A good window with five solid pieces of business.
The shifting out of Dele, Lo Celso and Ndombele is what we've all been calling for and to manage all three is damn good business.
Bryan Gil's loan will hopefully do him good and I am certain he remains in our future plans.
It's never easy to get the players you want in January but we've brought in two that do improve us and we've not panicked and bought in anyone that doesn't just for the sake of it.
Would have liked to address the positions we know are a priority but again were they available? There's no point bringing in a RWB if Emerson and Doherty are better, good strikers aren't two a penny and remember we've already got one of the best so better to keep our powder dry, we did try at least.
Are we in better shape now? Yes I think so, I certainly believe Conte thinks so which is pretty crucial bearing in mind how many people thought he'd walk away five days ago.
There will be people with unrealistic expectations who won't be satisfied, some people always want more or want a particular player and will point to who we didn't get but they'll always be there.
I'm more optimistic and looking forward to see what Dejan and Rodders will bring to the party, hopefully a top four place.
All in all a good window.
Big shout out to @Hercules @Hotspur88 and @Trix for great ITK and all the staff for bearing with us and keeping the wild ride going.
Cheers to all.
Very good reflection on our business this window.

By far the biggest plus for me was Hugo signing a new contract. Not only a plus for this window but for our summer window too. One less first teamer to worry about. Gives us time to concentrate on his replacement.

Whilst the dead wood has all been moved the biggest plus is Alli being sold rather than loaned, sad as it is of the three he is the one that I do not think will be able to lift himself to anywhere near the levels he had. The two others will be playing in leagues that suit them and hopefully mean they never return to wear the Lilly White shirt.

Trusting in a bit of luck on the injury front (we deserve some) otherwise we will struggle.

A good start and I hope the management team get early summer signings to prevent the media scum trying to move Conte to united. Keeping Conte happy is key to next season.

A big thanks to all those at at SC and our loved itker’s. You all help brighten our dull lives?. Also thanks for sorting the transfer thread last week. It became insufferable and I hope it is never allowed to return to the state it became.

Thanks to the ITKs ? for passing on what they could. Have to be brave to do so, even more so in the January window which seems to always be more opportunistic rather than something you can genuinely plan for. Hence I can only imagine what’s passed on can change so rapidly and only a handful of the closest parties can truly know what’s happening real-time.

The window was a success in the sense in that we replaced 3 senior players who were not going to play with 2 who will - however we still have the key positions of RWB and striker yet to be resolved. Yes the summer window is perhaps the time to do this but I would urge caution. Yes there are lots of players coming to the end/finishing their contracts BUT they will all need to be replaced by their clubs and guess whats the first place they are going to look - players with 12 months left and those leaving on frees - there is going to be massive competition for this group.

It’s not just us that need the summer window to fill positions - Arse could well be in the market for 3 strikers - West Ham need players and Man U will almost certainly need another forward. Citeh Liverpool and Chelsea will always strengthen and then you have the new money of Newcastle and Villa. End of the season will see the return of Ndom and Gio so the wage bill becomes an issue again. Summer is not going to be easy…..

Am I right in thinking that with what we are paying for the two in and what we are, eventually, being paid for the three out we have made a profit? Fabio just cemented his reputation with the little guy.?

I'm still giving it B+

Very difficult to refurnish your house while all the old knackered furniture is still in there.

Things are a bit clearer now.

Finally the start of the painful rebuild.

Dele (for the last two seasons), Gio and Ndombele failed to deliver and none of them had an upturn in form under Jose or Conte so the time was right to get rid of them.

The Juve lads look like very sensible signings when you consider some of the shite we’ve wasted money on in the last few years.

It feels like the start of a new chapter now and there’s a real chance for some of our youth to make an impact in the next six months to see if they’re good enough.

Think we'll all be very surprised how good these 2 additions are.

Bentancur looks an extremely tidy player all round. Technically good. Good passing, positioning, can tackle and also hold the ball well and dictate play. Which is basically a complete version of Skipp, Winks and PEH all in one.

Kulu really excites me as he seems extremely intelligent with how he uses the ball. His weight of pass and timing looks really good. On par with Kane from what I've seen. Something only N'Dombele possessed beforehand and something we have massively missed since Eriksen. I like the way he plays on the right as a left footer and drifts inside to shoot or play a through ball. Very reminiscent of Eriksen and Krancar when they played on the left and even Modric in his earlier days.

Very excited to see them in a spurs shirt.

For someone who's old enough to remember when we regularly signed the best available it's always hard to accept where we are now in the pecking order ,have absolutely no problem with the outgoings and hopefully the 2 Juve lads hit the ground running and improve us,meanwhile I've had to endure Fatty Samuel sticking the boot in as usual in the Mail this morning.
6.5 here.

Overall I think we were 1 signing away from a very good window.

Shifting nDombele, Lo Celso and Dele is key but Gil leaving on loan leaves us a little light. Kulu and Bentancur are solid signings. For me Bentancur walks into our midfield while Kulu gives Lucas competition and offers a different skillset.

One concern I have is the impact Dele leaving will have on the squad. Big player and personality and much like it hurts us as fans there is no doubt it will impact the team and the relationships he has built up (ie Son, Dier, Kane etc)

I think what's evident is that Conte knows exactly what he wants for his system which is refreshing and it looks like Paratici has been given the freedom to go make it happen. Looking forward to the next window and with the outs done this Jan I can see some early business done in the summer ;)

I don't think it's reasonable to expect anything for a January window. Yet, we managed to get two exciting players in and shift some out. Even though we didn't manage to address some of our weaknesses, I'd still say that amounts to a successful window.

The much-needed rebuild is now well underway! ?

Don't forget we will have Sarr coming to the club for the first time in the summer too.

You think?

I reckon he'll be going out on loan again, to develop him further.

It depends on the CM transfer options in the summer, but I could see Conte preferring a seasoned pro to add to his CM options, rather than a developing youngster.

If a player with similar skills to Bentancur or like Nahitan Nández, or even Franck Kessie, was available on a free, or under £25m, that would equate to reliability at the right price.

Obviously it depends on how Sarr develops, our transfer budget and who's available, but I wouldn't be so certain that he'll be with us in 22/23.

Btw, that goes for Gil as well.

On paper the window looks good bearing in mind the low contribution of the outgoing 4, but we aren't really going to know until we see the Juve 2 on the pitch and how they adapt to the league and Conte's system. I'm hopeful about both players but know bugger all about them so not going to pretend otherwise!

A few grumbles about "pushing for top 4" but there is literally no signing that can guarantee that. Our likely main rivals for 4th failed to strengthen whilst we potentially have, so I don't think it's been an opportunity missed. Some of the people who are complaining are those who complain about everything no matter what so that tells a story. On the plus side, my forum ignore list had a pretty good window with some long overdue additions.

Paul Merson made himself look like a tit on deadline day. Always a bonus.

I think the true winner of the window was our own @Nine while nine with a lightning fast solve of the Ousmane cryptic. Take a bow sir.
"A single net change, you'll never sing that"

Massive thanks to the ITKs and the SC team.

This (and many other) windows illustrate again how difficult it is to operate in the market. You can identify targets but, if they are half-decent, inevitably other clubs start sniffing around and the best-laid plans fall apart.

My big hope for the summer is that we conduct our business early and decisively.

In an ideal world, the next deadline day will be mind-numbingly boring as our squad will already be settled.

We know how much work there is to be done but I’m happy with the first steps.
the most important thing is the feeling that we have a plan

Re FP deals ,To be fair Romero and Emerson are decent additions to the squad also.
Romero was a loan to buy from Juventus / Atalanta so he hasn't gone outside on his comfort / familarity zone there, which leaves Emerson Royal, and we all know that he's not exactly been a success as far as Conte is concerned, which is why we're after a new RWB so soon, so my overall observation still stands, he has yet to properly prove himself in the transfer market, but as its early days I'm not gonna judge him too quickly yet and will wait to see what he delivers in this summer's transfer window.

For me the best thing about this transfer window was the total absence of any media chat about Kane and City. Hope that we have finally put that all to bed and we won't hear about it again.
I also think that just getting two new players into the squad is the right number for integrating new players into a team. Anymore than two can disturb the dynamics of the existing squad.
