Calm down my west country neighbour, I am not saying get rid of him, I feel some real competition for RB would make him a better player. No-one has yet excused his marking in the really poor Ridgewell goal, and he has let other players he was marking go on other occasions. Charlie is a good player and I think I put the word solid in terms of defence. But a bit suspect at times. However, I am happy to be proved wrong

Meanwhile, I obviously rate Johnson more highly than most, SO who do we need to chop and buy in this ideal 25 man squad? Which is really what I wanted the thread to be about.

I had a lot of counselling but I got over it in time. Fuck you talking about? Everyone makes mistakes, King was dogshit at the Emirates.

Buy a new right back....:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Only if we want to have a team of right backs which aren't far away from. Take it easy on the cider mate.

I think Walker and Kaboul can provide all the competition charlie needs at right back.

I can't recall the ridgewell goal from memory but 1 bad mistake doesn't make a bad defender. This preseason has shown me that Corluka really can't play centreback, at all, but he is a very accomplished right back and he is crucial to Lennon's form last season.

Lennon knows he can bomb forward because he has a rightback who sits back and holds the line, where as, as proved at the world cup, having a rightback who likes to get forward, ala glen johnson, reduces Lennon's room to run into and makes him look shit.

As for what our squad needs, everyone keeps saying it. We need a strong CF who can play on his own up front, if required, good CB cover if Woody retires and a box to box midfielder who will get 10+ goals a season.

I'll let Harry sort out the players, but if he gets all those role's sorted, we'll be laughing.

Although that is true, it was Johnson's stupidity and ineptitude that over-exaggerated the problem at the World Cup, any other right back would have varied his approach but all Johnson did was overlap and never let Lennon make a run... He is absolutely useless

What is it about Johnson that people think he's so great?

And why would we want to negate one of the best right wingers in the league by signing that clueless donkey?

Here is my 25:

1. Gomes
2. Cudicini
3. Pletikosa
4. Corluka
5. Kaboul
6. Dawson (HG)
7. King (HG)
8. Bassong
9. New CB or Woodgate (HG) (but can't see him being fit).
10. BAE
11. Lennon (HG)
12. Bentley (HG)
13. Palacios
14. Modric
15. Huddlestone (HG)
16. Jenas (HG)
17. Sandro
18. Kranjcar
19. Giovani
20. Defoe (HG)
21. Crouch (HG)
22. Keane (HG) / Pav
23. New striker
24. O'Hara (HG)
25. New midfielder?

We have two players for each position, plus three GKs, plus the under-21s.

I think one of either Keane or Pav will leave, if we buy another striker. I also hope Hutton will go, as he is not needed.

O'Hara may have gone, but injury will probably keep him here till the next window.

Kaboul, Corluka, Palacios, Kranjcar, Cudicini and Ekotto - All homegrown aswell aren't they? We'll pass that rule easy.

Great that Giovani didn't turn 21 until January aswell, so he can slip into the U-21 category.

Disagree. Corluka is excellent, then we have Kaboul as able backup and two younguns that give us something different in the two Kyles.

How many do we need? or are we just going to keep Mr & Mrs Kyle at the training ground all season and sell them on in a season?

No panic from me. When Corluka got injured last season Kaboul stepped up. I expect him and the Kyles to do the same next season.

We're cutting it fine with five in my view. With the new squad rules, seven is probably too many, but I'd be comfortable with 6. It's the Spurs way.

defenders make mistakes teams get goals or noone makes a mistake flawless football is achieved and we see 38 games of 0-0. Hutton and naughtn are good enough in fact ive been less impressed by corluka.

Charlie is one of my favourite players. He may not look like he has blistering pace but he's got a lovely way of ghosting past players, can pass and cross and is a rock in defence imho. Leave him alone.

:)

as have they of ghosting past charlie..

What is the U21 rule exactly? Do they need to have played in England for a set amount of time to qualify? Only I notice people are including Giovanni, who has played in England for two years (less 6 months in Turkey) as homegrown, but not Sandro, who is younger.

The U-21 rule is if a player was under 21 at the start of the year that the current season starts (jan 81)

The homegrown rule is for players who have spent 3 or more seasons in England or Wales at any point in their career, regardless of nationality.

I hate Glen Johnson, he maybe the least intelligent player on the planet and I do not want him anywhere near our club. Also I disagree that we need a new right back, Charlie is one of the best in the league and we have the likes of Walker as back-up.

You mean he's even more dense that Micah Richards:eek:mg:

Hutton may be a little suspect at times, but kaboul will be a top class defender imho. He was quality at right back for us at the end of last season.

This is a very good squad but we lack another genuine pacey wideman, another experienced centre back and real quality centre forwards

So assuming we get Pletikosa we still need whther they are home grown or not;

1. Experienced centre back
2. Speedy winger who can play on either flank
3. A real quality number 9

Yes obviously everyone makes mistakes. But Brums late equaliser grated with me as he just left him and didn't seem arsed to track him back. I must be the only one who sees this a a weakness in the game of a player I like.

Dumb argument from Coyboy, not helped by poor grammar or swearing.

However, good post Luka yes Lennon does work well with Charlie. but the option of an overlapping right back might be nice when Lennon is injured like a huge chunk of last seasin

So Niko and Wilson count as homegrown too?

Yeah.

Palacios spent 1 season at Birmingham, 1 at Wigan and Spurs, and completed his 3rd at Spurs last season.

Kranjcar joined Pompey in Oct 2006, so already has 3+ seasons there before his 1 at Spurs.
