Ange Postecoglou defended his "tired" Tottenham team after they were blown away in a six-goal thriller at Brighton.

Postecoglou said: "Fair to say we were looking a bit tired and lacked our usual sharpness, especially at the start of the game. We've been starting games well.

"I guess that's understandable, we've been on this run for a while now and asking players to perform at levels. It's very demanding the way we play, physically, and today we kind of looked like a team that wasn't at its sharpest.

"Brighton are a good side and they took advantage of that. Ultimately what I do know is the players, everything they had they gave and that's all I can ask for."

The season has been great so far, but there is only so much changing a manager can do, we all know that once Davies, Dier, Royal, Hojbjerg and Skipp start playing regularly together, results are going to slide.

Dier and Skipp have not been doing that. Davies has been quite brilliant adjusting to his positional change after many years. Royal plays a different position every game and its unfair to knock him for his efforts. I thought we all agreed PEH was a decent sub but injuries and suspensions have forced our hand.

Is not fair to lay blame on these players for this defeat. They are not first choice but try bloody hard when they play. I blame Bissouma, matty cash, bad luck. They players are all jaded. Lo celso was very poor when he came on and he cant be overtired. Johnson needs to start scoring now. Kulu, as much as I love him, stupid peno to give away.

Think it’s fair to say that the manager must think that Dorrington and Phillips are no where near the level we need as ‘prospects’ if he continues to play 4 fullbacks as he has done on quite a few occasions now.

This is the point tho. We Know it’s demanding. We also know there aren’t enough technically quality players in the squad that are fit and healthy, so we need a more energy conserving type of play option. I noticed we went a bit longer yesterday than I’ve seen recently, maybe this was the compromise of tiredness and the CBs we had available.

Come on Jenko, you’ve been watching them for years, it’s a squad game and our squad isn’t up to it, all those lads need moving on and better players brought in.

I absolutely agree with that, although I do think Davies and Emerson are worthy of a squad role. I just challenged you for saying their presence was the reason for the dip in results. 2 of them haven't really been present (dier and skipp), 1 of them has positively surprised us (davies) considering, and the other two are only playing because of injuries and Bissouma"s sillyness (Emerson & PEH).

I would argue the dip in results is much more due to bad luck, tiredness, and indiscipline, rather than blame the 5 replacements that are trying their best.

With a couple more transfer windows we can be optimistic it won't happen like this next season.
