According to Londonderry Sentinel newspaper, we are signing midfielder Aaron McEneff from Derry City FC on a two year scholarship.

Any of the Norns (not in the mythological sense ) know anything about this kid. Apparently he impressed during a two week trial (so, sorry if there was a thread on that, I may have missed it). Tim Sherwood felt that he reminded him of a young Roy Keane = quick, hide the black paint :eek::eek:

INSTITUTE starlet Aaron McEneff is joining Premiership giants Tottenham Hotspur this summer, Sentinel Sport can reveal.

The gifted midfielder, who earlier in the year had a trial with Scottish Premier Division side Kilmarnock, is signing a two year scholarship deal with Harry Redknapp’s side following a successful display at White Hart Lane.
In fact former England international and now Spurs Technical Co-ordinator Tim Sherwood, felt McEneff reminded him of a ‘young Roy Keane’, after he watched him during a training session.
The St Columbs College student concedes he’s over the moon about his move to North London.
“I was offered a two year scholarship with Spurs and I’m buzzing,” admitted the 16-year-old.
“I went over a few months ago and took part in a few training sessions but they wanted me back to play in a match and I played against Aston Villa a few weeks ago.
“I think that is when Tim Sherwood said something about me reminding him of a ‘young Roy Keane’, which was nice to hear but a bit crazy,” said the Manchester United supporter.
The level headed Northern Ireland U17 international although thrilled about his summer move isn’t taking his eye off his studies and is concentrating on his forthcoming exams before aiming to try and hit the big time at White Hart Lane.
“Yes I can’t wait to make the move across to London, but before that I have to make sure that I get my GCSE’s first and then start thinking about Spurs.
“My first target whenever I go over to London is to try and do well in the Spurs Under 18 side under Alex Inglethorpe and then hopefully progress into the Academy under John McDermott and then see what happens.
“Because I have a two year scholarship at such a big club I know what I have to do, so hopefully I can knuckle down and do well.”
’Stute’s Head of Development Paul Kee is thrilled McEneff is getting his move across the water.
“Aaron is a great lad both on and off the pitch and he certainly has the right mentality to make it, but he knows that the hard work starts now.
“He broke into our first team this season and did very well and I’m confident we as a club can produce more young players.”
All of McEneff’s old sides Institute, Maiden City Academy and Don Boscos are expected to benefit financially with the move to Spurs.

Bound to happen...every population has some socially isolated individuals who can only feel good about themselves if it is by association with a winning sports team (or similar), and thereby, although by their very being, fitting the description of losers they can, via an act of voluntary association, become winners.

Ironickall, really, that they should remain wieners while becoming winners ;)

There's a fair few Spurs fans too. After Utd and Liverpool I'd say Spurs are equal to Arsenal next in the ranks over here. The generation from the 50's and 60's winning sides have ensured its carried through to their kids and grandkids.

I on the other hand chose Spurs to spite my Liverpool supporting Dad one day in a strop. The strop probably lasted 20 minutes, but I've been supporting Spurs now 20 years.

Definitely a big minority compared to United and Liverpool though, no comparison actually.

The Mancs are everywhere but Spurs have a massive support in N.Ireland. Im one of those that had no choice. Both sides of my family support Spurs.

I would hardly call it massive in relation to United and Liverpool supporters, that's the point though. Doesn't mean to say there arn't a good number of Spurs fans from here - there clearly is, just not in the same league as the two aforementioned.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise you held the numbers for spurs supporters in the whole of N.Ireland. Please enlighten me. As far as I'm and concerned and basing my assumption on the area I am from the support is massive but I did imply in my previous post that the Mancs had a huge support.

For years Man United and Liverpool shirts are bloody everywhere, I rarely see a Spurs top about - a few more these days. Obviously all supporters don't walk about wearing football tops, but by in large its pretty obvious that Liverpool and United are the most supported English sides in Northern Ireland, anybody I know here would agree with that to, its so bloody obvious.

That's not to say that Spurs don't have a decent sized support here as well, they do - its just not on the same level as Man United and Liverpool.

Never heard of Londerry, sounds interesting place though

There is a lot of Tottenham support in Ireland, North and South, there is even a Spurs Supporters Club in Limavady ( 17 miles east of Derry ) where I grew up

Tottenham would be easily the 3rd most supported team 20 years ago when I lived there but I am sure with success since then Arsenal and Chelsea have probably pushed us down to 5th

I never once denied that, and I myself would be agree with this, however I was simply implying that spurs also had a massive support. You assumed that I was saying spurs had a bigger support

Its only recent years that it has been possible to purchase a spurs top in most sports shops in N.Ireland but that doesn't stop people supporting Spurs.

But equally, you assumed because I said United and Liverpool had bigger support here that Spurs had next to none, which wasn't what I was saying at all.

I live about 6 miles from Ards, never heard of a Spurs supporters Club there. There is one in East Belfast though, or Dundonald should I say.

and I'm simply giving mine, and yeah if the numbers were totted up I reckon the United and Liverpool support would be considerably larger. They're massive Clubs with far bigger fan bases.
