That would be pretty pathetic behaviour.I'm not condoning such behaviour but if he was ever called upon to play he could be booed to high heaven by those who would perceive him as stifling our rebuild.

It amazes me that people can even contemplate that, especially when we are doing well.I wouldn’t put it beyond our fanbase considering the despicable behaviour they displayed towards Sanchez and Emerson last season.

This is, of course, the best option for him - which is why I don't believe the people saying "he doesn't want to leave".He is holding out for a late loan move imo and then going on a free next summer. Clear he is not in the managers plans and when push comes to shove, the club will fold and send him out on loan and accept he is going on a free. He has no future under Postecoglou so best for all parties if he goes.
I don't remember that we've ever allowed a player out on loan in their final year of their contract. He is holding out for a late loan move imo and then going on a free next summer. I wonder if he wants to end his career at Sporting, but they can't afford to tel him on other than as a free next summer.I don't remember that we've ever allowed a player out on loan in their final year of their contract.
Doesn't make sense without an obligation to buy, or at least something conditional on the club signing him if they stay in league, he play's x amount of games etc.
I thought he left on pretty bad terms with them. He spoke out against contracts Portuguese clubs were using on young players.I wonder if he wants to end his career at Sporting, but they can't afford to tel him on other than as a free next summer.
This is the problem with so much money in the game. Transfers primarily become about the contracts rather than the game.
It makes complete sense in relation to a player you don't want to sign a new contract and have no use for. We save something like £4m in wages. Of course a fee would be better, but at the moment he is just a burden for us. Far better to take the hit on a transfer fee and free up budget for someone we will use. We can obviously also ask for additional terms such as a success bonus from whatever team takes him as you say.I don't remember that we've ever allowed a player out on loan in their final year of their contract.

And if he is not chomping at the bit to go to a team like Fulham, where he can get PL games and then still be a free agent at the end of the season, then there is something wrong with him.
