I heard Ndombele described today as the "worst good player we've ever had". And it made me think, who are the worst players we've had that, as far as technical attributes go, should have been some of our best players? And likewise, who are the players we've had that you probably knew someone growing up that was a better footballer than them yet somehow they managed to form a career as an effective Premier League player?

I'll start:

Worst good player - Andros Townsend - this guy was fast, completely two footed, had quick feet and a powerful, drilled shot that he could take from either side, yet delivered absolutely no end product at all.

Best crap player - Darren Bent - I have no idea how this man made it as a footballer, he was so poor with the ball. Yes he had a little bit of pace on him but he was hardly Lennon/Bale fast, and as for the finishing I just remember incidents like the NLD miss and that "my wife could have scored that" header against Portsmouth as opposed to any real techical brilliance. Somehow though this guy managed to become our record signing, finish a season as our top scorer, and hit over 20 league goals for Sunderland in a single season after joining them.

Adebayor is arguably the worst good player on every club he played for.

Adebayor, the guy had all the ability in the world but constantly underperformed everywhere.

Moussa Sissoko, genuinely one of the worst footballers I've ever seen. But has got over 70 caps for France and was an integral part of our midfield in our champions league run.

Stephane Dalmat. I remember one game for us he was really sublime and you thought we had a super talent with us.

The rest of the time he was with us, he was poor.

Crap attitude

Mido too. As a centre forward he had the lot but was too lazy to put it in every game . He was incredible on his debut then coasted the rest of the time.

There's quite a few to chose from in the "worst Good Player" category. Anyone else remember Alan Brazil? Great striker for Ipswich but just didn't fire for us. Also Ralph Coates. Lovely person but wasn't able to replicate his from with Burnley and England when he joined us. Shame as he really was a lovely person.

Best Good Worst person.. John Pratt. Never received the credit I think he was due.

Best crap player, even though he was only here a season, Dempsey. Guy had no talent whatsoever but worked hard and gave us a good goal return considering he was a support act who didn’t start regularly.

Worst good player, Mido for me. Had everything to be the new Martin Chivers but just couldn’t stay in acceptance shape so stunk out the place all too often.

Bit controversial, but best worst player...Niko Kranjčar.

Very skillful player, but if I remember correctly Harry used to play him out wide, where Niko was hampered by his lack of pace.

I think if he had have been a main-stay at number 10 with a 'free-role' he'd have been remembered as one of the best players during that period. But instead, we got a technically gifted 'winger' who couldn't beat his man because he had all the speed of a Soviet-era Skoda. Of course it didn't help that VDV was playing number 10 for at least one of those season in this era.

Worst best players...we've had a few of those. Sean Davies, Michael Brown, Pedro Mendes, Sissoko, possibly even Wilson Palacios were all fairly limited players, but definitely brought something to the table, namely workrate and steel. I think someone like Kevin Wimmer might be in there as well, because he had a run in the team during the 15/16 season and was pretty decent. His form then dropped and he left for Stoke and faded into obscurity because of a lack of natural talent.

If Niko had Sissoko's athleticism he would have been amazing
