Frustrating.

If he aplied himself like lamela and dembele I think he'd be a really valuable player

I wouldn't totally agree with that. I remember a game on the left last season (Sunderland)? when he was getting to the byeline and putting crosses in, he looked really dangerous, much better than he does on the right.

Yep. It frustrates the hell out of me he's never been given a run on the left hand side. He played all his junior football there until he went to qpr on loan.

I believe if he's allowed to play there here or at another club, as we probably should sell him, then he will have a very good career.

He has played on the left for us and he's still not effective enough. He just doesn't have enough subtlety or guile in his game to make it at the top level. I think he will probably end up at a team like Newcastle before eventually drifting into the Championship - I seriously don't believe he is a premiership standard player.

So seems like Townsend asked to play with the U21's and that has impressed Poch

Mauricio Pochettino insists he has no issue with Andros Townsend requesting to play for Spurs' U21 side
Andros Townsend is in contention for Tottenham's trip to West Brom on Saturday after spending the last month with the Under 21s, Mauricio Pochettino revealed.

The 24-year-old has been frozen out of the first team since early November ago as punishment for a heated exchange with a Spurs fitness trainerduring a post-match warm-down.

The England international is yet to start a game for Spurs this season and has played just 64 minutes of top-flight football.

He failed to make the bench for Sunday's 0-0 draw with Chelsea before running out for the reserves against Middlesbrough on Monday night.

Townsend is back in contention for Spurs
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Pochettino said the incident is water under the bridge and that the winger's attitude in recent weeks has impressed him.

"There is not an issue with Andros. He was on the bench in some games and was out of the squad against Chelsea. He asked us to play in the Under 21s against Middlesbrough," Pochettino said.

Mauricio Pochettino has praised Townsend
"It's a very good thing because, for me, it's a very good attitude to play for the Under 21s and wanting to keep working hard and keep his physical level."

Asked if Townsend is back with the first team, Pochettino said: "Yes, yes, it's like any other player. In Andros' case he wanted to play for the Under 21s.

"It's not easy. He's still young and has a big future in football here or at another club. You always need to learn in football."

He's definitely premier league level. Lower end perhaps but he's above championship level for sure.

Agreed. I do think he can make it at a Prem club where he can relax and focus on the football rather than having the pressure over him of making it as his family's club.

Of course, I also think he'll fare a bit better at a club with a wider pitch, but that's just a personal conviction. But I do think I'm at the point of having to concede that I just don't think that this is currently the place for him, as he is indeed trying far too hard to make a personal impact - regardless of it being for personal glory or just staking his claim at his boyhood club with a deep team - and so I think it may be for the best that he move on relatively soon.

The problem for us that leaves is who's going to replace him. If we do have a strong offer for this winter, I think the plan needs to be to rigorously begin prepping one of the youth kids (Oduwa or Georgiou) for first team action, including more game time.
