Another note.

Maitland Niles had a good run of form at the end of the season. Particularly vs Chelsea and City in which Arsenal sat deep and countered. Perhaps that's where his strengths lie and Jose noticed this.

I know when he first broke through they played him as an attacking midfielder/winger but whilst he seemed lively he struggled with anything creative. And we know Arsenal always tried to play on the front foot so some of the negativity was because he couldn't offer much in an attacking sense.

Maybe he's much more suited to counter attacking football.

AMN is an interesting one as a player. When there’s not a lot of Spurs news I pop over to Arsenal Mania to see what those melts are up to.

I think it’s safe to say they aren’t massive fans of him, but they are sympathetic that he’s a CM who was forced to become a RB because of their lack of depth there after Bellerin’s injuries. It seems he’s become a bit stuck because he’s reluctant to commit to being a full time RB, but Arteta doesn’t rate him as a midfielder.

by the way, apparently he doesn't see himself as a RB or a CM but, rather, a winger.

I actually think he is pretty decent, ignoring the arsenal stuff, but I wouldn't want him as our main right back option. He is young and has a lot of room to grow and he is home grown. Can fill a lot of positions is improving and all that. Not against this, really not against it. It's not going to happen though is it.

The link only mentions cash - where is this idea of them wanting a player from us coming from?

I don't see who fits for them tbh.
Me neither, maybe Foyth?

That's the only one I see as viable. I mean they often play a back three and Foyth probably would shine in such a system. But..

Seen a couple of people assume he’s an Arsenal fan Cos he came through the academy, based on nothing whatsoever, he’s hardly gonna say he’s a spurs fan is he. Irrelevant with most professional footballers. Jonnie Jackson came through our academy but is an Arsenal fan and absolutely hates us

This seems to shed a bit more light on a potential deal:

Essentially Arsenal need the money, despite Arteta wanting to keep him.

The Ornstein piece in July specifically said his preferred position was CM.

I can't even begin to think what he would add to us on a footballing level as I keep coming to the main question which is why Arsenal would even consider selling to us?! We just don't do business with Arsenal or Chelsea whatsoever.

Depressing, very depressing, id much rather keep serge.... he is ok going forward but is wank at defending ... the only way this would make sense if he was free and we could sell him on after for a fee..... 20m wtf thats a joke... wasting that on him would be criminal by the club and manager.

Ps he really annoys me whenever i see him, hes got issues , he cannot crack a smile
