Have ITKs blamed Levy for this? I’m sure I’ve missed plenty of posts because my god this thread is a mess, but can’t remember seeing any of them blame him.

And

So cut off your nose to spite your face?

Yet, we happy to loan out our players with no option attached.

Do you think Sevilla gave a crap that Gil was coming back to us as they were lifting the Europa League trophy last season?
But we don’t know any of the terms and conditions under discussion, and what may have been unacceptable to player (like playing time promised) or clubs (like injury indemnities) for perfectly good reason.

the problem is Ange wants him and Levy fails to deliver again
When you say Ange wanted him I don't think he was one that he asked for but the opportunity arose and he was happy with it maybe very happy with it but I'm not sure even he wanted him for one season.
Postecoglu is building a future here which is why he's said he only wants players who are up for that, ultimately I don't believe Fati was.
Opinion on here is very divided on this one as much as I've seen before so maybe that tells us something, I'm not sure what though.

The problem is that after the initial few signings, our summer transfer window is all about "opportunity", when really we should be spending proper money on top targets, particularly with Kane gone.

No we want to sell those players. If we can’t sell them, then loan with an obligation. If the buyers don’t want that, then a loan without any option or obligation is better than paying their wages whilst they stink up the place.

Fucking obviously.

It was an opportunity for a top target. I think we need to bear in mind the difference between opportunity and opportunistic.

Daniel: “we aren’t just loaning a player from Barca- we’re too big a club to be developing other clubs talent for them”

Scouting Team: “Boss, we’ve identified a number of players for the centre back vacancies- Tapsoba, silva, schuurs……”

Daniel: “too expensive! I’ve got United on the phone offering maguire on loan. Let’s chat next week in September “

Come on mate, that's a ridiculous comparison.

Gil was a cheap, bum on the bench signing - much like Lenglet was for us.

There is value there.

If Barca just wanted 40k a week towards wages, its worth it even just for one season, but Barca reportedly wanted full wages + fee for Fati.

You're looking upwards of £20m for 1 season. With an option, there is a high risk/high reward scenario: if he bombs, we're out 20m, if he tears it up we have a potential world class player below his market value.

Without an option, if he bombs we're still out 20m, but if he tears it up, we're out 20m and Barca get a potential world class player to reintegrate or sell for massive money. There is no upside for us.

I don't so much have a problem not getting him if we didn't think the deal was right, it's more so the fucking about when we're fairly desperate for major ins/outs.

For context:
  • We've been pursuing Fati for ages (backed up by ITK), since at least April (and yes, we didn't have a manager then...)
  • At some stage yesterday the deal was "agreed" and flights/medicals were being arranged
  • Levy then jumped in and pulled the plug as he wasn't happy with the terms of the deal
  • If it got that far, you'd assume Ange was happy with it and you'd also presume that we cooled our interest on other targets
  • We've had since at least April to ask whether they'd include an option or not, that wasn't a surprise
  • It all stinks of Levy playing games and looking for a deal
  • There's two days left and once again, Levy will be caught *snigger* short

If we get Johnson and a CB and this was just a "punt" that didn't work then fair enough. If this was our main attempt to give Ange the attacking players he needs for this season then we've fucked up yet again.

Wish I could winner this 100 times
Seen this all before, time wasting instead of acting joined up, and also makes us look amateur (which we often are)

Porro was similar, Dybala too. Sudden surprises when the deal was “done” .

Completely made up scenarios are very tiresome.

This is the point I've been trying to make in other threads.

I do not like Daniel Levy. I do not like ENIC. I want them both to fuck off.

However, so many people on this site apply no logic to criticisms of Levy and constantly rewrite history, which make said criticisms seem nonsensical and undermines the whole ENIC Out stuff.

We know Fati isn't Ange's first choice. Very few people on here actually wanted him. Even fewer on a straight loan.

Yet look at the number of people shaking their fists at Levy? It literally makes no sense?

100% agree that we should be doing better this window to replace Kane, as I've said a number of times. Also baffled at the lack of a 2nd CB signing.

But if people put in loads of work into this transfer and Levy said no at the end because there was no buy option, then good. One of his better transfer decisions.

Absolutely this.

We've made the right decision if we couldn't agree an option.

But the scrambling around near the deadline with still so much work to do is utterly predictable and unacceptable in equal measure

Should have seen it coming when Mendes got involved. Don't care much about this deal but we have to get someone else instead.

As I've said countless times Jorge Mendes is a snake and there's no point trying to do deals where he is heavily involved. I'm not saying it's his fault this time around, as I don't know but it's yet another deal where he has been front and centre of negotiation that has gone tits up.

Brighton will play him in the Enciso position I suspect. Probably wanted him since he had his long term injury the other week.

No idea where he would have fitted in for us. The bench probably.

Honestly most people don't care about this player or the deal. We are annoyed because this is the same dance and opportunistic bullshit yet again. Leaves another manager short, sells our best player with no replacement. Keep in mind we had been told repeatedly he was nowhere near transfers anymore. I'll stop being annoyed by this when we change our approach to every window

I wasn't happy as soon as I heard he was involved and I don't doubt he's been keeping Brighton and probably others fully informed on our negotiations.
