Optimistic, yes. Expectations, still none. Give it a couple of games against tougher opposition and i might start wondering what we can achieve with the team, above 5th/6th.

Exactly; I am optimistic that we will not lose 5-0 or 6-0 at home.
But...I will wait for one more week :cautious:

Admire the optimism but it's a tad early, last season we had the same amounts of points and there was a buzz about us before it went tits up.

Think we ought to take each game as it comes although it's nice being top and playing well.

This is the key point, isn't it? I completely agree on holding our damn horses a minute, but we haven't played well, as in genuinely exciting to watch for the right reasons, for so long, it's like a man who's spent a week in the desert being handed a Snapple Mango Madness. No small, sensible sips for that man, it's down in one

I always feel optimistic at the start of a new season. Granted, we haven't sold a key player in this window.

When I sat down in my seat yesterday, looked at the snooker table of a pitch, looked ahead to the 3 games at the Lane this week, I thought to myself if I'm feeling this optimistic at 3.20pm next Sunday then I'll start to get excited.

There is much to be happy about after yesterday, but I still have one or two concerns. I actually think there is going to be a lot of movement in the last week of the window, and suspect we will be stronger by the end of it.

Southampton started off very well last season, presumably because of their superior fitness. They then of course fell away a little. I am hoping our bigger and better squad will ensure there is no fall-off.

COYS!

Optimistic? Well yes, but oddly enough, not about results. This most exciting thing for me this season is the prospect of having the Tottenham back that I've missed since, well, Harry left.

I was never his biggest fan, but he played the way we're meant to play. I'm optimistic mostly, because on the evidence of yesterday, there is going to be a swagger, a sense of style and some beautiful football on show. It's been too long. Even with Bale in his final season, there was little in the way of style to the team. I'm just optimistic mostly, that Poch is looking like he's going to be bringing sexy back.

Best I've felt about the club as a whole for a long time.

Last season I thought the squad/club needed gutting. Turns out they just needed confidence, self belief, a good work ethic and above all else, a chance.

Feels like a new start for everyone involved including the fans.

They also needed the right manager. I think we may have found him.

It must be fun to play within the attacking midfield 3. Poch has taken the shackles off and allowed them to roam the pitch and trust their own footballing instincts (when we have the ball). If Eriksen and Lamela and lets say Chadli can stay fit and develop an understanding, that would potentially be difficult to play against.....

I'll be more optimistic after a good performance against a far better organised and talented team next week. But at least we look like we can break down the dross with ease.

That's a fair point, QPR were awful but then again if that was us last season there's no way we would have played that well, teams like Hull and Cardiff were coming to the lane and we were scraping wins so there are certainly signs of progress bring made.

Just trying to be cautiously optimistic and not get carried away but the early signs are certainly good!

My main reasons to be optimistic;

- seems to be a togetherness in the squad, demonstrated by the fight we put up last week at Spam - remember wgat happened in the same situation last year??

- we scored an early goal yesterday which we haven't done for ages against teams which are likely to come to WHL and park the bus. Makes such a difference if we can get in front early.

Still very early days, we have a long way to go - next match vs Liverpool will give us a better idea of where we are. Positive signs though.

It's still early days and things must be taken into context.

We were Average against West Ham when we were 11v11. A team we should be brushing aside. But we beat them despite losing a player.

We were awful against the plimsoles but we fought back from behind.

QPR are newly promoted and awful. Why would HR be trying to sell his beat striker when they can't score goals??? And they were terrible and we brushed them aside - like we Should be doing.

Liverpool will be a test but even that will be tempered by the fact that they are bedding in 7 new players.

As someone else alluded to, the key is that we don't allow the justifiable, albeit early, optimism to raise expectations.

I expected us to take a while to adapt to Poch's approach and achieve the fluency we achieved versus QPR, and although yesterday's first half performance blew me away, I'm still not expecting that level of performance on a consistent basis for a few months yet.

Reasons to be cheerful though!

Personally think it's too early to be dismissive of other teams in the same way that it's too early to label us world beaters. West Ham did some good things against us and were very good at Palace. Yes it's all relative but after 2 games nobody has any great idea as to what is going to look like a great result come the end of the season. Last season after 2 games people though Chelsea's draw at Old Trafford was a good point, but in May they were one of only 2 teams in the Top 6 not to take 3 points up there. West Ham could be in the mire this season or they could be 8th or 9th. Either way it's far too early to claim they are a team we should be "brushing aside" away from home.

Feeling good and fairly optimistic, but trying to remain fairly realistic as well.

Yesterday we looked really good but by Christ, QPR were seriously awful as well. Tougher tests await starting next week which will be more of a truer showing.

I still don't think we will break top 4 this season due to some shrewd purchases by those above us but then I'm not one to think that top 4 is everything. Show me signs of improvement, good football, and hopefully a cup (preferably Europa) and I'll be a very happy man.

And caution is definitely recommended. No false dawns, no new messiahs. Will just enjoy the football

great post arunspurs! I love how yesterdays performance has set-off a wave of optimism amongst the players and fans alike (as it should). Then again, we are Spurs ...and we could be calamitous next week! :)

Seriously though, for me I'm optimistic for the following reasons:
- we have a coach that is 100% clear - even his non-native english is perfect clear. Can you imagine how the players must love a coach who can clearly articulate their roles and then see the results of their work during the game!?
- I think Poch has the team practicing specific drills related to in-match situations. You heard southamptons players last year talk about it & I read this year that we actually played a training game with 10 men!
- There is DESIRE. Look at every single player's body language and what you see clearly is desire! Desire to be first, to be their best, to not let their team mate down, to fight for the shirt. I swear, in my almost 30 years of watching spurs, it's something I've only ever seen once or twice...long may it continue!
- Tactically, we look well drilled. From the front 3 interchanging to the back 4 knowing when to be involved. Our set plays look like they have though behind them and most interesting of all ...when was the last time you saw 3 - 5 spurs players rushing forward to the box on a break! Exhilarating!

It's all way to early...but the signs are clear & encouraging. We need to be patient (and calm). It's also great knowing we have a coach that can get the players focused on HIS tactics & formations. I think Sunday's game against 'pool will be an interesting barometer for our mental strength & resilience - they will come hard at us but I think the Lane will buzz if we can come close to replicating the zest & energy shown yesterday against QPR. I'm excited about the game...but even more exciting is that I think the players can't wait to get out there again ...and this is the biggest reason I feel so optimistic this year!

To Dare is To Do! COYS!!!!

The things I really loved about yesterday was our tenacity to win the ball back, the way we broke when we got the ball back ( numerous players swarming forward to support the ball carrier, a thing of beauty) and chadli's scream after his second goal. You could almost feel the exorcism of our previous terrible regimes in that scream.

Only two games gone, it's not worth taking any notice of the table at this stage. Swansea aren't going to qualify for the CL and we're not going to win the title. We could have lost to West Ham if they had finished better and we hammered a poor QPR side.

There are some encouraging signs but it's Liverpool next.

It is always worth taking notice of the table when we're top. It never happens beyond September.

The main plus point for me what that when we signed Eriksen, Lamela and Chadli we wanted them to alternate positions in a fluid 3 behind the striker and I think yesterday was the first game where we genuinely saw it in operation.

Last year Lamela and Chadli in particular were far too rigid in sticking to the right and left respectively, they offered no goal threat and were crossing for a striker with no presence. They were dragging players around yesterday and popping up in different positions.
