. the fact the it ended sadly is down to Poch, Levy & the players.. all of them .. they could have worked this out in a way to make him our Ferguson ..

together they fucked it up

Pochettino makes incredible Woodward demand after giving Man Utd his word

Date published: Tuesday 14th January 2020 4:31

Manchester United managerial target Mauricio Pochettino is reported to have made one major demand of the club ahead of what’s been described as his likely appointment at the end of the season.

Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham in November after a poor start to the season, just five months after leading the club to their first Champions League final.

However, the Argentine remains very much a man in demand and continues to be linked with the United hot-seat, while he was even mentioned as a contender for the Barcelona job ahead of their decision to go with Quique Setien as Ernesto Valverde’s replacement.

But it is links with United that remain most prevalent, amid claims the Red Devils could show Solskjaer the door if they fail to qualify for the Champions League again next season.

As such, talkSPORT journalist Phil Brown claims that United have held secret discussions with Pochettino about taking over at the end of the season. Furthermore, it’s claimed the Argentine has given United a certain guarantee he’ll take charge – but not until the end of the season.

“What I’ve been told is United have been talking with Pochettino for a few weeks now,” Brown said. “But he doesn’t want the job until the end of the season.”

Solskjaer appears to have overcome a rocky autumn to get back on track with United, though much of his future in the role will depend on how the rest of the season pans out and despite claims senior United stars had pleaded with the club’s owners not to show the Norwegian the door.

However, Brown is adamant Pochettino has been approached and talks have been held.

“I’ve been told by someone who would know, who I trust 100 per cent and who has given me stuff in the past and been bang on so is clearly informed,” he insisted. “They’ve been talking to Pochettino for a few weeks but most likely if anything happens it’ll be at the end of the season.”

Brown also sensationally claimed that he’s been informed that Pochettino has told United he will only take the job if much-maligned executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is taken off all football and transfer matters at Old Trafford.

“He doesn’t want the job until certain requirements have been met,” Brown commented in reference to the polarised figure that is Woodward.

And Brown said on his Beyond the Pitch podcast: “Pochettino doesn’t have an agent, Ed Woodward can’t be seen to be talking to Pochettino in public, so they designated an individual who will mediate.

“I can’t say who that individual is. He doesn’t want the job until the summer.

“He demands a director of football guaranteed and the director of football cannot be Ed Woodward.

“He wants full freedom of first-team matters, including who can be sold. (He) wants Ed Woodward to step away from anything football at all and funds to be made available for purchases.”

Pochettino is yet to comment on the latest speculation linking him to United but did state before Christmas that he was “open” to offers.

“When I say I am open, I am open. I cannot say that I am open but I’m closed to someone,” Pochettino said. “It’s different if you receive an approach and you listen and say yes or no. That’s different.

“But you can’t say that I’m open but on that I am not open. You are open and then you are open. Anything can happen.

“When I say I am open, I am open to listen to any club.”

So Woodward's offered him the job, but he'll only take it on the condition that Woodward fucks off.
Hmmmn.

I think the article is nonsense but the longer Poch is out of the game the more likely he ends up at Utd for me. Let's hope PSG and Real sack managers this summer.

It appears that Poch has learnt his lesson after being totally let down by Levy dealings in the transfer market. To play the way that Poch wants you need to be continually refreshing the side with quality young players ( like Liverpool have done) and selling the older players at the right time otherwise you end up with a knackered side that we have now. Levy inabilities to sign and sell players like Grealish Maddison and the rest has ruined all the good work Poch has done and I suspect he sees Woodward as being similar and as incompetent in transfer dealings as Levy. We need a director of football who is given a budget and allowed to get on with it and Levy should not be allowed any where near football matters just dealing with the business side in which he excels. I’m also afraid that anyone who thinks the current manager will improve the team is living in cloud cuckoo land as he has always needed fortunes to build a team and one thing is certain he won’t get that here. If Poch goes to Utd and gets support from the board you will see what an almighty clanger this club has made in letting him go.
