The 23-year-old is in talks with Rovers over a new contract but admits he wants to play regular European football in order to gain England recognition
I'd say that rules us out.

Have some faith mate, we've just achieved it 3 years on the bounce and who says without a few key signings we won't be atleast top 6 next season?

3 years in a row. When was the last time we achieved that?

he said regular european football, he could've said he wants to play in the champions league. i'd say that rules us in.

I can't see United, Chelsea or Arsenal being interested.

Got a feeling about Liverpool, but say they're not, then he'd be looking at us & Everton as realistically, we're the only two teams likely to pull of consistent European qualification.

He has a bright future ahead of him, an old fashioned style winger with a great eye for a cross and good positional play, which makes up for his slight lack of pace. I'd love to see Bentley come to play for us but, as stated, he won't come cheap.

If we don't end up losing Lennon (which i think we would be mad to do) then it'll just provide great competition and some incentive to progress his game and, in my opinion, maybe free him up to play in behind the front two?

yes three years in a row is excellent we've won the cup which is great but we may finish 11th or 12th this season which is terrible.
Next year will be very hard. Everton, Villa, Portsmouth, Blackburn, Man city are all on our level plus Newcastle and west ham I'd expect to improve. We will be up there competing but we can't guarantee European qualification to Bentley or any other player.

none of those teams can guarantee it though. He'll just have to look at who's the most likely. I'd say he's only really likely to move to the top 4 or us, from his point of view & I really don't think the top 4 will be bothered.

plus we're in north london and he's a north london boy.

that's why we should make are buys from Europe.

Yes, he's very good but £15 million is pathetic.....it would probably cost even more.

European clubs will ramp up their prices when selling to the EPL, though—and we're perceived to be rolling in it.

English clubs ramp up prices when selling to English clubs though too, dude

I think that we've just got to accept that at the moment clubs are, for whatever reason, pushing the prices of players in the EPL through the roof now, even mediocre players are fetching upwards of £5m - compare that to £2m for a player like Gazza (a record at the time, wasn't it?) and it seems disproportionate but i think we both have that "oldman" mentality where we still suck air through our teeth when beans go up

Bentley is easily worth, in my opinion, £7m of any clubs money - figure into it my old man exchange rate, that probably does equate to about £15m, once the lawyers have detailed all the kit that will have to be scrapped with his name on it, the brochures with him in, the heartbreak for the kids, etc.

It's also worth paying that bit over the odds for a player you know works well in the EPL and won't take half a season or more to adjust.

add to that the fact that if we dont buy him, he will go to one of our immediate rivals and probably score and create a tonne of goals against us in the seasons to come.
