We are missing the middle of our team. Romero, VDV, Bissouma, Bentencure and Maddison. All players we would say are important to how we play.

Take some out replacements might cope with playing along side some of them. But take them all out and we are a bit fucked.

Yes Vicario played amazingly, and Udogie did well, Sarr normally does well, but these are new and young players also.

That team last night was closer to a conte/Jose team than normal, but even with the individual mistakes and inability to get the ball out of their feet for 70 minutes of the game, it was still better than the last few seasons!

This season is a free hit for Ange, as long as the football gets better (can't really argue currently with so many first team players out plus Deki playing in a different position). Need to address some of our issues this window and hopefully finish it off in the summer, and then next season is where we judge it all IMO.

So.. just so I'm clear.. what was the difference between the Dunk challenge on Kulu last night and the Romero vs Enzo against Chelsea?

Have to be honest and say that it was more like Romero’s challenge on Callum Wilson.
Which was only a yellow card. Correct decision in my opinion. But other people ie most pundits said that tackle should have been a red so there should be the same uproar for Dunk’s tackle.

Nothing at all. If one was a red, they were both reds.

It has at last become safe to point out Johnson's shortcomings without being buried under a ton of 'ffs sake he's only played a couple games' comments. Before he arrived I thought that his YT best skills vid was less than inspiring and little since has changed my mind. Yes he's super fast, but he doesn't do one on ones.
Also people are now spotting that he pulls out of challenges in a way that makes Sonny look like Graham Roberts. 47 mill, really ? Squad player.

Ange has been honest about the forward line tbf and said we need improving in the front third. My mantra has been that we have a superb 1st team from Vic through to AM..but after that we need to find alternatives.A caveat to this is that Biss has hit a rough spot. Sarr will be the one to give way to Bents and be on the bench imo. Sarr's form has dropped lately.

Kulu penalty was particularly annoying. What it proved was the No One from our much admired management team said to him, after he did exactly the same a game before , 'Cut this shit out, you don't defend corners by pulling player's shirts off or we concede pens'. Now that is truly crap management imo. Oh sure Kulu has learnt this lesson NOW and won't repeat, but where was guidance for him on this before his stupidity ?
I also felt that a restraining comment was not made by captain or management when Romero was boiling over vs Chelsea, leading to his disastrous dismissal and the series of defeats leading directly from it.
Being hands off and treating the players as adults and finding their own way has limitations as a management policy imo. Ange often says when asked about discipline...'do you speak to the red carded player'. 'Nah ' he usually goes, 'The player will know how much damage he has done so no need'
You need a word with players sometimes imo.

So Sonny says Brighton was a 'Wake up call' . Why do we need wakeup calls, are the players not motivated enough anyway ? The tail end of the match was bizarre as our players snapped out of their strange trance and played nearer their potential...Brighton 4 up did slack off off, but that last period has given consolation and a glimmer of hope. Udogie too was a small bright spot and we're all delighted for Veliz I'm sure.

Overall though its a gloomy outlook til Feb tbh.

Richarlison was probably, marginally, the best of the front 4. Didn’t have his shooting boots on and drifted off side too much but he was the only one troubling their defense. Should have taken off Son who was gash all game.
I don't disagree Son and Johnson were below par too but I still think that was the point where we began to change. I don't think that he drifted offside I think he ran offside while looking at the defender that would have kept him onside, he was only yards away from him.

It was the same referee we had against Nottingham Forest and he refereed it in exactly the same way, obviously not the reason for the loss, but a common theme seems to be developing when he is refereeing our games, constantly allowing challenges to go unpunished, while giving easy fouls and bookings against our players. He also sent of Yves Bissouma and rightly so. But Dunks challenge on Dejan Kulusevski was worst in my opinion as he got the full impact of Dunks studs just below the knee and raked down his leg. The referees are taking the piss now with regards to protecting our players. Our fans need to start kicking up a fuss.

I was less than enamoured with the Johnson signing, especially when we could have got Cole Palmer for 7m less if we desperately needed a HG winger.

However, you have to give all signings at least a year to bed in and adapt.

If he's playing at the same level this time next year, then we have overpaid for a depth signing.

Sadly we may be seeing what ends up costing Ange his job today.

No doubt this is due to some atrocious players left over from previous Managers but this type of shambolic defensive display has happened before under this Manager.

I hope i’m wrong
Blimey. A defence consisting of four fullbacks, two of whom aren’t even first choice in their own positions, struggling to defend against a mobile and fluid attacking team pressing aggressively and it’s the end of the world as we know it? And without three of of our first choice midfielders in front of them? Let’s all jump off the Skywalk.

Brennan Johnson is one of the best young players in this country and he’s a Spurs player. That’s the post, nothing else to say.

Make no mistake, we were terrible last night. we only started playing because Brighton declared at 4-0. poor all round from the manager and players.

I'm not sure I'd say one of the best young players.

Very lightweight, looks scared to tackle and whilst I was expecting lightening pace doesn't seem to use it that much.

Not overly impressed so far truth be told

I'd struggle to place him in the top 25 young players in this league.

Lewis
Gvardiol
Doku
Udogie

That may be because you don’t watch much football. He’s been one of the best British youngsters since he was 16 and an obvious talent.
