I do think they will be stronger this year and can understand the early Poch comparisons due to the young squad etc.

For me they are basically 'Diet City'. They have spells where they look fantastic and peg teams back constantly. The issue they have is City do it for 90 minutes not 30. Whilst they were deserved winners last night, Palace had chances and were the more imposing side for the majority of the second half.

Think their issue is actually simple. They are not technically as good as City so cannot control the opposition for the length City do. They also lack the physicality of City, even though City are superb with the ball they have plenty of good athletes who win their battles and don't get overrun by any teams. If they are to really compete they need to find a way to counteract this as they will not get away with letting other teams controlling the game for large parts all season.

Got to say Saliba looks a great player. Really impressive debut from him, he impressed me far more than Jesus and Zinchenko. Regardless of the quality of their playing squad the major downfall they have is Arteta is a huge step down from the current Top 4 managers, could possibly include EtH in this as well.

Side note but thought the atmosphere last night was poor. Think Selhurst is normally the best atmosphere in the league personally but felt flat last night from the off. Arsenal in the games under the lights were poor last year, ourselves/Newcastle/Everton being examples. Guess we will have to wait a bit longer to see if they have grown a set of balls in those situations.

Anyway, bollocks to talking about them anymore. All about us today. COYS.

Bollocks to talking about them after writing a fucking essay!

As Arsemania seem to think Saka is better than Kulu and their team is better than ours #deluded lol, it got me thinking, I actually can’t think of one of their players who would get into our XI genuinely....

+ we have much better depth
So max 2 of their players would get into our best XI and even those are debatable.

Interesting thought, but they don't play the same system as us. If you do the same operation with their formation you would end up with more of their players (still not many though). They seem to play a standard 433. We know our defenders are not so good in a 4. They have purchased for their system.

Jesus played for City for 5 years was always viewed as a bit part player. I don’t remember a single period in time when he was hyped. In fact we were told the whole of last season City had NO striker. The general opinion was he was ok. So that’s 5 years week in week out on our TV screens. Bangs a few in pre season and looks decent in flashes Vs Palace and suddenly he’s a world beater. Just find it very odd people just dismiss the 5 years of factual evidence we have seen.

Their fans were genuinely saying they wouldn’t have Kane over him after the palace gameb

I think a few are getting a little carried away with their praise for Arsenal. They played really well for half an hour then went off the boil. Palace missed two absolute sitters too.

Keep seeing people absolutely gushing over Jesus, like he’s going to elevate them. He was very effective in that first half an hour, but then he wasn’t really in the game besides doing a lot of pressing, which palace dealt with very well. He does improve them, but only by virtue of the fact they sold all their other strikers bar Enketia. Is he a good player? Sure. Would he get in the starting eleven of any of the other top four sides? Probably only Chelsea.

What they have done well is identify that Tierney can’t be relied on, and have brought in a utility player in Zinchenko that can fill in at a few positions. He looked suspect defensively though, and Palace definitely targeted him. Against better teams, that’s going to bear fruit.

Ben White at right back seems really odd, and just smacks of Arteta trying to copy daddy Pep. Saliba looks decent though, and I suspect White will be out of the side once Tomiyasu is fit again. He also looks far too much like Gary Glitter for my liking.

I suspect they are going to leave themselves short in midfield, Xhaka and Partey can’t be relied upon with booking and injuries. I don’t see Zinchenko being able to provide what they do in the middle.

They are a good side, they play some lovely stuff at times, but I feel like they still have too many players who either hide in the big moments, or do something catastrophic to let you down. They’ll rival us for the top four if we don’t push on and challenge for higher positions. They may even win a cup this year of some kind. But I think the pressure will be on them, they’ve spent hugely again this summer, and at some point they need to kick on and get CL. Arteta is into his fourth season now, and he can’t keep leaning on “trust the process.”
Great point regarding Jesus.

Two years ago they had Aubemeyang banging them in.

Arteta tried to change his game and it didn't work.

They let him go for nothing and were left with Nketiah.

So of course they will paint it as an upgrade when in reality it's a slight downgrade as Jesus will not hit Aubemeyang numbers.

They've improved their system, I would say. But then you have to ask, is Arteta's system really all that??

Zinchenko/Sailiba/Jesus do improve them but City don't sell 3 players to EPL teams if they felt they were a threat to them. I guess European clubs not having the funds necessitated selling to EPL clubs. But City being prepared to sell says it all.

Yup, but they have haaland who is clearly miles better than Jesus now, they’ve also signed alvarez who looks to have talent to be better than Jesus too. They do need a left back and are in for one. But it’s obvious city will level up this season.

If you were Saliba's advisors, you'd be telling him to focus on having a strong season, don't sign a contract cause next summer bigger clubs may want to come for you.

?. Why would you sign a new contract at his age, wait until next year and see if arsenal get champions league if they do maybe stay and sign a short term contract, if they don’t, get your pick of the teams to go to on massive wages.

Alvarez is the Sterling replacement I would have thought Don't know which left back they are looking for but they moved on those players to upgrade them.

I said this, Salibas season is an audition to move on to a bigger club

Who’s the third player Arsenal have signed from City? ?

I remember when City first got money they were constantly raiding Arsenal for their players and none of them were anywhere near as successful for City as they were are Arsenal!

Even yesterday all afternoon on Sky they were saying how City had no striker last season, but apparently Arsenal have signed a great striker so so weird.

On another note actually stumbled across this and thought it might quite interesting. Gave up after 20 minutes what a boring bloke amazing he managed to pull off the whole AFTV thing. Guess he must just be a lot more intelligent than he comes across.

I think he just got lucky that him setting up a fan channel coincided with Arsenal’s demise and it being hilarious to view for opposition fans. He’s done what anyone with 2 brain cells would do and squeezed what he can out of it
