3 Ajax “old boys” in our starting 11, a good thing?

Will it benefit us?

So we have 3 Ajax “old boys” retuning, how must they be feeling. We know how Ajax love they successful old players, they seem to celebrate their success as if it’s their own.

Question is will this be an advantage to us. 3 senior players knowing the crowd, the stadium the pitch, or will the nostalgia hinder them? Could be very emotional for them, or is it just another game for them?

Won't make a difference, in my opinion.

The club is probably unrecognisable from the one they left many years ago, and footballers don't seem to be too nostalgic by nature.

Sure, they'll have respect for the club & the part it played in their careers. But I doubt it'll have the slightest affect on their match day feelings.

Means nothing, they're pros who have not been Ajax players for a long time (Except DS). None of them are Dutch either so it's not like Ajax is the club they grew up dreaming of playing for

Yeah I don’t Sanchez to feature bar a CB or if for some reason Poch puts Verts on the left.

Having ex-Ajax players could be useful in terms of us not being complacent or underestimating them.

Players have a history of playing well against an old club. It’s just a psychological thing. You go back to familiar surroundings, you may have friends and family at the game, you want to show your best face, as Poch would put it.

I think it might really suit Eriksen, who needs a little something to get his form going. Added to that that Ajax don’t really play with an orthodox holding player, he may be able to find the space that he so likes to exploit.

Was talking to an Ajax native on another forum and he has said Verts is still loved by the fan show and it could be more difficult to create a hostile atmosphere against him. No idea how true that could be.

We have 4 Ajax players. In fact we signed 3 from them and one went elsewhere before coming here.

I believe they all went through the academy, so they may have an affinity and emotional connection. Certainly all bar Sanchez won things over there didn't they? Sanchez got the EL final as well. I reckon they may help more than hinder us.

Pretty sure they went through the academy and Eriksen chose to stay there before signing for us. Toby and Jan's partnership and friendship pretty much began there. Think you're underestimating how much it will mean to them.

I expect they've probably returned in some capacity since leaving. But apart from Sanchez, it's been many years since they played there & probably most (all?) Personnel has changed since then.

I see your point, I just don't think it'll matter on the night because they'll be more interested in trying to make the biggest final of their careers so far.

Onions.
