- going for the potential opportunity to get Fati on loan with an option was a smart play

- not getting Fati on a simple loan when we are doing a rebuild and don't have a fixture pile up, was also the smart play

- for both Fati and Barca, evaluating where to go between us knowing it's only for a year and the priority is getting time on the pitch, going to Brighton was the smart play

This is all fine actually.

Bayern Juve and Real all loan big players from each other all the time.

Arsenal loaned Odegaard when their stock was low.

We failed to qualify for the conference league.

Why do we feel this type of loan was beneath us?
They aren't in the business of trying to develop their own talent. Their loans are typically for established players.

If we are truly trying to develop our own pipeline of kids then bringing in a 20yo who we don't control just to have him play over another kid we do own makes no sense.

For everyone saying that we dodged a bullet if it were just a loan, I think the point is that a loan could very well end up better than what we get (which could be nothing) and we’ve wasted the very limited time we have left trying to “get a bargain” again and failing miserably.

If we get Johnson and a CB, then yeah, Levy was right to take a punt and see what he could do here. If it costs us those deals and we end up short then it’s the same big mistake he’s made many times before.

We’ll know in 48 hours…
Agree with the premise - but we need more than a CB and Brennan Johnson for the window to be deemed in some way a success and selling our best player to be in anyway worthwhile.

What a deal for Barca really. Basically sending Fati on a rehab/training course at what is looking like one of the best development clubs in the world right now.

Every chance Fati comes back a £100m+ player and they'd have been paid £10-15m for it!
This should be pinned.

You know damn well someone went to watch a couple of episodes of their favourite TV program at half 9, logged back on to SC just now and this was the first post they saw. 😂

No, not that one...but when that episode of the X-Files (s01e09) was over I did wonder why the thread had grown by a full 20 pages.

I think this is a better deal for Brighton than it would have been for us, assuming they are getting the same that we would have been.

They're happier to take short term risks. A kind of two steps forward, one step back strategy. They are happy to use Fati for a season, with no expectation of anything more, to build recognition and maybe squeak a Champions League place. They'll then attract two or three players one step down from Fati, but one step up from their current squad level, on permanent deals, and then start the next stage of their build.

We, on the other hand, need more to reorganise a ridiculously ineffiecient squad. That means in the short term it's more important to clear the decks than to take short term risks. I'd love to have seen Fati play for us, but our long term success lies elsewhere.

But who are we going to play there instead of him? We aren't signing anyone else now so we have decided not to strengthen the 1st team for a season. We could have spent the time looking for a long term replacement while having as good season and hopefully getting back into Europe. We aren't too big to loan a player from one of the massive clubs in a position we require.

Yeah, can't believe Levy had literally everyone in the club stop all their other work, and had EVERY. SINGLE. EMPLOYEE. working on this transfer.

NOT ONLY THAT.

He got everyone to delete all correspondence/files/contacts/etc. for all the other transfers we were working on, both in and out.
a lawyer… aka someone who understands how deals work!

Why is a straight loan such a bad deal. People were crying out for Harry to stay for another year to try to get us into the champions league (no guarantee) with him leaving for nothing at the end of season. Surely someone who could improve us for a season and increase our chances of getting 5th then leaving for nothing is no different.
I am not saying Fati is in any way as good as Harry Kane!

This is the point I've been trying to make in other threads.

I do not like Daniel Levy. I do not like ENIC. I want them both to fuck off.

However, so many people on this site apply no logic to criticisms of Levy and constantly rewrite history, which make said criticisms seem nonsensical and undermines the whole ENIC Out stuff.

We know Fati isn't Ange's first choice. Very few people on here actually wanted him. Even fewer on a straight loan.

Yet look at the number of people shaking their fists at Levy? It literally makes no sense?

100% agree that we should be doing better this window to replace Kane, as I've said a number of times. Also baffled at the lack of a 2nd CB signing.

But if people put in loads of work into this transfer and Levy said no at the end because there was no buy option, then good. One of his better transfer decisions.
Why is it good of levy to let people waste time on a deal so close to the closing of the transfer window. Which at the bare minimum improves our attack for this season and gives us a better opportunity to potentially get back to Europe. Our attack is so average it’s ridiculous. Hope I’m wrong but I can’t see us getting a better deal at this stage as we realistically need 2 top ATT to even have a chance. If it’s just a ‘simple loan’ to push the can down the road till next summer then so be it.

If Fab has said that then clearly things weren't as far along as sources believed.

Our ITKs are great and I highly rate their insight, analysis and views, but they can only pass on what they are told by sources, in good faith.

If we get BJ in and a defender, as others have said, I will be content if we get some outs too.
