Trying to be the eternal optimistic, might be good to refresh side having Skipp and Papa Sarr in middle hungry for game time?

At least for ordinary teams this would, we shall wait and see as it’s spurs we’re talking about here! ??

can imagine we'll do the dear-in-the-headlights tactic of making them look absolutely class by conceding possession, pissing around at the back with no outlets and demonstrating a general lack of fight/urgency.

Final 15mins, when we try and do something, might be interesting though.

(the above sums-up my feelings about Conte-ball and this squad)

Not really looking forward to this tonight. Could be a Valentine's Day massacre. With Bents out, we now don't have a defence or a midfield for the rest of the season. The mis-management of our squad really is pathetic.

I have a bad feeling Richy comes into the side for Kulusevski tonight. Hoping he takes Son's spot instead.

A draw would be a terrific result. Even a 2-1 defeat wouldn't be too bad. Just want to avoid a shellacking tbh. Always nervous of Giroud, a hugely underrated player imo.

Ive seen this a few times across various message boards. Away goals are no longer a thing in terms of aggregate scores.

I saw some of their matches a couple of weeks ago when they lost 4-0 away to Lazio and the 5-2 defeat at home to Sassulo. They were awful and looked a team without any confidence. If we go at them from the off, as we can if we want to, then I see us 2 up by half time. If we play our usual game of sitting back then the longer the game goes on the more confident they will become and we could lose it. It's going to be a tactical game and I'll be very interested to see what Conte's are.

Surprised how many people are suggesting they might not watch this. With the inevitable revival of Chelsea and Liverpool, and Newcastle getting stronger as the transfer windows pass this might be one of our final CL away days for some time. Just enjoy it and get behind the team.

It'll be a challenging match but there are young players in a position on our side to 'step up' and play well with our more established players. A decent draw would be an achievement for us in the circumstances.

Yeah I’m not confident about this game at all.
Hopefully Romero & Emerson make us more defensively solid, but the midfield battle is crucial.
Conte has to freshen something up going forward !

The prospect of listening to Jake Humphrey is a challenge mind

Completely agree with you mate. Although I don't think we're going to be surprised at how Conte approaches this match given his track record. ? I think you've got it nailed with 'sit back and do nothing until we go behind then realise we've got to try to score'. But we live in hope!

I really fancy us to come away with something positive. Can see a 1-1 draw to take back.

Can't muster any sort of confidence for this one, or indeed any game at the moment

Hope we get a draw or at least leave ourselves a chance in the second leg

Maybe playing for a draw will work for us considering that's how we approach every game under Conte anyway

Skip and Sarr our midfield dynamos isn't going to cut it I'm afraid. I'm not saying they aren't any good but they are our fourth and fifth choices playing together for the first time ever so anyone expecting great things is fooling themselves. I'm hoping for a solid effort from them and that we can hold on for a result, any result even 0-0 would be a success.
Sad thing is a week ago I genuinely thought we'd take them comfortably so hopefully the rest of the players can play to their best level and cover our losses.
Sorry if people think I'm being pessimistic I'm not I'm being realistic and we need to manage our expectations, its no good people coming on here screaming blue murder like they've been betrayed if we don't get the win so just balls up and get behind the players that are out there.

COYS!
They played together against Preston... but, well, that was Preston. I know Skipp has it in him; he was excellent last year before his injury, but I don't think he's been given enough minutes to find his form. Conte's lack of rotation has not only cost us Bentancur, but has left our backups without sufficient experience. That said, Sarr looked okay against Arsenal so hopefully the two youngsters can raise their game for the occassion.

Last game Skipp came on for an extended period I thought he was excellent (then has been given zero minutes since...)

Just hope they both go in with confidence and aren't overawed.

Keep thinking this is the most nailed on 0-0 draw I've ever seen then I remember how poor we were defensively at the weekend. Which makes me even more convinced Conte will want Sarr & Skipp to help pack out the defence.

My record at predictions is shocking though so no doubt it'll be an eight goal thriller for the ages
