Richarlison is already at 10 in 1300 minutes. Johnson is at 4 goals and 6 assists - and he is 22 - he might get better...

We do need a Son replacement - but that should not keep us from getting a good player in at a good price.

Sell Bryan, and we have room for a more dynamic winger. Keeping Werner does not preclude us from doing any more business.
Signing Werner means we have 6 players in Son, Richarlison, Johnson, Werner, Kulusevski and Solomon who are at a stage where they'll want to play relatively regularly.

It absolutely does have a bearing on the other business we do.

You are putting a lot of faith in Solomon there - given his two serious knee injuries in two consecutive seasons, and 40 games missed, and counting.

If Ange feels the need for a more prolific winger - Solomon won't stand in the way. He can barely stand at all....

And - even at Celtic where they scored goals for fun (110 goals in 38 games) - the striker, Kyogo was the lone 20+ goals scorer, and the wingers were at 10. The wings are not the primary source of goals in his system.

Still wouldn’t sign him. It’s not a question of his price, it’s just the squad spots being filled with another player very similar to Son and Johnson.

Solomon is in my unknown category. I saw glimpses at Fulham and ourselves but not enough to make any real judgment.

As per my previous posts I don't believe we'll sell him in the summer due to how long he has been here and the interest level given the length of his recent injury.

So I think Solomon starts the season as our 6th choice attacker. Buying a 7th will make it very hard for at least 1 of them to get any game time at all.

Teams do need special players if they want to compete at the very top.

It might be someone like when Liverpool bought Salah, a quality player who hadn't yet performed to his level. Or a younger player with heaps of ability and needs to see out his potential.

My post didn't say anything about buying a player of Kane's ability.
you said it leaves us with a lack of special players. There's nothing stopping us also having young potential as well though. In fact we already do.

Just for shits and giggles - I looked up the last 4 seasons.

There have been 11 total 20+ goal-scorers across all 4 seasons.

Kane (2x)
Salah (2x)
Haaland
Toney
Son
Vardy
Aubameyang
Ings
Sterling

Of those 20+ goal seasons - only 1 came on a team that won the league - Haaland, last season. Only 5 finished in the top-4.

The average league position amongst all 11: 5.4

We don't need a 20+ goal scorer to play with Son. We need players who play well as a unit, and work together to implement the system/tactics. And, if we get that, goals will come from enough places.

The style of play is what makes the goals. So many bodies getting into the box nowadays we will always score goals. It's the perfect club for Werner to find his goal scoring form again. All the top teams spread the goals around these days. Even City prior to Haaland didn't have an outright scorer and won titles. Obviously a 20-30 goal striker is great but overall goals are what is most important. We have 4 less goals than City with a game in hand and no Kane.

I'm guessing we're assessing our options.

Out of our current 5 choices in Son, Johnson, Richarlison, Kulusevski and Solomon, Solomon is the only one I think we'd contemplate selling this summer and I don't see it happening.

I don't believe we can accommodate 7 players for these 3 positions so it's either buy Werner or look for better. If we can't find better then we might go with Werner as he is a good player who fits our playing style really well.
I think we can, if we create space in the squad for kulu to be used centrally too but I’m not sure ange wants to use him there much

Even if we do that I believe this pushes someone, likely Solomon, down the pecking order to 7th choice where he won’t get ample chance to play.

If we buy 2 attackers in the summer then I believe we’ll need to sell 1. I don’t believe any of our current options are players we currently want to sell.

Sterling and Jesus were incredibly wasteful at City.

But their movement and ability to beat players creates chances.

Werner is in that bracket and why I think we should sign him.

3 gk, 8 def, 6 mid, 6 fw, kulu and 1 other for a 25 man squad, it’s doable lots of competition and whoever can’t make many appearances will eventually move on

Thought Villa showed today the real impact of playing at the serious end of Europe and trying to maintain a top 5 run in the EPL and how tough it is. We are going to need squad depth, 7 across the front three feels like a necessity. Werner signed, Gil replaced by ball playing winger and Son at CF.

Werner has come in and done the business. A Werner on form considering his pace and ability is a 60m player.

I don’t get the worry about squad places. Who cares

Move on Gil and Solomon if we need space

Lots of competition but guaranteed that some just won’t get a chance to play.

Fine if youngsters and waiting for their chance but I can’t believe someone like Solomon will be happy at this stage of his career to be so far down the pecking order.

Unfortunate for him his injuries this year have deprived him a chance of regular football but we need to keep improving in anyway we can. In a perfect world he’d get fit and show something this season but if it doesn’t happen for him and he has to move on so be it

Improvement isn’t always through buying. I’m hoping we bought Solomon because he’s a quality player who fits how we play.

We shouldn’t be overloading any position.

As it stands we have 5 good attackers at a stage where they’ll want to get playing time in Son, Richarlison, Johnson, Kulusevski and Solomon. We have Veliz as the young backup.

I believe anymore than 1 signing in this position will lead to good players not feeling part of the squad.

I don’t mind us buying Werner but I hope we assess other options first.

Sure it’s a balancing act and I agree with other posts you’ve made where you say we need a higher quality player in attack and the chances of that go down if we sign Werner, sadly for Solomon though Werner’s been able to offer more and seems more vital to squad than him. It’s sad the injuries have robbed him of the chance but we have to keep improving imo

You could be right. I just don’t think most of us, myself very much included, know enough about Solomon to just write him off after 1 injury ravaged season with us.
