looking at our lack of options at left midfield i think he could do a job if poch can coach him to play a more controlled game.

he certainly has the pace and can beat a defender.

personally really rate him and think he will have a great season and improve a lot under poch

It's definitely possible, I think he should get a fair few games with the Europa to play so we'll find out.

If he can improve in the same way a Jay Rodriguez did under Poch, we might have a bit of a player on our hands.

Clearly a talented player, just needs an ego check every now and then.

I'm rooting for him. It'd be nice to have a player other than Ledley become something at Spurs this century.

I think he could be very decent sub against tired defenders for now at least. Got pace, some skills. I believe he could improve much under Poch, who knows how good he could come? He got weaknesses i know, but nothing he couldnt develop. Should also go to youtube and watch the same videos as Bale did.

Our way to the top has to be through developing players. We can't match clubs financially so trying to achieve too much by the transfer market is just stupid.

At the moment we have an issue with not being supportive enough of young players or giving them pitch time to develop.

Townsend had the best dribbling stats in the Prem at the beginning of last season. He has some developing to do and needs to focus on getting assists rather than goals.

But we need to view that with positivity rather than simply writing him off as not good enough or lacking character.

Just needs to improve his decision making in the final third and mix up his movement a bit more really (sometimes come deep and dribble, sometimes look for the run in behind). The ability is all there and that stuff is coachable by someone who knows what they're doing.

I've seen enough from him as a pundit to realise that he does understand the game, and has a few more cells between his ears than the likes of Lennon.

Just need to might be too much for him!

One of the most infuriating players I have ever seen. Clearly has some talent but his insistence on shooting every time he got the ball meant that we kept giving away the ball and stopped us from creating chances in the box. We play a lot better without him for that reason.

Hopefully Poch can coach him, but I'm far from optimistic.

Don't think I should comment too much in detail, because I'm on this row of being super-optimistic about our players despite what others are saying, and I don't want to ruin such a good feeling.

Put him on the left = problem solved/reduced imo

I pretty much agree with you.

We don't know what he'll develop into. I remember him saying he prefers playing on the right as he can cut in and shoot. If he continues with that attitude then he'll only ever be a bottom half club Prem player.

The raw ability is there and he seems like a nice guy and a hard-worker.

As a club we need to develop these players into Prem players that don't simply grab headlines but perform a job for the good of the team.

Too early to know if he can iron out these weaknesses to his game.

Lets see what we can do with him this season just like all our signings from last. This season is tbe real test for all of them.

He's not as good as ITV think he is, but he isn't as bad as folk on here suggest. Another player who has cost us nothing but could be a great player. More than happy to have him here and if he develops we could have one hell of a player.

I think he definitely has potential, and I hope that we do everything we can to unlock that potential. There are some definite and concerning weaknesses in his game, but we have to hope that in Pochettino we finally have a training-ground coach who can iron some of those flaws out. If he can improve even some of the weaker sides of Townsend's game, then we'll have ourselves (at worst) a decent squad player for years to come, and possibly even a mainstay in the side.

I'm in the optimistic and hopeful camp on Townsend, but I'd have to concede that his career could easily go either way at the moment.

Yet if you look at the ratings thread he was one of our best players according to the people on here bar 3 matches

He didnt cut in and shoot all the time for england and looked to feed Rooney and Sturridge more.

He cuts as much on the left as he does on the right if the manager wants his wingers to cut in as seen for U21's
