I wouldn't be against Kompany at all. There are some good options out there to change us from a boring anti possession team into something exciting to watch, and if Kompany, Slot, Postecoglou, Gallardo or whoever can do that I'm happy. Out of that list, Kompany has a whole load of EPL experience over all of the others so I see that as a positive. People are worried about him jumping ship to go to City, but isn't Arteta way ahead of him in that queue?

Well, its very hard to see the similarity of this comparison...EXCEPT the fact being they were big name players.
What decent signings Kompany had, we could name start of season ?

And Keane won a tight league in 2006/07, where gap between his 1st placed Sunderland & 10th placed Colchester is 19pts. With just 40 games played, the same 19points is the gap between Burnley & 3rd placed Boro this season...and only Boro has already played 2 games extra
Players like Irish international josh Cullen, 11m Lyle Foster amongst others. Burnley might be a basket case financially but they spent good money during both transfer windows and brought in more players than Sunderland did in that season.

As said in original post I'm not against Kompany but would be very surprised if Levy did appoint him as it's a massive gamble.

I’m up for this, his speech above doesn’t make me cringe, listen to Brendan talk or Arteta turning his lightbulb on and off… different type of bloke

It's a risk but I think it's astute, plays good footbal, knows Pep's way inside out, loads to prove himself despite being a name. Won’t think he's too good for them club. Knows our Belgian lads, coached by Jol.

If you’re any kind of flair player on our books you will want to at least look at being coached by him, fresh chances for a lot of our lads will come easier under him I imagine.

Get it done.

Arteta never played for City and won trophies as a player with gooners. He’s loyalty is with them, not city

Quite like the idea of Kompany. As was mentioned above - they’ll be a lot of players looking over their shoulders.. as to the jumping ship argument: along way off; plus, it’s no different to us being the ship he’s jumped to from Burnley - if he comes

Going for someone like Kompany is a huge repudiation of the 3-4 years of Jose of Nuno and of Conte. 3-4 years totally wasted.

Couldn’t get a more different way of playing. Our whole scouting and team structure will need to be updated particularly the requirement for good ball playing attacking midfielders although our other targets like Slot also lead us down this path.

This is going to be the case whoever we sign. We have wasted 3-4 years, and there's no point continuing it.

Or he’d transform him to the player he was last season…
Hope so but have my doubts he can improve much more partly due to his age and his technical ability. Also if Conte and Mourinho both couldn't improve him i have my doubts.
I think it's time for a change and a new defender and goalkeeper.

Is all this Kompany talk stemming from one tweet or has there been some actual ITK shared?

This seems so far from the type of appointment Levy would make, when you look at recent ones, that I wonder how much Munn might have pushed for VK in their conversations they must have had before announcing Munn as Football Director of Operations..you would think Munn would be the guy who makes the decision as he is in charge of all football decisions...

Anyone know much about his time at anderlect? Did he outperform expectations like with burnly?
Yes. They went into a bit of a tailspin in 2017/18 with some financial issues. VK steadied the ship, instilled his style, got them on an uphill trajectory and achieved their best league finish since 17/18 - 4th, followed by 3rd the year after. Confident that would have been improved on again if he'd stayed.

I think people still hear the name Anderlecht and imagine they walk the league every year. But they forget the modern emergence of Brugge and liege are always quite strong.

As for Burnley, it's hard to imagine a manager transforming a club's style of play so dramatically and so quickly. Players you'd have said couldn't do anything other than tackle, head and play long balls are suddenly playing like Man City.

That's before you even think about VK's personality traits and ability to "throw his medals on the table" if any player ever thought about not respecting him.

People who say he is too close in age to current players really aren't acknowledging the trend in modern football.

The Arteta analogy doesn’t work here. Sure he managed under Pep at Man City but he has no connection to the club. In fact he was a player at Arsenal and has a real connection to them.

Kompany on the other hand is constantly gushing about how much he loves City and how he’d dream of managing them one day, and he has fuck all connection with us unlike Arteta to Arse.

I’m not afraid of hiring him if he is truly the best candidate… but given the laundry list of successful and qualified candidates, is it a good idea to hire a guy whose heart, head and future is clearly elsewhere? Every summer we’d have to deal with rumours of him leaving. It just doesn’t feel very “leader of a new football project” to me, not the way other managers do.

Valid points. But Arteta would IMO also be off in a shot if Citeh came calling.

Would like us to get the best manager we can, and not worry about what may happen if he is successful.

Totally agree with this. People spent so long worrying about Poch leaving when he was at his peak with us.
