Tottenham have opened negotiations for Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho, according to reports in France.
The highly-rated defender, valued at £7m, has also interested Aston Villa and Newcastle.
But the French newspaper Le Parisien says talks with Spurs are at an advanced stage and the 24-year-old could sign for the London club this week.

Would be great. One of the left back's I rate as the very best.

So we can get messed a bit more by Lyon then? Think we're ok at LB tbh and the money would be better spent elsewhere.

I would not mind having him in our team. It will show we mean business. Top quality player.

Also very offensive in the attacking part of the game, despite being a left back.

Do you want to put up the £7m then? I can't see Levy sanctioning a move when there are areas of the squad that need strengthening more than LB.

£7 mill for a player like him is not much. He is worth more than that.

Our current cover is pretty pants to be honest. Rose was pretty shambolic at left back last season and Fryers is untested.

Naughton/Townsend can be emergency left back cover but I expect they'll be loaned out again.

Bale should only be used as a left back in emergencies since we currently don't have any cover for him or Lennon and due to the fact he is by far our best player.

By bringing in Cissokho we will have 2 quality left backs and we will be able to rotate them, giving us better options in both the league and the Europa.

Bassong and Vertonghen can cover at LB if needed.

Assou-Ekotto had a much better season than Cissiko did though, just looking at the stats from whoscored.com.

I know he hasn't been great for us, but I can see basing being use as are left back cover. Plus if needs be be Vertonghen can play there as he does for Belgium. So I can't see us buying another left back.

I don't look at stats for a player like him, because I know that Lyon is not built as they used to be and I know that Cissokho is a top quality player if he plays around top quality players.

If he's so good, why are they letting him go?

I guess he would be interested in leaving? A few years ago, I rated Lyon as one of the best teams in the world, but someone in the management and scouts seems to have lost it a bit now. They are not signing that many exciting players as they used to. Cissokho is one of few exciting players left in the team. I rate the likes of Lacazette, Umtiti, Fofana, Dabo, etc... though... They have not completely lost it :)

Ok fair enough, £7m seems a little small if he's as good as you think and has got time left on his contract.

Vertonghen yes but Bassong no chance, I don't want to see him at left back in a competitive match for us!

If we are interested and we are getting Ade so cheap then it will be a good signing. Remember we will probably sell a few as well. I don't think that is massive money for him.

Bassong is terrible.

Yes Vertonghen can play left back but ideally he should be kept at centre back along side Kaboul.

We need a consistent back 4 this season and injuries permitting it should be:

Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Ekotto - week in week out in the premiership.
