Sessegnon on the wing would’ve been much better than Gedson. And we had Ndombele on the bench who could create chances

you don’t always need to have a attacking player to make changes in attack
Yea sessengon could’ve worked to be fair but he’s not in the same attacking class as dele and Lucas would’ve been. And the way the game was going we needed Pace and Ndombele could’ve been ok but wasn’t really what we needed at that moment imo.

It's a little bit worrying to be honest. I'm all for trying new things and failing initially but I'm yet to see little other than to sit back and counter. I just think we have to try and control some games more, win the general midfield battle and create some sustained pressure throughout games. It's not that it's because we were playing United or it's our first game back, we were doing the same against the likes of bottom of the table Norwich too. We're willingly conceding possession irrespective of the level of opposition. It's something that I think can be a good tactic in some games, like maybe tough away games but every single game?

Really need to see more encouraging signs that we're moving in the right direction with the football we're trying to play.

I don't think the tactics were that wrong, I know it's boring and anti "to dare is to do", but other than the soft pen I can't think of many clear cut chances they had

Really is so depressing. We spent all that time building up an identity under poch as the borussia dortmund of England. A club who plays on the front foot, is the protagonist and wants to play on the opposition's half. To become this, not even defensive, middle of the road try to stay in the game until the last 15 minutes and see what happens nothingness.

His only strategy attacking wise is to hope one of your players does something individually brilliant.

I actually supported his appointment but others were right, it's a waste of everyone's time.

Still not doing it for me, and actually managing to kill what’s left of my passion for the game with his ‘sit deep and hope for the best’ philosophy.

Wake me up when we start playing football again.

You haven't got to worry to much as he won't be here that long.

We weren't exactly knocking at their door too often and i think second half we didn't get a shot on target

We stayed compact and pretty much stifled UTD to half chances, most of the time as a result of one of our own errors. I'm sorry that some of you wanted to see us bombing forward and getting screwed on the counter. Even the commentators noted that UTD have always struggled to break teams down that ask them to. Even the bigger teams have sat off them at times because they fear Rashford and Martial's pace in behind.

The long ball needs to change, but Sissoko and Winks barely found any space to make options for our defenders to pass to. Honestly though, if Lamela had not dallied on the ball on a couple of occassions and had Kane been fully fit, we'd have had the second goal.

I'm actually rather optimistic.

Thought we were much more tactically in tune today and I think had we had Lo Celso from the start and Lucas/Alli as well as a sharper Kane / Son we'd have won that.

You can see the plan, defend your zones, drop when we lose the ball to deny the space and get that middle block in as quickly as possible.

In possession, I could definitely see a better pattern of play and movement. The problem was certain players were so rusty with the ball, that it broke down to early but there was numerous occasions in which we made three of four incisive passes only for the key pass to be over hit or the player making it have a bad first touch.

It's coming. Although I expect us to be more offensive against West Ham

This is Jose’s pre season, the guy took over an absolute mess of a squad, totally broken. Dude deserves a fresh season, his CV demands it actually.

The best comment so far.

Mourinhos insipid brand of defensive football with poor results was utterly predictable. I just wonder how long people will say he needs more time.

For me, evidence that Jose's message beginning to land with the players tonight. Looked well drilled and for the most part everybody did their job. Unlucky to not get the points tonight. I'm optimistic.

It’s like watching a team with its hands tied together. Same shit, unfortunately the break has ruined any chance of a managerial change it feels :(
I agree with this. It's unlikely he'd have been sacked either way, but the shit we were playing before lockdown offered some solid justification for it. Certainly applied the needed pressure to evaluate whether he's the right man for the job. As things have turned out, he's going to be boring the pants off us all for many a game to come regardless of the end to this horrid season.
