From the Daily Fail here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...oe-Spurs-says-Emmanuel-Adebayor.html?ITO=1490

Emmanuel Adebayor has vowed to make inform Jermain Defoe the top scorer in the Premier League this season to help Tottenham to what he believes can be a topthree place.
The Togo striker, 28, makes his return for Spurs against Aston Villa having completed a protracted £5million summer move from Manchester City.

Adebayor, who spent last season at White Hart Lane on loan and scored 17 goals, picked up a hamstring injury early in this campaign having had a delayed pre-season.
'We've got a good team and a good squad,' said Adebayor.
'As for Jermain, I have huge respect for him and he knows this already. I've told him that if I can come back and make him the top goalscorer in the League then I'm happy to do that. It would be my pleasure to help him score more goals. I am not a selfish player, I want to share and hopefully he will be the man who will score to give us victory over Villa.
'The club are happy having me and I'm happy playing alongside top players like Jermain, who is on fire at the moment, Gareth Bale and Clint Dempsey, who is an unbelievable player.'

What is up with this unexpected wave of Striker generosity?! I like it!

Not sure if youve noticed ade but we only play one striker these days! What we really need from you is to take responsibility for scoring goals yourself on top of the good work you do for the team!!

Indeed, but AVB has said himself he can see them both playing - at times.

What might make that a more frequent occurrence is that both Sig and Dempsey have had fairly lacklustre starts - i'd certainly be tempted to switch to playing Defoe and Ade together.

Yep. I'd be tempted to play Adebayor and Defoe together at home. I still hope Sig will show us what the fuss was about soon (and I believe he will), and Dempsey needs to get more involved in games, but I can see Adebayor and Defoe being a fantasic pairing.

At home when we need to be more aggressive with our attacking intent it could well happen relatively frequently.

Yeah me to. I do think that Dempsey will get quite a few goals for us though when he gets up to speed. Sig will improve with time, more gradually I think.

Anyone think AVB played Defoe in midweek to justify resting him, and trying out Adebayor in the league this weekend? Got a feeling the latter might start tomorrow.

He knows that. This is his statement of intent that he would be happy to play as part of a front 3, if that's what it takes to get his arse on the pitch. It's an intelligent bit of spin from Adebayor, aimed at AVB.

It crossed my mind for a split second, but Adebayor couldn't be in a position to start a game - there's just no way.

Anyone else think he is hinting at taking lennons place? Playing alongside Defoe, bale and Dempsey, saying he is not a selfish player but a provider. I personally think he could do a job as a wing forward in some games.

I would prefer for him to take defoes place though, Defoe will make a great impact sub if we can keep him involved throughout the season. Last season ade really made the difference, looking forward to seeing him force his way into the team. I expect to see him start on the bench tomorrow though.

I can see Ade as a wing forward. The only reason people would say he couldn't is because he is big but Hulk isn't small and Ade is just as creative as Hulk imo. 4-3-3 with Bale, Defoe and Ade or Dempsey has a lot of goals in it.

But very little tracking back.

I would much rather he concentrate on getting himself fit and in shape to get on the football field, to be honest.

Thought the first: What? Has AVB told you he is going to start playing 4-4-2?

Thought the second: What? Assuming we won't be playing 4-4-2, I am guessing you have discovered a secret formula that is giong to magically prevent JD from being off-side! Summit like the Belt of Invisibility or the Garter of Sneaky Feckedness or summit?

So ade is looking to be a team player even if that means helping out defoe, while defoe sees ade as competition for his spot... i think i like adebayor a bit better than defoe

Adebayor and Defoe showed themselves to be a good combo at the beginning of last season whilst VDV was out injured.

The only problem is that 4-4-2 does tend to leave midfields a bit shorted due to large numbers of teams in the prem deploying a 5-man midfield.

The thing we have in our favour now though is that Dembele is a bit more likely to get himself dirty then Modric was so maybe with Dembele alongside Sandro / Parker in the centre we could cope for some matches.

Bale would need to work a bit harder though as for a former defender he can be a right lazy bastard when it comes to this side of his game.

We could also put Ade in the middle of the attacking three behind Defoe.
