You raise a good point. But we don't know the full circumstances or reasons.
The fact he agreed personal terms and travelled a few hundred miles for a medical suggests there's a part of him that could sell his soul to the devil.

I think if he wanted to go there he would have signed for them, the other choice is staying at Everton who clearly don't need him and his manager has already casted him aside. Unless he has a change of heart which I find unlikely and the fact that they've already signed a replacement in Drinkwater then everything just points to him not going there.

In fact everything points to him wanting to come to Spurs, I suspect he was told we would take him in January. In which case he knew he could bide his time getting fit at Everton while they pay his wages rather than us.

He may have been pushed towards cheatski by his current club and agreed to go along with it as we didn't make a late move for him.

Or he may have seen what a scummy club they are first hand while having his medical.

He's rumoured to be out till December anyway so not much of a risk, I suspect we will get him in January.

The risk for Barkley, if he's selfish is that Lamela claims a first team place or someone like Edwards has a run in the side. If that happened we might not be so keen in January. He's not really impressing anyone with his behaviour at the moment either. I think a deal in January is likely but it's not a certainty and if it doesn't happen he'll look pretty silly.
