If Levy is already using his Kane heroics to wrestle back some of that power he yielded in the ESL debacle then that's a lot sooner than I thought.

Always assumed FP would get at least a two windows of Levy locking his wounds before he faces being undermined. Isn't it the case that FP works freely within the parameters agreed with Levy?

If this is true and things escalate to the point FP resigns, how does Levy recover from that? Getting someone like FP in the first place is already a huge recalibration.

Just spitballing here, but could this be Hitch and Romario's daddy trying to extract last-minute concessions by applying pressure via The Goat rather than a full-blown Levy House Special?

We have upgraded the XI IMO - Romero is a upgrade on ageing Toby and Emerson in my eyes a definite upgrade on Aurier/Doherty. Skipp seems have solved CM problem for now.

We have certainly addressed the issues of XI but have failed AGAIN in addressing the need for a balanced squad.

Only one Spurs man will be happy if we dont bring in another forward today - thats Scarlett. What a brilliant opportunity awaits him this season, especially given Parrott is also out on loan. Its for him to take the opportunity now.

The context of JJ’s post hasn’t really been explained
has it?

He was asked “if we announce Emerson early does that mean it’s that’s all folks?”

JJ replied “TAF”

Have we announced Emerson yet???

Seeing as we're the slowest club known to man when it comes to announcements, we'll be waiting a while...

Glad we're keeping Bergwijn but feel we need another attacker. Hoping something changes regarding Adama but incredibly doubtful

Seems like the cash injection was possibly the stadium naming rights deal linked to Kane going to City, the sports washing one that caused furor. With Kane staying it would affect that long term cash.

Loving some of the comments that are along the lines of 'we had a good window' which tacitly condone Levy's interference. Some people are missing the point:

If he interferes this time, he'll interfere next time, and the time after that, and the time after that. So why hire a DoF in the first place? What's the point? Why have two experienced football people in charge of recruitment if you're not going to let them do their jobs? Jobs that you pay them to do?

It's what he does, it's what he's always done, it's what he will always continue to do. It's not condoning it, it's just accepting its in his DNA and it isnt going to change and believeing any noise that contradicts that is an exercise in self-flagellation

As for why hire in the first place. 2 reason. 1) to do all the legwork, 2) Batfink: My wings are like a shield of steel.

So when people complain early they're told to wait until it's over, one it's effectively over they're told it's not the time to gloat?

For the record, I've got all my "I told you so" posts lined up ready to go :p
There’s a way to do it as well you know. Happy to be wrong once the curtain closes.

How much is that in REAL numbers? Removing all the obligation stuff which will be funded from future income.

These are the numbers I have tracked... (assumes Emerson signs).
  • Obviously all fees are typically paid over the duration of the players' contracts.
  • Gollini and Romero are obligation to buy next summer.
  • Wouldn't be surprised if the deal with Metz for Sarr does not start until next summer either.

So potentially we have only paid the first 1/4 or 1/5 of the Gil and Emerson fees (assuming he signs) this summer.

But, worth saying constantly buying against tomorrow's income is a good way to go bust so I hope someone (and we all know it is Levy) is keeping track of what we're committing to.

I agree with the what’s the point thing but how can he not interfere he’s the chairman. He holds the purse strings, he signs the cheques so he’s always going to be interfering just as any other chairman interferes.

I guess they could operate whereby Levy gives him a budget and says “do whatever you want with this amount” but even then it would be Levy setting the budget so he’s interfering

This is why I don’t really see the point. I guess a big part of their remit is to identity talent and liaise with other clubs chairman and negotiate, these are all good things to keep Levy away from I guess but ultimately he’s the one calling the shots coz he has final say on the money.

6.5 is generous imo.

I would give 7/10.
We have seen 2 windows with no signing - this window we are addressing the need of the XI certainly. And also planned for need of the future in Gil & Sarr. Only thing we failed to do again is that one striker option upfront. Considering Kane, Son stays - I have more reason to be optimistic than being negative.

What's the point of having the best stadium if we don't play with the best opponents? The means Champions League. Honest to god, Levy really does strike me as delusional sometimes. The business we have done this window is great, but we need a creative player, the last three games have shown us that. If we don't secure a player of that ilk, we will struggle. The table does not tell us the whole story.

It will take much more than Adama Traore to get to the Champions League this season. Chelsea, City and Liverpool are all a level above us. That leaves one place for United, Leicester, West Ham or us.

I'd say I can easily imagine a United meltdown. Their unbalanced squad and plenty of egos that would now be required to work for Ronaldo is a perfect recipe for a disaster.

But they still have enough potential and fire power to get the job done.

It took us 5 years to get to the Champions League after our Gareth Bale run.

We had to rebuild the whole team, including selling the most important asset, and go through 3 new managers - AVB, Sherwood and Pochettino.

We're now 2 years after our CL final appearance. The most important cogs in the Pochettino machine - Walker, Toby, Jan, Dembele, Eriksen and Kane - are mostly gone. And the last one - Kane - wants out.

After our 2nd place finish below Chelsea in 2017, we've finished 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th. We're regressing.

It's very rare in football to see a sudden progress in a team that's been regressing for four years now.

I think the anti-Levy stance is an easy one to take when it comes to transfer windows.

Deals are complicated, so it's quite easy to assume that more often than not, they won't happen.

So, I suppose, that when an opportunity to "I told you so" or "FFS Levy" or "Bald ****" or "LEvY oUt!1" arises, one can spout this rhetoric with a lot of confidence simply due to the nature of a transfer window knowing that the probability of everything turning out exactly how everyone wants is so low.

We've done a fair bit of business this window. Yes, there are some areas that need some attention, but we simply do not know what has happened to some of these deals and if you were sitting in the directors chair, having all the information to hand, you might be a bit reluctant to pull the trigger on them, also.

I've barely skimmed this thread over the last couple of days because the amount of overreactionary nonsense seems to have peaked and it's just so tiring to read comments that are so far on one side of the argument, that it's difficult to take them seriously anymore. At least have some balance or consider that there are myriad factors involved that might usurp the fantasy transfer window you have in your head.

Honestly, I'm surprised we have done the business WE HAVE. I was expecting perhaps a couple of signings whilst we sort out all the nonsense going on behind the scenes, getting to grips with a new system, manager etc and then making some proper moves next summer.

But then again, that's a longer term outlook, so with the seemingly increasing need of society to have everything instantaneously and on demand nowadays, I probably shouldn't be shocked at the reaction.

How is this being spun as "interference" by Levy? As the top man, surely he signs off on all financial decisions?

Those questioning why we've signed another RB over attacking options..... From what others are saying, this will become apparent in the coming weeks. Probably a pivotal signing long term.
New contract for Harry?

Re the Japanese lad v Emerson. I sit here and ponder whether it was a financial decision v a football one. The Barcelona fire sale offering better terms than the Japanese lad @ Bologna

We still have 3 open spots for Non-HG players. I'm confused as to why we can't secure loans for a creative CM/AM and ST.
