I guess a lot of fans and experts are judging teams with Man City being determinant. They just look how far are you from being City and on that perspective tell how good you are without really looking at table at results. The thing is that in most games we knew how to score and how not to concede and are our opponents did not. I'm fine with that :)

we are a functional hard working side who are difficult to beat, who with the players we have forward line apart we are not going to suddenly start playing scintillating football - not sure that sits that easily with me and at times I think its frustrating to watch - yesterday was pretty much a case in point we strangled the game they didn't have much in the way of chances but its not an easy watch far to defensive for my liking -

its always going to polarise views when you win playing like that its fine, but as we have seen over the last couple of weeks when you lose or results don't go your way its easy to criticise - but that's the same for any style of football as fans we all want a kind a utopia maybe Conte's pragmatism is the right way but as you say when you watch City there has to be a part of all fans to want their teams to play that way and as someone who grew up on the Spurs teams of Hoddle Ardilles et al I see that as the Spurs way

Son's touch has never been world class, it's always been his weak point but it does seem to have taken an even further step back this season which you can almost entirely associate with confidence as he isn't relaxed enough to cushion the ball or make timely decisions. Bit of an odd one as really not sure what would have caused it but fingers crossed he gets out of that rut soon as it's the difference between a tight 1-0 and a comfortable 2/3-0

Actually not sure the 3-5-2 worked that well beyond the first 30 minutes. We lacked the energy required from RWB, Central midfield and the front 2 to make it work from that point in the match.

I preferred the Spurs that played vs Frankfurt. We looked tired today, one of those games with the week they've had when you just have to get the job done in any way possible.

There will be better days and performances ahead.
I feel the same.

One of the downsides to playing 3 in midfield and 2wbs is that it can mean there are less runners, if for say, the ball is played into kane.

Once Brighton adjusted to our 3 in midfield, we found it much harder to get numbers forward and struggled to find the WBs especially.

The 3rd midfielder needs to be able to make deep runs quickly.

It also meant we started to have problems playing further out and were easier to press.

I believe had Kulusevski been available yesterday then we would have made those transitions much better

I thought we were very strong in the first half, particularly the first thirty minutes, with the three.

Crucial in tough away games as well.

Never really gave the crowd a chance to be the 12th man.

What did you think to the performances in the run in last season?

Cause I rememeber a team who had a very good balance to it and when we got going, we were devastating in attack and looked like scoring every time we went forward.

That beats having 65% possession and failing to break teams down

we only failed to score more than 1 goal in all our wins once last season in the final run in, mainly big wins, 3-0 arsenal, the world forget that anomaly ?, also won 1-0 vs burnley which was our worst winning margin but ultimately gave us the pts for 4th.

As my leics mate says, when spurs stop playing at 80% and kick on, it will be great to watch. but a win against brighton and 3rd place is the best we can get after this week.

I think a lot of this is down to how we set up the 3, and the attributes they bring to the squad.

In this case, the 3d CM was Bissouma, who sat deepest of the 3. That gave Hojbjerg and Bentancur license to play higher up, but neither will be confused with attacking CMs.

Maybe, if Kulusevski were fit, he could replace Bentancur. But, in reality, that is not much different than how he plays in our typical 343. He is the link, and the primary creative player in the attacking end. The role would be identical and the positioning is only marginally different.

Exactly. City are looking great and are winning. If they would not people would question them that they keep playing nice but have nothing from it. In later Poch era we had a lot of ball but weren't dangerous at all and we were so so boring to watch. So the results still actually matter.

end of last season we had some momentum and it was good to watch on the whole - this season not so much its largely been a hard watch when we have dug out results - I guess the question for Conte and anyone else for that matter is why we haven't hit those levels this season -

im really not having a dig sometimes you get results how you can but I prefer a bit more style and control on the ball but I accept that's not something Conte's sides will bring frustrating as it may be
