I'm not condoning such behaviour but if he was ever called upon to play he could be booed to high heaven by those who would perceive him as stifling our rebuild.

He is holding out for a late loan move imo and then going on a free next summer. Clear he is not in the managers plans and when push comes to shove, the club will fold and send him out on loan and accept he is going on a free. He has no future under Postecoglou so best for all parties if he goes.

I wouldn’t put it beyond our fanbase considering the despicable behaviour they displayed towards Sanchez and Emerson last season.
It amazes me that people can even contemplate that, especially when we are doing well.
We need to ride this wave of positivity as long as possible, not try and sabotage ourselves at the first opportunity...

I don't think he'd get booed just because he is starting for us but he'd be horribly exposed in this system and with the inevitable mistakes he'd make in a high line and 1v1 situations, things could turn nasty quickly.

I think he'll go on a late loan. If he says no even to a loan move knowing he is free next summer, it doesn't put him in a great light imo.

This is, of course, the best option for him - which is why I don't believe the people saying "he doesn't want to leave".

All this will take to happen is for Levy to accept that he can't get a transfer fee. I suppose he could get a modest loan fee but the main thing is to get the wages covered.

I don't believe he has any intention of staying without the prospect of game time (however much he loves Sonny)

As said above, probably just holding out for a last minute loan to go on a free next year and maximize his earning potential, which is fair enough seeing as it's probably his last big contract.

I don't remember that we've ever allowed a player out on loan in their final year of their contract.

Doesn't make sense without an obligation to buy, or at least something conditional on the club signing him if they stay in league, he play's x amount of games etc.

Technically well within this right to run his contract down or whatever but he really doesn’t seem like a guy who’d want to not play for a whole year, surely he has to be looking for a loan minimum.

This is the problem with so much money in the game. Transfers primarily become about the contracts rather than the game.

I wonder if he wants to end his career at Sporting, but they can't afford to tel him on other than as a free next summer.

Yeah - mentioned this yesterday - Dier finds himself in the same situation Dawson did when Poch came in - long time servant of the club who did not fit the manager's tactics. The difference - Dawson was on low wages, and was shifted to Hull. Its much harder to find teams willing to take on the wages of our players today.

I genuinely hope he finds a team that suits him and his level.seems a decent bloke and doesn’t deserve the abuse that he is getting and will get if he plays.

It makes complete sense in relation to a player you don't want to sign a new contract and have no use for. We save something like £4m in wages. Of course a fee would be better, but at the moment he is just a burden for us. Far better to take the hit on a transfer fee and free up budget for someone we will use. We can obviously also ask for additional terms such as a success bonus from whatever team takes him as you say.

And if he is not chomping at the bit to go to a team like Fulham, where he can get PL games and then still be a free agent at the end of the season, then there is something wrong with him.

9pm on Friday with no prospect of a permanent deal being done, it's in the clubs best interest to send him out on loan and getting his wages off the book and accepting he is going on free next summer, especially bearing in mind he is totally unsuited to the the managers style of play. In fact him playing at CB could be catastrophic for our setup and Ange is not someone who is going to change the way we setup to incorporate one player.

Him staying really doesn't help anybody and I don't believe he'll be happy sitting around for a year twiddling his thumbs.

The thing is, it seems Sanchez is seen as 3rd choice as things stand and his pace makes him a better fit for Ange.

Well maybe if it was a player in isolation. Players that won’t play a large number of games this season that has one year left on the contract includes Dier, Hugo and Sanchez.

If any of Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Reguilion are not permanently sold this season we will be in the same position with them in a years time.
