I don’t like the hate for Dier. Ok he hasn’t been our most elite player and has a mistake in him but it feels the fan base always need a scapegoat or two. I remember an interview by Dier responding to the club being called Spursy - and the fact he didn’t like it, he’s always been a top professional and seems a top bloke too. I’m sure this summer or next he will be on his way and it’s a shame that the fan base can’t be a little more respectful and balanced in views. These are our players and this is our club, let’s get behind them

Did you used to have a ticket company ?

Dier says he doesn't care what people say on social media as he doesn't look. But he does care what his teammates and manager thinks. So knowing his manager hasn't picked him in the first 2 match day squads maybe he gets the hint that way

I wouldn’t have time for social media either, if I was with his missus!

It's an ego thing. I would imagine elite sports people have massive ego's, they back themselves to beat the competition. Losing your spot in a team you have been at for years is likely going to clash with that view you have of yourself. So you redouble your efforts to prove otherwise. No doubt some just admit defeat, but I doubt those still in their peak years do else they'd never have gotten to this level in the first place.

There will be some like N'Dombele who I have no doubt know they aren't going anywhere and will make the clubs life difficult. Then there are others like Dier and Hojbjerg, two senior pro's, international's and members of the players council thing. They will be wanting to play, wanting a chance to show their worth and prove they belong in the side.

can anyone think of a genuine negative in a 1 year loan swap with Tosin?

Both players keep their options open and both clubs get better players for their style

Only negative would be that we aren't signing a player on a perm who we know will be part of Ange's new project for a good few years to come which can lead to some uncertainty and not 100% buy-in from the player.

Also we have a load of cash so we don't really need to be doing loan swaps for what is still a key position that needs strengtherning.

Just sell Dier and buy a better 3rd CB and keep Sanchez as 4th CB and develop Philips as 5th CB, sorted.

why would he be happy to stay around when its clear his not in Ange's plans?
So that he can have a pick of clubs and signing bonuses next summer. I dont think he deserves the abuse he gets from spurs fans. A decent pro just not at the level we want. Hopefully something that interests him comes in this week otherwise loan him for a year and he gets his free next summer.

More time than not players back themselves to overcome the competition and win their place in the team. That is why they are elite sports people. They have been winning these kind of challenges their whole lives.

Agreed. I put my hands up as someone who has been harsh on him but really he isn't that bad at all. He didn't have a great last season but if he feels there is a good offer on the table I can see him moving on

According to sky sports online Fulham have made an inquiry into signing centre-back Eric Dier from Tottenham and believe he is an option for them ahead of the deadline.

Get to stay in London and compete for starts against an old American with a top knot rather than VDV and Romero. Sounds like a perfect move.

My guess would be he would like a return to Sporting and I'm guessing Sporting are pleading poverty/we're asking way too much/there's no trade option where we could do a player plus cash for one of theirs.
From watching that doco on him on spurs play I think his love for Sporting far outweighs doing us many favours, so if he can get a season on loan allowing Sporting to pick him up buck-shee that suits all parties except DL who probably wants £30 million for him!*

I love Eric as a person, I wish him well and hope he returns someday in a non playing capacity but half way through last season I was OK with him staying as 4th/5th choice but towards the end he became just someone else in a long list that we needed to move on; that he really doesn't suit how we play now just adds to it.

However he's never deserved the vitriol he gets (I may be guilty myself of going OTT in some match threads heat of the moment) but anything else is just silly and not on IMHO. He's one of numerous players sold up the river by DL's terrible managerial - playing squad mismatches. Also let down by crap midfield in front of them and a waning Hugo behind.

For all he may longer be at the level we require he's still an integral part of one of the best/feel good spells I've recalled since supporting the club. That we couldn't get a trophy/title by fluking one off our arse to set things rolling and DL totally kneecapping a foundation to build from will always piss me off far more than any mistakes Eric may have made.

This is the biggest thing for me. Yes he is no longer at the required level, partly due to injuries and his unfortunate illness, but he has always put in 100% been there for his teammates and has always spoke highly of us as a club. I think him going to Sporting would be fitting.

I must say I'm quite surprised by this. He's not been in the squad so far this season, there is no European football in terms of rotations, we've gone from a system that has suited him to a new one that doesn't.

He's turning 30 this season, and if he were to have a good season for a club like Everton or Fulham he has a chance of playing the Euros next summer.

He doesn't strike me as the personality type to sit on a one year deal for financial reasons. Also, with a poor last season and minimal playing time this season he's not likely in my opinion to get a massive deal in his thirties anyway.
