Van de Ven has been the most composed of a defender I've seen play for us since Toby and Jan prime days. He's brilliant.

I love that we want the ball and want to play on the front foot. We’re so susceptible to that diagonal ball over the top though. One ball and we’re absolutely fucked.

On another note, the ref is absolutely shite and it took less than half an hour of the season for VAR to ruin a game. Whether it’s for you or against you, I absolutely hate it

Poor defending from Royal for their 2nd goal but I suppose he made up for it with a good goal from him.
Postecoglou’s system is not working the way it should because Son and Kulusevski offer nothing out wide. It took to the 43 minute for Son to take on the FB and get a cross in and Kulusevski keeps cutting inside. Need Perisic on but he plays where Son is and making him captain means he’ll start every game and play majority of minutes.

So true mate son and Kulu not doing enough in this system.

Suppose this is an issue with Sonny as captain, will we take him off when he’s not playing that well.

Would also be a sweet story if Sonny scored the winner here.

Emerson without the goal is having a shocker. New guys Udogie and VDV doing well. Son and Kulu really need to do much more, feel a bit for Kulu as both Skipp and Emerson pass to him and then take away the outside option. Sanchez has done well.

Lucky to go into the break even if we're honest. Brentford have been better in every department.

But some promising patterns of play, a few decent performances by new faces. Fully expecting a better performance in second half.

Playing well. A big problem this half and think it's the only significant problem is son and Kulusevski don't have that acceleration quick feet to beat a player

Love Sonny, but he is not an Ange type winger IMO. His strength really is to play on the counter, and run in behind the defence. Not so sure he will work very well in a possesion-based team.
