If Chelsea want a striker then presumably they are going to have to raise cash first assuming ffp chat true?

Regardless of the new transfer strategy with Ange, Lange , Munn involved and (Paratici), really do not see us paying what Chelsea want for Gallaher which is sure to be OTT.

Agree.

We appear to be assessing the market really diligently.

We were interested in the centre back from Nice but identified it was a difficult deal and focused on a different target.

Gallagher could be available due to the length of his contract and their need to meet FFP but if he’s not available for around what we’re willing to pay, we’ll either move onto a new target or go bank in the summer.

Agreed, this is one where Chelsea can call us, the same tactic Utd and Arsenal should have used back in the summer, overpaying from clubs desperate to sort FFP problems should get someone a bollocking, or a night in @Archibald&Crooks sex dungeon.

Yeah no doubt we can sign someone else, in fact we probably will because this deal will be too challenging for us.

But if he’s our top target, we should try to sign him, irrespective of Chelsea’s FFP situation. That’s just common sense in my opinion.

We can’t be worrying about Chelsea’s ffp situation because ultimately it’s nothing to do with us. They can potentially sell Gallagher to someone else, or find other ways out it. They’ll still have massive problems at that club whether the keep or sell Gallagher anyway. Selling Gallagher’s not going to fix everything for them.

We need to focus on ourselves. If That’s what a big club does. If Ange and his team think he’s a missing piece and our top target, then we should try to do a deal at the right price.
If Ange and Lange think he's the player to complete our squad, then I could reluctantly accept but I don't believe he is and I'd be surprised if they did too. The noise appears to be coming from Chelsea's side on this. I think we'd be buying him because he's available, home grown and he's more suited to the system than our current backups.

I’ve always felt he’s decent enough but not a next level midfielder who would raise the centre of the park up like Rodrigo or Maddison.

Was talking to a Chelsea supporting colleague who, when I jokingly said we’re coming for Gallagher, looked genuinely surprised and asked if we actually wanted him.

Yes, he said, he’s been our best player/most popular player this year but mainly because he runs so hard, clearly cares about doing his best and therefore stands out amongst that bloated squad of over-hyped, over-priced prima donnas. He questioned his actual talent and didn’t seem to think we’d be getting anything particularly special if we were to buy him.

At the right price, if Ange wants him, then okay. But I’m not overly fussed.

I'm still not seeing what he's supposed to be good at.
Granted, Chelsea are pretty slow and shit but surely good players take a game by the scruff of the neck?
I know that plenty here think he's great and that Ange apparently wanted him but i really don't think he's worth the money, and I've seen nothing again today to change my mind so far.

Playing in front of Caicedo and Fernandes as a 10 v Fulham today, totally anonymous in the first half.
Not really a fan of him, but I don't agree.

His movement has been great. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary, but he and Palmer really makes them tick.

I am very much on the fence with him but I can see the logic to why Ange would fancy him in the 8 role.

Your comment also doesn’t note a really disjointed and pedestrian attack as a whole. Chelsea didn’t create anything of note in that first half until one decent Palmer pass and Diop took leave of his senses.

Whilst we aren’t tracking them, you’d expect a lot more of Enzo, Caicedo, Palmer and Sterling too to give your observation some balance.

What are the other alternatives to Gallagher.

It baffles me this transfer.
If Chelsea hadn’t have fucked up ffp and we’re targeting homegrown sales to stay afloat this transfer wouldn’t even be debated.
It’s like selling porro to arsenal. Sure, there have been better RBs over the years but he’s not shit. He starts every week, and he could get better. You certainly wouldn’t sell him to a rival to balance the books.

Well according to this bit of nonsense on the internet football gossip, N'dombele :) :) :) :) :) :) ,

Spurs are considering recalling French midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, 27, from his loan from Galatasaray because of the uncertainty around Gallagher. (Football Transfers)

I watched the second half of the game with my Chelsea supporting husband - I like to bait him a bit so spoke about Gallagher being sold - he said that “without him and Palmer, what have we got. They are the ones holding this together.”

We have been linked by ITK to Fofana of Monaco who is a very exciting player, very technical and Phillips on loan plus we have been linked via press to Hackney, Vermeeren and Wharton. There are probably more names on our list but those are the ones being linked currently.

I'd take Fofana ahead of Gallagher every day of the week. I know they play different positions etc but Fofana could be a monster.

For me, when you’re signing depth they either need to be:
  1. Better or markedly different than the first choice (Werner)
  2. High potential younger player (Dragusin)
  3. Experienced player at the end of their career (Perisic)
I don’t really see Gallagher as any of the three, so it doesn’t make sense to me unless we can get really good value. Maybe Ange sees him as a “enough” of all three?
