I have no doubt Edouard is excellent, and perhaps he’ll prove to be a miss for us, but if this is the guy we’ve identified, I just don’t get how anyone in this thread based on the limited information we have available (YouTube and an excellent set of recent stats) can be displeased. It’s not like we’re asking Super Pav to leave his boots up.
For every Drogba there's ten or twenty Michus, Pukkis, or Belottis. I'm not writing him off entirely but I don't think it's unreasonable to be concerned over a player who'd done the square root of fuck all until his mid twenties and then had 18 months' worth of decent form.I’m summer 2004 Chelsea signed Jose’s first choice striker, a big, powerful, athletic 24 year old Ivorian who had done the square root of fuck all most of his career, then out of nowhere scored at a rate of 1 in 2 in Ligue Un for two consecutive seasons, first for unfancied Guingamp, then for the far bigger Marseille. Chelsea fans had barely heard of him and knew little what to expect.
In summer 2020, Spurs are looking to sign Jose’s first choice striker, a big, powerful, athletic 25 year old Brazilian who had done the square root of fuck all most of his career, then out of nowhere scored at a rate of 1 in 2 in Primeira Liga for two consecutive seasons, first for unfancied Rio Ave, then for the far bigger Benfica. Spurs fans had barely heard of him and knew little what to expect, but somehow were able to roundly write him off as he’d not hit the heights of the SPL or Austrian Bundesliga.
I doubt, like most in this thread, he knows much about him at all.

Imagine what people would think about 99% of our team if they went on what we post in here!Just spent half an hour skimming through his player thread on a Benfica forum. Doesn't make for the most exciting of reading. The consensus on him as you skip through the months seems to be:
-Mendes mugged them off when they paid €17m for him.
-He's the poorest striker they've had in the last 10 years or so, a couple of people rating him on a similar level to Mitroglou.
-A load of posts saying he's dreadful with his head/in the air.
-After a run of goalscoring, more people start to come round to him, others saying he isn't involved enough in the overall game.
-He was awful following the league restart.
-A load of people suddenly saying he deserves the golden boot and hoping he gets it.
-They'd jump for joy if he was sold for the reported €50m, they could replace him for 1/4 of that.
-Quite a few comments saying the whole team was poor this season and he's a victim of that. He'd look a lot better if he had played in previous Benfica teams.
So doesn't generally sound like they view him as a superstar. However, I was skipping through quickly, using Google Translate, and I'm assuming a fair few negative comments would have come during or after a poor match, and we all know well how knee jerky football forums get following a negative result.
Make of that what you will. The link for anyone else with too much time on their hands today.
Also, the level of disdain they have for Mendes seems universal, and was quite amusing.
Underwhelming to say the least, how many of the big boys have chased this guy?? and no caps for his country....surely we can do better!. Personally wanted Daka or the Celtic boy, explosive talents.

It always makes me laugh on here when we get linked to players like this guy and some posters have really strong opinions one way or the other.
Guys on here must have a lot of time on their hands to watch matches from all the leagues around the world

Paying the most expensive ticket prices has nothing to do the same people don't know who he is or they aren't excited. Carlos Vinicius would improve our team, and is in the same bracket of Edouard or Daka but he is underwhelming while those 2 are very very excitingAnd posts like yours and @Trix ’s make me laugh too! You can’t blame the people who pay the most expensive ticket prices in Europe for wanting a recognised talent that would improve the very team they spend thousands following. Stop being so bloody patronising. People are entitled to feel how they feel, and football is an emotional topic for all of us - why else would we be on a fan forum tracking rumours if it wasn’t?
This kid could be a hit or a flop, or somewhere in between - we have no idea. You can’t blame fans for wanting a more established or exciting name.
?
He's probably the most expensive we've been linked with so far. I'm not sure how people are viewing this as a 5th choice after ruling out all the others just because we managed to keep this one quiet for longer.
He has a nice name
This.My concern here is mostly about the price. If you told me this guy would cost 10-15M, I’d be pretty happy with it. That’s the bucket he falls into. Backup striker with limited upside but can certainly do a job.
You tell me we’ve got 40-50M to spend and this is where we want to drop it, I worry very much about how our club allocates its resources. Doesn’t feel like the right level player if we’ve got that much to spend.
You tell me it’s a loan with reasonable option (or long enough term) and it starts to sound much much better.
Obviously regardless if he’s the one I’ll support him the minute he pulls the shirt on and hope he’s Jimenez mark 2

He's going to be more expensive than Daka or Edouard?
Fucking hell.
