Seems bizarre we'd appoint Kompany. Kinda like hiring Frank the plank immediately after Derby, or Stevie G after Rangers. Kompany may be head and shoulders better than those two, but he's gonna need time to show it.

And why would he leave Burnley after such a successful season? Why not see if he can keep it up at a dramatically higher level.
I agree there's an element of that, but Fat Frank finished 6th with some really talented loan players (Mount, Tomori, Wilson) and scraped through the play-offs. Gerrard did well at Rangers but it was widely reported Michael Beale was the brains behind that operation and the style of football was pretty pragmatic. It was when Beale left that Villa properly fell apart.

Kompany obviously would be a punt, but I think he's defo the most promising of the 3 based on the style of football and what he's done with a Burnley squad tipped to struggle this season.

Just watched a few videos.

So Kompany likes his full backs to be able to be a third centre back and or be able to play next to the centre midfielders. Totally unsuited to our two very expensive new wingbacks.

Yeah I know in theory they could be converted but we have just brought one for 40 million! Surely at that stage we had a hunch Conte was doing the off?

JN is a waste of time IMO. I don’t get the sense that he wants to come here at all.

I reckon it’s between Slot, VK and Poch.
I don't agree.

I get the feeling that he wanted a break and see where he was in the summer which is exactly what he's doing.

Sure the Chavs maybe first choice right now but I get the impression that their summer is going to make the January window look organised.

We have a lot to offer and should go for our first choice candidate.

Why would Poch be in the running when every single indication from all the ITKs and reliable journos is that the people at the top don't want him back.

Yeah, I don't think hes on the list either.

I think we want someone in place ASAP and Nagelsmann will want to wait to see what happens elsewhere. Cant be waiting and then having to appoint a coach late June.

In thr meantime, Kompany will likely not want to wait and commit to Burnley next season. Slot has other PL clubs after him etc

I'm really, really surprised Kompany is being so well received on here. It's impossible for us to judge his Anderlecht performance just by looking at stats because there was a lot of upheaval there but the view from Belgium at the time was that he did quite an underwhelming job. So we'd be appointing a guy who has one good season under his belt, and not even in a top league. This is very similar to when Gerrard was leading a poll here to be our manager a couple of years ago before he got a Premier League chance and was found out.

I understand we can't just appoint proven winners but some experience at this level should surely be a requisite qualification.

Seems the only criteria you need to be the next spurs manager in here is play attacking, progressive football.

I would prefer more experience, JN or Slot for me.

If it is Kompany Levy will have to be prepared to give him time like Arsenal did with Arteta. Their fans were screaming for him to be sacked right up to the end of last season but the board stuck with him. I'm not sure Levy has it in him.

Never, EVER assume that this club has a plan that lasts for any more than about 1 month on the football side of things mate,.

More likely Ange than JN? I haven’t been through the thread this week, so I might have missed something though.
Ange, Slot, Kompany the final three.

If Kompany does well with us then we'll just be prepping him for the City job when Pep leaves
If so, he'd have to have done well enough to take one of the biggest jobs in world football. If we have 2 years of that level of success, it will be worth it, as the club will have turned around, imo.

In that speech to Burnley players, he talks about the speed and tempo of passing. That's one aspect of Spurs' play that is brain dead beyond belief over the last 3-4 years. Kompany would have his work cut out for him getting our lot to stop trundling the ball to each other or sloppily playing it in a way that isnt into the stride of the receiving player. When you think of the millions they are paid to coach and play, and we watch that shit every week.

So that's a point in favour of Kompany. But I reckon it's a riskier move than Poch, or even Rodgers. This burnley season is not enough. And he wouldn't be considered by anyone without this first big success at championship level.

Plus if the club actually turn things around and get a well-run, coherent footballing project going (probably won't happen tbf) then it shouldn't be too hard to pick a suitable replacement who has similar tactical ideas to Kompany.

If we are going purely off ITK then we were already told Slot and Postecoglou are our top two targets. So one would assume Kompany was added as a third man. If that is the case, which it might not be, then Slot would be my choice but I’m not particularly wild on that 3 man shortlist.

Just realised Trix says “a k pages”

(A)rne Slot
(A)nge Postecoglou
Vincent (K)ompany

This is from a Belgian fan on Reddit about his time at Anderlecht:

Oh it was absolutely a miracle. That entire club imploded while he was in charge (legal troubles, toxic players, previous owner vs current owner problems, scandals, financial problems, etc.). Yet he still managed 3rd place with probably the worst Anderlecht squad I have seen in my lifetime. Those who call his performance mediocre aren't in the know about Anderlecht's situation; they see a big club like Anderlecht and think 3rd was an average result...little do they know. Anderlecht was doing an Everton but Kompany turned it around and still managed 3rd place.

Kompany left and now Anderlecht is in 9th place, 20 points from 3rd. Anderlecht Director of Football said that Kompany leaving Anderlecht was the biggest disappointment of his career and Anderlecht fans are trying to get rid of the board for letting Kompany go.

Yes. But do you think he’d leave goons for them?
Yes. When their stadium is done and if they had an owner who would support him in the same way he has been supported over the past few seasons.

But the city job is one he'd take immediately. No manager in the world turns that down.

He's literally made not a single comment on his future. And anything attributed to him by sources has been that he's waiting until the summer. No indication whatsoever that he doesn't want to come.

What makes you think City will be calling for Kompany in the future when Arteta has just as much chance of getting the job there as well.
