Refinement is the right word for it, certainly defensively.

He attempts tackles he shouldn't. Presses out of position when he shouldn't.

But bear in mind he's also playing as the more aggressive one in the double pivot, with Trondstad often sitting and breaking up play - and obviously these are all very coachable aspects at his age.

This video shows a bit more of his finer qualities this season.

Notice how he evades pressure off either foot. For instance he'll receive it on his weaker right and in one touch cushion it onto his left to skin his opponent with one fluid two touch movement.

Whilst scanning to see if the player has bought the dummy, and safeguard possession if he's not.

Looks easy but most PL players do NOT want to control it under pressure with their weaker foot. Certainly not confidently enough to use it to beat your man. He'll do it in his own penalty area.

Notice also the range of creative passes with his weaker right foot. He'll have so many angles available to him and be able to control the tempo as he matures.

Appreciate its a highlights reel but he looks very decent. .. tenacious fer sure

Looks very raw. But if he’s been identified and we can leave him there on loan for the rest of the year, bring him in training with the first team until next January then send him on a development loan ie Phillips then it should see him improve and grow.

I thought Phillips looked extremely raw but now looks so assured at Plymouth

Does anyone know if he's related to former world title contender Henry Wharton?

I know a Blackburn fan and he rates him. Reckons that they are our feeder club, as we have taken Phillips off them as well. He says that he is a great passer and take the ball and always gets it out of his feet quickly to keep the ball moving.

Wouldn’t be the worst thing to develop a really strong relationship with a Championship club like Blackburn. Good way to get some of the youth quality experience via loans and obviously benefits us when talents like Phillips and Wharton break through.

One thing I'll say is I've seen people talking about Vermeeren and how highly rated he is. Yet everything I have seen from each and all the data metrics all point to Wharton being the superior player currently in almost every way.

Sure Wharton has a few areas to improve but he won't be expected to be a starting CM, he'll be afforded time to grow.

So he’s a cross between Redondo, Carrick, Gerrard and Wilshire?
'He's got the finishing of Redondo, the pace of Carrick, the sureness of foot of Gerrard and the robustness of Wilshere.'

'I want a refund.'

Pardon the bump.

Wharton was an unused sub tonight as they best Wrexham 4-1 at home in the Cup.

Seems like they're cashing in before the deadline.

A loan back would suit us nicely with Hojbjerg staying until the summer.

Would it suit Palace? Probably less so.
