Brentford have been superb but we've done OK and are competing. I was gonna say they've been a bit lucky but that one at the end was a massive chance.

It's progress though. If this had been the Conte/Stellini/Mason side of last season we'd have probably gone in 4-0 down as this Brentford side look very sharp.

Ok first half, we started well but after Romero had to go off, we seemed to drop off a bit. Passing has been fine, but lack of movement from wide/forward players, but they are sitting deep so that will be causing the issue.

Solomon I would like to see on, add a bit more direct play in and to go past his man to create the space.

That was exactly what we should have expected from a half where: we have a new manager, new system, multiple debuts, lose our main CB early. Plenty to work on but plenty of positives.
We’ve played without much contribution from our front three and Skipp really. So plenty of room to improve.

Need to ditch the high line for the second half. Until the back 4 become comfortable with each other it’s suicidal. If it persists in the second half we just need to hope our front 3 wake up and we outscore Brentford
He won't, its not his style. The players need to learn it in real time.

Maddison credited with the second assist, do we thing that'll be taken off him? I thought the defender got his boot to it.

Wow the intensity and speed. You can see why Dier won’t fit this system, finally can catch my breath.

Don’t seem to be moving there ball quick enough for me
Skipp had repellent 🧲 on his boots today, some dodgy touches, big dav the same.

Id like to see Lo Celso on for skipp and Solomon on for Kulu mabye also put son up top and richy off and Perisic on at LW those changes throughout the 2nd half where needed.

Players look a bit nervous and the shape isnt completely right so far. Also massively missing a proper CF here as Richarlison just not doing anything atm.

We need to attack quicker as they keep regaining their shape before we can create anything.

Well I’m just happy we’re scoring from open play again.
Obviously there’s much room for improvement across the whole team and what I mean by that is, the players gelling and implementing Ange’s tactics. This will take time and we need be patient.

Lucky to go into the break even if we're honest. Brentford have been better in every department.

But some promising patterns of play, a few decent performances by new faces. Fully expecting a better performance in second half.
I must be watching a different game. They're counter attacking the high line with long pumps up the pitch

We’ve scored 2 away and the goals conceded were a soft pen and an unlucky deflection. Reading the comments on here you’d think it was Newcastle away again

Yes. Another starting calibre CB needed.
It's not entirely the CBs fault though. They are making the same play over and over again. The back pass needs to be defended by the midfielders that are not returning quickly enough.

One of Bissouma and Skipp needs to be more defensive.

Not sure there is enough energy or pace in midfield tbh. I don't like half time subs because I prefer to see how players react to a half time rollicking but I think I'd like to see Sarr for Skipp here.

Exciting game, Royal is getting skinned by Henry repeatedly though, need to do something about that side of the pitch.

Not sure Skipp is adding much at the moment. Be interesting to get Lo Celso on the pitch.

Richy is a bit of a worry, need a forward to compete with him.

1st half nerves hopefully get blown away by Ange at HT. Dreadful referee, lost our best defender, front 3 not been in the game at all yet it’s 2-2 vs a robust shithouse team allowed to get away with anything

Skipp off for Gio to add some craft to the midfield

That was pretty intense. Pitch seems really sticky which isn't helping, but feel we need to move the ball a bit quicker.

Great strike from Emerson though, and what a ball in from Maddison for the first! Tough game, as we knew it would be.
